Arms folded throughout, only one or two instances of emotions while watching but did feel open to saying that she felt good about the song and singer. Middle. Disturbed is a very heavy metal band that’s been around for a while now. We took our 16yr. Old Daughter to see them live in Memphis. My husband has always been a die hard country music fan but we were right in front. We were all blown away! It was so powerful, we are all tremendous fans! They are also very spiritual and that’s a big plus to me.♥️
David Dramian was trained to be a Cantor when he was a child. He has an incredible vocal range as demonstrated by this song. Very intelligent and well read person. This Conan video and the original video release have been viewed over a billion times. After this performance, Paul Simon messaged him and told him he approved of this version.
As someone who has lived with a debilitating stammer for many years, this song cuts so deep to people who struggle to communicate like myself. One of the most beautiful songs of all time. Love disturbed version! 🙌❤

Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Though some other bands are a lot more popular. They decided to record this song and thought it would be cool to do it with an orchestra accompaniment. That was in 2015. It was originally written by Simon and Garfunkel in 1965. When interviewed about the song, they explained that the song is about people’s inability to communicate with each other in a meaningful way. Paul Simon would go into his bathroom to write his music because he likes the acoustics in there and would turn off the lights so he could focus. That was part of the inspiration for the opening line of the song “hello darkness, my old friend…” Always enjoy your videos. Greetings from Indiana
The band was there. The man on the large drums behind him was the band's drummer, the piano player was the lead guitarist, the other guitarist was playing guitar. Then they had the orchestra surrounding them of course.
When you know the story behind the lyrics that Simone and Garfunkel wrote this version becomes even more chilling considering the times I which we live.
@@msdarby515“Hello darkness, my old friend…” Everybody knows the iconic Simon & Garfunkel song, but do you know the amazing story behind the first line of The Sounds of Silence? It began 62 years ago, when Arthur “Art” Garfunkel, a Jewish kid from Queens, enrolled in Columbia University. During freshman orientation, Art met a student from Buffalo named Sandy Greenberg, and they immediately bonded over their shared passion for literature and music. Art and Sandy became roommates and best friends. With the idealism of youth, they promised to be there for each other no matter what. Soon after starting college, Sandy was struck by tragedy. His vision became blurry and although doctors diagnosed it as temporary conjunctivitis, the problem grew worse. Finally after seeing a specialist, Sandy received the devastating news that severe glaucoma was destroying his optic nerves. The young man with such a bright future would soon be completely blind. Sandy was devastated and fell into a deep depression. He gave up his dream of becoming a lawyer and moved back to Buffalo, where he worried about being a burden to his financially-struggling family. Consumed with shame and fear, Sandy cut off contact with his old friends, refusing to answer letters or return phone calls. Then suddenly, to Sandy’s shock, his buddy Art showed up at the front door. He was not going to allow his best friend to give up on life, so he bought a ticket and flew up to Buffalo unannounced. Art convinced Sandy to give college another go, and promised that he would be right by his side to make sure he didn’t fall - literally or figuratively. Art kept his promise, faithfully escorting Sandy around campus and effectively serving as his eyes. It was important to Art that even though Sandy had been plunged into a world of darkness, he should never feel alone. Art actually started calling himself “Darkness” to demonstrate his empathy with his friend. He’d say things like, “Darkness is going to read to you now.” Art organized his life around helping Sandy. One day, Art was guiding Sandy through crowded Grand Central Station when he suddenly said he had to go and left his friend alone and petrified. Sandy stumbled, bumped into people, and fell, cutting a gash in his shin. After a couple of hellish hours, Sandy finally got on the right subway train. After exiting the station at 116th street, Sandy bumped into someone who quickly apologized - and Sandy immediately recognized Art’s voice! Turned out his trusty friend had followed him the whole way home, making sure he was safe and giving him the priceless gift of independence. Sandy later said, “That moment was the spark that caused me to live a completely different life, without fear, without doubt. For that I am tremendously grateful to my friend.” Sandy graduated from Columbia and then earned graduate degrees at Harvard and Oxford. He married his high school sweetheart and became an extremely successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. While at Oxford, Sandy got a call from Art. This time Art was the one who needed help. He’d formed a folk rock duo with his high school pal Paul Simon, and they desperately needed $400 to record their first album. Sandy and his wife Sue had literally $404 in their bank account, but without hesitation Sandy gave his old friend what he needed. Art and Paul's first album was not a success, but one of the songs, The Sounds of Silence, became a #1 hit a year later. The opening line echoed the way Sandy always greeted Art. Simon & Garfunkel went on to become one of the most beloved musical acts in history. The two Columbia graduates, each of whom has added so much to the world in his own way, are still best friends. Art Garfunkel said that when he became friends with Sandy, “my real life emerged. I became a better guy in my own eyes, and began to see who I was - somebody who gives to a friend.” Sandy describes himself as “the luckiest man in the world.” Adapted from Sandy Greenberg’s memoir: “Hello Darkness, My Old Friend: How Daring Dreams and Unyielding Friendship Turned One Man’s Blindness into an Extraordinary Vision for Life."

