Second theory, it's possible Ozma was the last King of Vale in one of his lifetimes and that he likely used the relics as a last resort to end the war from the looks of things. I wonder if the power of the crown has something to do with everyone surrendering to him.

And it is all but outright confirmed that the King of Vale is Ozpin's previous incarnation (Ozpin saying he founded the Huntsman academies, the King's scepter very much resembles Ozpin's cane, the green color scheme), and it is likely that the crown he wore was the Relic of Choice (currently hidden in Vale), and that the sword he wielded in the final battle was the Relic of Destruction (currently in Vacuo), as both have a unique gold color scheme. The "tall tales" of unnatural disturbances could very well be Maidens in the battle... or Ozpin himself cutting loose with his magic and the Relics. It is interesting that Ozpin chose not to go the route of a world ruler, given that one of the win conditions as set by the God of Light was that humanity was to stop fighting among themselves; creating a single world nation seems like a good way to accomplish that goal. On the other hand, this method probably reminded him too much of how he once tried to rule the world via conquest with Salem, and wanted a different path that moved away from monarchy.

They wouldn't have become the ungodly military steamroller they were that required Oz to literally step out of hiding and cheat to stop them. And Remnant probably would be very different. A world with no Grimm, and Salem pushed back to the brink of existance by endless lines of giant war machines, troopers armed with weapons that fire small suns, and airships with apocolyptic firepoer. Basically; take the Tau Empire from Warhammer 40k. Make them human. And you have what Remnant would be if Mantle had won.
I mean... according to Atlas if they hadn't done that then they would be dead. It's why they tried to do that in the first place. To protect themselves.
After Rewatching this, i think its safe to say that the King of Vale was one of Ozma's incarnations, and used the Crown of Choice and Sword of Destruction to end the war.

To be honest, with such cold territory I'm sure Mantle had to rely a lot on trade. Cultures mixing with Mantle's initial culture is likely (and iirc Mantle did start out from a bunch of settlers).

Can you imagine Oz as the King of Vale going through all this? He's tried so hard to unite humanity for centuries, maybe even millennia, and then this happens. Instead of acting, he tries to keep the peace with Mistral. Then the war erupts, and Vale is forced to defend itself. Then, at the very end, things get so bad that Oz takes 2-3 relics, the sword, the crown AND the staff (or his cane, based on what we know about how both it and the staff work), and obliterates the whole battlefield. Then people turn and start worshipping him, and Oz is horrified at what he had to do. The poor guy must have so much trouble sleeping at night. The reason he still hasn't made much progress on uniting everyone is because anytime it happens, it all turns to ashes eventually.
They are basically implying us that the king was one of Ozpin’s last lifetimes, because the reunion made huntsman academies, a plan ozpin had to guard the relics all along.

I'm going to gush about something no one's mentioned: the music. This, I believe, was the first time outside their respective World of Remnant videos that we heard each Kingdoms' distinct leitmotifs (Mistral, 0:40; Mantle, 0:57; Vale, 2:08; Vacuo, 3:29), and one of the only times they've been mixed together. Alex also reprised his gorgeous melody for the Great War itself, first established in Volume 2's "Field Trip" (starting at the 2:58 mark and ending around 3:30, and a gentler variation at 6:02), and gave us a little stinger of the Huntsman melody to cap it off (6:56). I've always adored the work Alex Abraham put into the World of Remnant pieces, and this is no exception.
Definitely. The scepter and crown with it wouldn't be a coincidence. The crown might have given the king the foresight enough to use the relics. The staff could've been used to make temporary creations, ones that were effective but didn't need to stay. If the lamp was involved, which it likely could be, It would provide vital intel or was used to find the other relics first. If you can balance out the drawbacks and restrictions of the relics, they can be very powerful.
Fun Fact: Monty Oum's creation of the map started with him going to IHOP and squirting ketchup on a napkin then randomizing the blots to form the continents, which he then scanned and edited via Photoshop as a base for the world map.

I'm interested if it will come up, but the only two relics we haven't seen right now are the Crown and the Sword. Whether the King of Vale was Ozma or not (and he likely was) he probably had both the relics of Choice and Destruction with him during the last battle of the Great War. This allowed him to destroy all of his enemies and then make everyone submit, before allowing him to set up the huntsmen academies which of course gave him a place to hide the relics. Maybe the last battle was won with by an ordinary king wearing an ordinary crown and ordinary sword who using great skill, but Remnant likes it's legends tied together, so we will see if the spirits of the last two relics comment on the Great War when they are introduced.

