I just now realized when you had the pie that the Japanese mascot "Nyango Star" is like a triple-entendre on ringo being the word for apple, the name Ringo Starr being a famous drummer, and the fact that the mascot is the spirit of a cat that has possessed an apple to become an awesome drummer.... It's about as crazy as if some American cat-food guitarist mascot was named something like "Jimmy Meowmix"
Hey, Eric, motovlogger here, for future reference, if you want exterior sound while recording from your helmet, have one recorder going to a mic in the dome, put another audio recorder into the exterior of your sidebag / saddlebag, it's perfect for exterior sound, engine noise, and not much wind. Also, if you hate the lav cable, use some double sided gorilla tape or heavy duty velcro tape to stick one recorder to the rear of your helmet instead of your wrist, it'll keep that whole kit contained to your helmet without the cable in your way. You can do the same with a small battery pack(s), in case you need to wire up the recorder for power (it's also what those of us with helmet, rather than arm-mounted, cameras use to power our action cams).
@@kydeanderic love you, bud, glad to finally have some time to catch up. I hope you had fun. Also, you'll hate hearing this, but camping tip.... Bring a couple packs of Dude Wipes (or equivalent), wear anti-microbial t-shirts and skivvies which will help resist any stink build, then get decent at either wiping down while rolling around in your tent, available restrooms, or a dense bush. What you did, finding actual showers, is far preferable, but yeah, camping generally carries some level of funk with it, if you're really in the back country.
Poor Eric, slowly waking up to the fact that many people are just gross and don't mind going days without showering. Legend has it he's still wandering the country, looking for a towel. ;) There are microfiber towels that dry super fast and roll up small. They come with a mesh pouch that you can lash onto a backpack or whatever. The towel itself has a loop with a snap, so you can hang it from a branch or something to dry. Hey, maybe you burned yourself with alcohol or whatever was in those wipes, but at least you're clean! LOL! I totally feel for you. I'd be losing my mind. Thanks for the behind-the-scenes. And thanks for all you and Kyde do! We love your videos and we love you guys.
We have quick dry towels, but when you take a shower somewhere and need to ride a motorbike 5 minutes after drying off there isn't a lot of opportunity for drying even the quickest towel.
Whoo-hoo vegetables in our lives. Cleanliness is next to … kindliness. Oh man, I’m staying away from those Gatsby wipes, who knew? I once picked up some toothpaste, or that’s what I thought it was. It tasted like menthol and my teeth hurt for a week. Cool video. Thank you.
5 of my 6 fav things all in one video! OMG motorbikes, hokkaido, lakes, kyde and eric, not necessarily in that order and def not willing to disclose my other top 6 item :P
The tomato dilemma returns! It wasn´t that long ago that you just wanted one tomato but couldn´t, seems to be a constant problem :D Gotta take care of them nards Eric :) Why is that guy running around in his red underwears during the Matsuri? Is he the special underwear boss? What am i missing here, what do we don´t know anout this? :D Well here they have sort of more or less banned fireworks, the west is turning into a drag at every turn, all our freedoms and fun taken away, but in Japan all seems fine, fireworks and festivities big and small, i need a good Matsuri :) Well one of the older people at the Matsuri was wearing a Kitaro costume, he get´s bonus points for that since i am a big Shigeru Mizuki fan. Never give up the adventure Eric, keep on going as long as you can!
Do they sell the red bikini with golden tassle in a gift shop? 🤣 If so, I'd be willing to pay top dollar to get eric in one for a little dance with Kyde ... I'd also be willing to buy her a bumblebee outfit to wear to make the whole thing work! haha keep going strong guys!
ghost train stations, stations like at the beginning of the video, that are old and not as frequently used could make for a cool video or series! Maybe some history on the local towns, idk. But loved this video!
We've been watching a couple of other channels that are going around Hokkaido (Oshare Japan in a camper van, and Ori and Kaito on motorbikes) and they have found community centers to be free resources with gyms and showers. Ori and Kaito featured Nanae Choritsu Minamihokkaidoonumafujinkaikan Ringyokenshu Center which was just 8 minutes from your campsite. Biker houses are prolific in Hokkaido, too, and like $10 per night. It is still cool how you are doing it--I just wanted to point to other options.
Community centers are an interesting idea. I asked at the tourist center across the street from the one you listed if there are showers anywhere in the area and they said no, so I wonder if that center has showers or not. I do end up staying in "rider houses" on this trip a bit. They are a mixed bag, sometimes it's pretty terrible lol, sometimes it's fine. -E
Fun video! Thank you. Re bathing. Try out at home first, use wet face cloth or baby wipes, the key is to use rubbing alcohol poured onto baby wipes or face cloth. May have to rinse and repeat. Hope that helps. Gotta kill the stink causing bacteria, that’s the key.
Yea, they sell wipes here that i was using that essentially do that, but when you are out on a motorbike in 35c weather all day no number of wipes does the job hahaha
@@kydeandericHere in the USA you can get pop up shower tents and solar shower bags. But that will just add more stuff to carry on your motorcycle. I think a gym membership is good to have for the showers. Also, wondering where long haul truckers shower there. Because lots of travelers here use the showers at truck stops here. They are not expensive I think around $5.00. Good luck with finding a solution to staying clean and refreshed.
@@sueg2658 gym memberships won't help much out away from cities, but even if they did gyms are weird about people with tattoos so.... i wonder about truckers too, but I think the real answer is Japan isn't very big so "long haul" rides really aren't that far. They might just use sento and onsen, maybe there are sento near trucking logistical centers or something, no idea. -E
Sena makes really good mics for what you need and can pair between helmets so you can have coms with Kyde, have your own individual muci playing without mic picking it up. some also have their own cameras.
we have sena systems in our helmets for coms, but capturing audio into a livestreaming or recording situation from that mic is not possible without physically hacking the expensive mic, which is worrying to do it I cause damage experimenting. If there is a way about it I am missing I'd love to be corrected. Essentially I need the mic to output over a 3.5inch headphone cable to capture it for video productions. -E
The spirit of camping is adventure and survival, if you want to be squeaky clean every day then maybe camping is not for you. Also when you hitchhiked across hokkaido i dont remember you being so worried about nard freshness . ;)
There is definitely some body wipes that a good and large. I have used them for a month at a time in Alaska. It take 3 most of the time but definitely doable. Surviveware Biodegradable Wet Wipe are the ones I like
You can buy an inflatable pillow that basically weights nothing and takes almost no space. Not sure how comfortable it is but it's better than nothing :D

I was watching another channel from a South African white guy (serpentza) who lived in China for fourteen years. When he went into several videos talking about the people the culture of not getting involved and so on. It immediately reminded me on the one China video where they were called a bunch of ten year olds. Man the place is wack.