Dude packs a whole day's worth of events into one song with that vocal range. Wake up, little stretch, move around a bit, get some work done, get a little crazy at night, come home, lay your head down on the pillow and go back to sleep.
Simon and Garfunkle did folk-type music. Some of their songs were very lightly rock-ish, like Bridge Over Troubled Water, sorta, but Scarborough Fair is pure folk, frex. Disturbed is a *very* heavy rock band -- check out Down With the Sickness for something that's more their usual thing -- and their harder, rougher, and by the end angrier version of Sound of Silence is completely awesome. I understand the you have to be truly an exceptional vocalist to constantly perform and not need autotune, but nowadays, I don't have much of a problen with it if they are just doing an appearance on a late night talk show. David Draiman...amazing range and control...a powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do . He is so unique as he actually puts vibrato on his distortion!....also VERY difficult to do...one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Loved your reaction.
I must say that I am very impressed with your family. Mom you are a great mom. Your kids respect you, listen to you and love you and each other. It is so important to have a nuclear family with a mom and dad. Plus you all lived in different countries than your home country, so that makes the family closer and very open to different cultures. I was raised in a military family and we traveled overseas. Great video reaction! ❤️👍
Given that the original is a classic I always felt bad that I disliked the original..can’t get enough of this version because of the power in his vocals💜
Some people are just crap at reacting yet still insist on making reaction videos. They only get views because people come here to listen to amazing songs.
I saw them in concert for the first time in 2002 not long after their debut album, it's a train I never intend to get off of. The original singers have come out and said it's Disturbed song now.
Love disturbed, David Draeman writes all their music and no matter how heavy it is the messages in the songs are brilliant. Simon and Garfunkel are legends, one track they made is called silent night/7 oclock news well worth a listen
He had a really heavy cold when he sang this live! Such is the quality of his voice. He was a cantor in his synagogue which is what he’s so controlled.
Simon and Garfunkle sang this as a warning of things to come, this is talking about the reality and results of our inattention to that warning. He trained as a cantor, so he has so much mastery over that wonderful voice.
Down with the sickness in the year 2000 put Disturbed on the map, great song. Been around a long time, 2006 they were up for billboards rock artist of the year but didnt win. Did win it in 2017 at iHeart Radio awards though. Nominated for 2 grammys also.
This song was my fav in the 60's by Simon ? Garf. They did it in the style of that time and this band has beautiully brought it to today. What a treat to still hear talent
Another amazing cover of an amazing song is "Hurt". Covered by Johnny Cash towards the end of his life and the video is also very moving. The song was written by Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. Also I understand Disturbed's lead singer had a stinking cold when he recorded this performance.
I love both versions. They are different experiences, but both great. Reminds me of Johnny Cash's rendition of Nine Inch Nail's Hurt. Or Whitney Houston crushing her remake of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You.
I consider those songs to be respected tributes to the other artists. I dislike how many people talk about which one is 'better', because it's not about competition. It's about showing respect to the artist and expanding their voice because they stand behind the message.
Disturbed is so versatile its just amazing! Now that you have heard this listen to Down with the sickness and then Hold on the memories. David's voice is powerful and on point at both ends of the spectrum!
I love Disturbed down with the sickness would be a good one to do too or a Godsmack "scars" react. the sully erna vs shannon larkins drum battle would be cool too. ~Cheers
Disturbed made a song called “into the fire” and it’s such a an amazing and deep song. The music video is so moving, I can’t help but tear up everytime.
He had really bad flu when he sang this which made it even more incredible, and you can hear two bits of auto tune. David went mental when he got backstage because it was used without his consent
This same line keeps getting repeated in every reaction video comment section. I have yet to find and interview or direct quote from David or the band that validates any of this. Do you know of any? Genuinely interested in finding it.
@@jamiemacdonald436 he doesn't look like he has terrible flu at all he would have crapped his pants and you'd see it on his face. There's nothing odd in his singing, like smelly cat. His voice is processed at least with echo and reverb but why a show would add auto tune seems like nonsense to me given all of the garbage that's aired over the decades
@@jamiemacdonald436 I was once abused for making the comment about his eyes looking as if he was feverish. The reply was that he was stoned. The explanation they gave was that this style of singing was unusual for him (true, he’s said in interviews that he was unsure about returning to this style of singing after many years of heavy rock/metal), and he was nervous about performing that style live, his voice exposed, nowhere to hide a mistake in front of millions of people (again something he has said.) He uses marijuana (he has said he doesn’t attempt to create without it). So that is a possibility and the other a myth that's grown up. Or an illness could be the truth.