Man, Vacuo's always getting the short end of the stick, isn't it? God, between the Great War and where the series is currently headed, I would not be surprised if the kingdom officially closes its borders once the Dust clears (pun very much intended). Just imagine some new threat looms over Vacuo in the future, and they're thinking, "Oh God, please leave us alone! We don't want any trouble!"
I really like how they describe the participation and power of the king of Vale as an hyperbole. This happens a lot in history. The "heroes" of the past are just figures to give hope and encourage people but the reality is way different.

The tension at the start is a lot like 1914 but the combat is much closer to the Seven Years’ War (considering the Great War was almost entirely confined to Europe)

No, the academies and vaults that hid the relics didn't exist during or before the war. Qrow literally says in the vid that the academies were constructed after the war. Besides you can see the Great King (Ozma) holding the Sword and wearing the Crown.

You know what would make this better? If we had seen some of this revealed in the actual show, rather than dedicating an entire small series to the world building they couldn't figure out how to implement into the actual story. I mean, this is pretty neat stuff, but literally none of this has actually come up in the entirety of 7 volumes so far. Same with a couple other World of Remnant episodes.

All of these are avenues they could have used to naturally bring up past events that better explain the current world. Heck, this is part of why Jaune would have been such a good main protagonist: as a guy from a village, he knows just as much as the audience does about anything (which is to say nothing at all, which still doesn't explain why he doesn't know about aura - that seems like really relevant information everyone should know - but whateber), so he can ask the questions we want answered.

A bad example would be when, as you said, they literally spent a large chunk of the episode having Blake explain to Sun the origins of the White Fang, when Sun (being a Faunus) already knows about the White Fang. Point is, they don't have to dump everything on you at once, just small mentions here and there. I mean, they're in a school with a history teacher, and one way they could have shown that Weiss was making an effort to patch things up with Blake would be to have Weiss ask Blake about what the White Fang are supposed to be (as in, their ideals and ideal methods). Besides, getting the plot to twist itself successfully around the lore is a sign of good world building.
The Great War was mentioned early on in Volume 2, the sense of expression that come with color names was mentioned in prerelease materials of Volume 1. The Vytal Tournament is expressly mentioned as being related to the Great War's conclusion. Volume 4 mentions that the Faunus received Menagerie after the Great War. Volume 6 shows the cooperation between Mantle and Mistral through the port city of Argus. Volume 7 has Maria outright mentioning what the purpose behind Atlas was. So, no. A lot of this has come up in the story if you were paying attention.

Can you imagine Oz as the King of Vale going through all this? He's tried so hard to unite humanity for centuries, maybe even millennia, and then this happens. Instead of acting, he tries to keep the peace with Mistral. Then the war erupts, and Vale is forced to defend itself. Then, at the very end, things get so bad that Oz takes 2-3 relics, the sword, the crown AND the staff (or his cane, based on what we know about how both it and the staff work), and obliterates the whole battlefield. Then people turn and start worshipping him, and Oz is horrified at what he had to do. The poor guy must have so much trouble sleeping at night. The reason he still hasn't made much progress on uniting everyone is because anytime it happens, it all turns to ashes eventually.
They are basically implying us that the king was one of Ozpin’s last lifetimes, because the reunion made huntsman academies, a plan ozpin had to guard the relics all along.

I think now, that it should be some tandem of Ruby with Ozpin. Ruby will neutralize Salem and then Ozpin speaking will change her heart. This looks most logical, imho. But it's still very obvious and boring.

It'd be too good an opportunity to pass up for Salem to stay out of it. Even if she wasn't behind fueling the tensions and the whole 'no emotion' thing in Mantle, I can't see her sitting it out.
I'm going to gush about something no one's mentioned: the music.
This, I believe, was the first time outside their respective World of Remnant videos that we heard each Kingdoms' distinct leitmotifs (Mistral, 0:40; Mantle, 0:57; Vale, 2:08; Vacuo, 3:29), and one of the only times they've been mixed together. Alex also reprised his gorgeous melody for the Great War itself, first established in Volume 2's "Field Trip" (starting at the 2:58 mark and ending around 3:30, and a gentler variation at 6:02), and gave us a little stinger of the Huntsman melody to cap it off (6:56).
I've always adored the work Alex Abraham put into the World of Remnant pieces, and this is no exception.

I strongly susspect that the final battle involved the Sword of Destruction, which is now hidden under Shade academy
Definitely. The scepter and crown with it wouldn't be a coincidence. The crown might have given the king the foresight enough to use the relics. The staff could've been used to make temporary creations, ones that were effective but didn't need to stay. If the lamp was involved, which it likely could be, It would provide vital intel or was used to find the other relics first. If you can balance out the drawbacks and restrictions of the relics, they can be very powerful.
Man they're REALLY teasing us with Salem's next volume design here.

@@rae8435 You're not wrong. Beacon's relic is the Crown of Choice, which was almost certainly the Hero-King's (AKA Ozma's) crown.
I'm interested if it will come up, but the only two relics we haven't seen right now are the Crown and the Sword. Whether the King of Vale was Ozma or not (and he likely was) he probably had both the relics of Choice and Destruction with him during the last battle of the Great War. This allowed him to destroy all of his enemies and then make everyone submit, before allowing him to set up the huntsmen academies which of course gave him a place to hide the relics. Maybe the last battle was won with by an ordinary king wearing an ordinary crown and ordinary sword who using great skill, but Remnant likes it's legends tied together, so we will see if the spirits of the last two relics comment on the Great War when they are introduced.
I was hoping we'd see the King of Vale during Ozpin's flashback in V6, especially with 3 of the 4 relics coming into play

I really like how they describe the participation and power of the king of Vale as an hyperbole. This happens a lot in history. The "heroes" of the past are just figures to give hope and encourage people but the reality is way different.
I like that Atlas is so ass they got shitstomped by people with literal bows and swords.
Seems to me like they were winning till the King stepped in and used magic and shit to cheat a win out.

The tension at the start is a lot like 1914 but the combat is much closer to the Seven Years’ War (considering the Great War was almost entirely confined to Europe)

Given how when RWBY starts Ozpin has all the relics safeguarded by the academies and has his most trusted followers in command of each school, it'd be pretty damn convenient if the schools were something someone else setup.

No, the academies and vaults that hid the relics didn't exist during or before the war. Qrow literally says in the vid that the academies were constructed after the war. Besides you can see the Great King (Ozma) holding the Sword and wearing the Crown.

It's pretty heavily implied that the Warrior King of Vale is an Ozma reincarnation. My headcanon is that his name was Ozymandias (King of Kings).
You know what would make this better? If we had seen some of this revealed in the actual show, rather than dedicating an entire small series to the world building they couldn't figure out how to implement into the actual story.
I mean, this is pretty neat stuff, but literally none of this has actually come up in the entirety of 7 volumes so far. Same with a couple other World of Remnant episodes.

@@artisticcannibalism1350 they literally have history lessons, increasing tensions between nations, a terrorist group set up after a previous war and a main-ish character who was inspired by their war veteran great grandfather. All of these are avenues they could have used to naturally bring up past events that better explain the current world.
Heck, this is part of why Jaune would have been such a good main protagonist: as a guy from a village, he knows just as much as the audience does about anything (which is to say nothing at all, which still doesn't explain why he doesn't know about aura - that seems like really relevant information everyone should know - but whateber), so he can ask the questions we want answered.
@@seandabest4329 That would be a good chunk of an episode spent explaining some information that doesn't really impact the story... maybe it would be better if the journey had to take them someplace with historical relevance and they could learn about that place as they explored it but, then the plot would be twisting itself around just for the sake of a Lore dump and that's not good either

Jaune: this sword has been in the family since the Great war between Vale and Vacuo against Mistral and Mantle, before they became Atlas.
Ruby: it lasted that long? That's amazing!
A bad example would be when, as you said, they literally spent a large chunk of the episode having Blake explain to Sun the origins of the White Fang, when Sun (being a Faunus) already knows about the White Fang.
Point is, they don't have to dump everything on you at once, just small mentions here and there. I mean, they're in a school with a history teacher, and one way they could have shown that Weiss was making an effort to patch things up with Blake would be to have Weiss ask Blake about what the White Fang are supposed to be (as in, their ideals and ideal methods). Besides, getting the plot to twist itself successfully around the lore is a sign of good world building.
The Great War was mentioned early on in Volume 2, the sense of expression that come with color names was mentioned in prerelease materials of Volume 1. The Vytal Tournament is expressly mentioned as being related to the Great War's conclusion. Volume 4 mentions that the Faunus received Menagerie after the Great War. Volume 6 shows the cooperation between Mantle and Mistral through the port city of Argus. Volume 7 has Maria outright mentioning what the purpose behind Atlas was.
So, no. A lot of this has come up in the story if you were paying attention.