As you can see he has been musician for quite long time, I have long list of similar bands that are under the same type of genre of music which despite their band name, they can be found under categories of rock and/or christian rock.
Dealing with a hard flu and fever while doing this connan performance I strongly suggest you click onto the official video and view the video while seeing the close ups of his faces expressions while bringing his power to the surface ...you won't be ready folks
this song was written about a very hard time on american history and how disconnected people had become. Disturbed decided to cover it because how the song it resonates today because how i disconnected humans have become because of cel phones.
This song always makes me tear up because it reminds me of my father's singing voice and it's almost like I can hear him. It's even a song he would sing.
He's covering Simon & Garfunkel's original, which I grew up on in the 70s. David Draiman, although a heavy metal singer, has a background as a trained opera singer, thus his gifted vocals.
Hey this is the third time I've heard reviews by this family. How do I remove myself from this list? How do they qualify to even critique or comment on music? It turned my brain into an ice cube and damn it now it's slowly melting... Crap!
So funny because my mother introduced me to this song but I've been a big fan of Disturbed and they're hard rock versions of music but my mother called me and said you had to hear this... One of my favorite songs absolutely without a doubt. I love how the mom is introducing the kids to disturb❤❤❤
David Draiman was trained to be a cantor coming from a long line of cantors. He wasn't feeling well when he sang this on Conan's show. Paul Simon said that this is his favourite cover of his iconic song that he wrote when he was 21. Paul said that his version was a warning to us what would happen. David's version is what has happened as we didn't heed the original warnings.
Ordinarily id say he has a voice like Rocket fuel.. but this song he went super soft for most of it. David Draiman (the singer) admitted he didn't even know if he was able to sing this, as its not what his voice can usually handle. it took him quite a while to be able to train his voice to be able to sing as soft as this, then suddenly take it up with the "Vocal fry" (when you make it go all growly like that)
Simon (Paul) and Garfunkel did a very soft version in the 60's.. Disturbed made it different without changing the integrity. Disturbed is a hard metal band. They aren't my favorite but the band is really a very talented band that's been around for quite a while. David Dramain, I think that how you spell his name is classic vocalist with so many choices of what he wants to sound like in every second
David Draiman, the lead singer of Disturbed, said in an interview that he wanted to cover this song to give his family members a piece of music they could listen to. Apparently the classically trained vocalist's family isn't too keen on heavy rock.
This performance had Disturbed plus 15 other musicians to make the orchestra. This has been viewed over 100 million times. I suggest you watch the studio version which has an excellent video but is not as large of an orchestra. You might be interested in their "Hold on to Memories".
Listen to Down With The Sickness. Another one of their immense hits that will give you more insight into the depth and artistry that this band possesses, and how David is able to effortlessly send chills down your spine with his vocals. 😁
im late on the ball, but damn i love this mother. David is a fucking genius and she appreciate it like everyone should. She sits there smiling for like 4 minutes knowing what will come
He sounds amazing live. 90% of musicians have to have so much auto-tune. Then when you see them live they're so bad they don't even sound the same. He's one of the few artists that sounds just as good live.
DISTURBED is a Heavy Metal Band, but they do AWESOME Covers, of great song. Just like this song. "Down with the Sickness" is a popular song by them, and that, is their "Norm". Great Post.
This is very affecting, and I can understand Paul Simon giving his approval of this version. I'm a 60s kid so I can't agree this is better than the original, but it is very good.
This is what I imagine when I heard Sophie and Aidan didn't know who Disturbed was but Gaynor did. Sophie sitting in a chair with classical music playing while she reads a book, cup of tea or coffee nearby and a cat sitting on the top of the chair or her lap. Aidan walking down the sidewalk with earbuds in with his hood up probably listening to rap while people avoid him cause he looks like trouble. Daz listening to popular pop and rap songs from the radio in his car while shouting out a few choice words to bicyclists. Then there's Gaynor, rocking out to rock music, bangin her head. What a world.
He is heavy metal! He takes those piercings out when he goes “home” no tats either! What you 👁👁may shock you his talent is off the chain! There is no other remake of a song to this day that raises the hair on your arms!! Such justice from one Artist to another

What a great voice. And great cover of this song
Y'all look bored.... this is amazing... I cry and get chills every time
Some people are just crap at reacting yet still insist on making reaction videos. They only get views because people come here to listen to amazing songs.
I saw them in concert for the first time in 2002 not long after their debut album, it's a train I never intend to get off of. The original singers have come out and said it's Disturbed song now.
The videp adds so much, you owe it to yourselves to watch. Very disturbing, creepy but effective to convey the message.
The hard intense rock growling singing part adds Resuppratation of current emotion from the character in th moments of the song
I get to see Disturbed again in concert August 3rd 2023. They are truly amazing!
He was so incredible in this song despite being sick as heck during it.
A voice like velvet, a velvet cheese grater. 😂😂
Thank you 😂 her description cracked me up!!
“Voice like velvet”, have you heard Down with the Sickness😅. I love his voice and all of Disturbed’ work. Fabulous band. ❤
Best version of all time! Crazy thing about it too is he was sick with the flu that night on Conan.
He had really bad flu when he sang this which made it even more incredible, and you can hear two bits of auto tune. David went mental when he got backstage because it was used without his consent
They had him sitting because they thought he wouldn’t be able to stand he was so ill.
NO...HE FELT GOOD. HE WAS JUST HIGH. DID A RUN 🏃♂️ LATER.
The best cover of any song ever, period.
Johnny Cash, Hurt... I don't necessarily disagree; but I'd say they are at a similar level in very different ways.
I’m so happy to see mom totally pulled into this song!!
Saw disturbed in concert here in st.louis in 2019 and they did it live. Amazing
Me too!
Great live vocals. I prefer the Simon and Garfunkel for this song but I listened to alot of disturbed harder music growing up
Can't wait for this one 🔥
this song was written about a very hard time on american history and how disconnected people had become. Disturbed decided to cover it because how the song it resonates today because how i disconnected humans have become because of cel phones.
Incredible song.
You should watch the original video version. It's incredibly beautiful. Even more than this Conan performance.
Disturbed had the flu when this lead singer sang this on this show and still sounded this awesome.
Every time I hear the Sound of Silence all I can think of Neil the hippie singing it in the bathtub on the TV show The Young Ones...A classic 😜
This song always makes me tear up because it reminds me of my father's singing voice and it's almost like I can hear him. It's even a song he would sing.
awe, that’s a wonderful beautiful memory. Thx for sharing.
RIP to your father
❤
much love from Ontario Canada

Ah...my Dad isn't dead he's just someone I have seen in years.
His voice is ridiculous. I've seen them live
I love this song. At least once if every day I listen to it as I walk through the woods.
He's covering Simon & Garfunkel's original, which I grew up on in the 70s. David Draiman, although a heavy metal singer, has a background as a trained opera singer, thus his gifted vocals.
Disturbed crushed this song! Knocked it out of the park!
Get up! Come on, get DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Love Disturbed! Saw them live at Pine Kob amphitheater Michigan!!!!
The heavier metal version is better in my opinion
They are a great band to see live.
In order to fully appreciate this cover you need to be familiar with the original and be familiar with Disturbed's songs
Saw them in concert last week and they were awesome!!!
Listen to Down With The Sickness. Another one of their immense hits that will give you more insight into the depth and artistry that this band possesses, and how David is able to effortlessly send chills down your spine with his vocals. 😁
They are a rock band. There debut album was in 2000. You should listen to more of there stuff. They are great
I seen & met Disturbed @ the West Palm Beach, FL 2006 OZZFEST. Packed Stadium & him & his mates were much more chill then those with Manson.
im late on the ball, but damn i love this mother. David is a fucking genius and she appreciate it like everyone should. She sits there smiling for like 4 minutes knowing what will come
Priceless... Mom teaching the youngens about Disturbed! Lmao
He sounds amazing live. 90% of musicians have to have so much auto-tune. Then when you see them live they're so bad they don't even sound the same. He's one of the few artists that sounds just as good live.
years ago singers didn't need that much autotune
When people don't get it they just don't get. You can't convince people that what they hear is good
Dave Draiman said that this was the only song of his his parents would listen to!! LOL!!
DISTURBED is a Heavy Metal Band, but they do AWESOME Covers, of great song. Just like this song. "Down with the Sickness" is a popular song by them, and that, is their "Norm". Great Post.
❤THANK YOU, GOD BLESS ALL . . .
😂😂 about right
love Disturbed.. love the cover they did.....but LIVE amazing
The band of Disturbed is from Chicago, Illinois. David was a business man before the band formed.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band, but this is an EPIC version of a cover song
He is heavy metal! He takes those piercings out when he goes “home” no tats either! What you 👁👁may shock you his talent is off the chain! There is no other remake of a song to this day that raises the hair on your arms!! Such justice from one Artist to another
Disturbed - band - is amazing!! Simon and Garfunkel wrote and sang the original
The woman on the right might be the cutest thing I have ever seen. Great song btw!
He had the flu during this performance. So that velvet voice you just heard was Draymon with his flu voice
Voice like velvet is exactly how I described this to a friend
Indestructible by Disturbed is my favorite song by them, it is worth a reaction.
love that song
I always thought that would b a great song to come out to n mma
