Stunning video Tobias, as others have mentioned, TH-cam is a much better place with with you and your artistry here. Story telling, imagery and music all combined perfectly. Thank you.
Hi Tobias, what you do is truly a masterpiece. I am always fascinated when I watch your video story of wild nature. I have no words, this is a really hard work. Bravo! 👍 Cheers, Ihor
Hello Tobias, I've seen a lot of wildlife films in the last few years. What you show us here is truly phenomenal. Congratulations on these great pictures. You made an excellent video. please keep it up...😃👌👍👋
hi Tobias what great photo and video footage. When I see it like this I wonder, could it be even better? as impressive as these images are. you can compete with the world's best nature photographers. Deep bow for your beautiful images. 👍👍👍❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏
You surely are the greatest wildlife TH-camr right now! I love how your videos simply focus on showing these beautiful and impressive animals, rather than focusing on gear or on yourself (even though I would be quite curious to have a small glimpse of how you survive the cold, haha!). I also love how natural the edits of your photos are. No over-editing and trying to equalize exposure all over your subject, which would lead to the photos losing their character. Instead, we see the animals in their natural environment with beautiful, natural light that is not always what photographers seem to call perfect, but is actually much more artistic. The photos really communicate the beauty, strength, and resilience of these animals. I love it!
Thank you very much for your heart warming words! I do try to focus on the beauty of nature rather than a technical focus, as there are many other TH-camrs who are far greater in the technical aspect. But the main reason I didn't have as many pieces to camera as I usually do, is that I was leading some photography workshops, so couldn't vlog as much as I would have liked to. I'm glad you enjoyed the video format!
Well done, Tobias... absolutely stunning photography, videography and story-telling. Watching your videos inspires me each and every time. The segment of the fighting hares was exceptional!
I certainly envy you, Tobias.......when you're young such as you, anything is possible... And I mean that in the nicest way possible. You endure the harsh climate and share your beautiful work with us.. thank you.
@TobiasGjerde You've inspired me to finish editing my hare photos. There are just too many to go through. And very glad to see you got some nice footage of the arctic fox. That was the icing on the cake.
@@kirsten1961 That's also great to hear! We were so incredibly lucky with the conditions that night. And I have thought about it in retrospect and want to apologize for just running off after the Arctic fox 😅 That was rather unprofessional of me. But I am extremely grateful for your patience, because it truly meant a lot to me!
Amazing! You are doing the beauty of those arctic creatures justice with this stunning video and photos! All the best wishes and greetings from Germany
Tusen takk for flott film og bilder fra Varanger. Jeg har bodd i Vadsø i 4 år og 2 år i Syltefjord (Båtsfjord kommune). Naturen er bare helt fantastisk.
The ptarmigan are my favourite birds. Your pictures and video's are amazing. So beautiful. These birds add so much beauty to our world, it is just unbelievable.
What a stunning video you have put together. Thank you. Those Hare images are to die for , absolutely stunning. I’m now 70 and I did wildlife and macro photography 18 years ago , I’m totally opposite now and I do minimal street photography in BW as I cannot do wild camping these days, I’ll definitely subscribe to your channel 👌🤝
TH-cam suggested this video to me, and I am so glad that it did! What a beautiful video and such incredible images! I subscribed to your channel and will definitely watch your previous videos as well!
@@jeroenschoondergang5923 Yes, it is just retracting it while resting. I believe it is to preserve warmth, but I am not 100% sure why they do it. Many wading birds retract their legs while resting, and if they feel like moving a bit, they will just hop over to where they would like to stay. I have even seen wading birds fighting on one leg, to later on pull out the other leg to start walking normally again.
@TobiasGjerdeYou are probably right. I have seen several birds do the balancing act on one leg, also the turnstones and purple sandpipers over here. Never seen them hopping around on one leg though. Could it be a cold-thing? The legs are exposed all the time.
It's always a treat seeing one of your videos drop! BRAVO! 👏👏 If the TH-cam "Super Thanks" is available in your part of the world, you should activate it. I'm sure lots of people would love to contribute to the cause, including me! 🥰Cheers!
Great video Tobias! I subbed within the first 20 seconds purely due to the presentation which immediately grabbed me… and I never normally do that. Great video and fantastic images! I see in the description it says lens used was the 300mm 2.8 mkii, was that the lens you used for all of this? Thanks!
Thanks a lot, that means a lot to hear! Yes, that is the lens I used. Some photos are also taken with the 2x III extender, and a few are taken with a 70-200mm.
@TobiasGjerdeamazing, thank you! I’ve actually been considering the 300mm 2.8 mkii (to pair with the R5) and wondered how you find it performs with the 2x mkiii in terms of AF and image quality? Do you find you need to stop down the aperture with the 2x, or is image quality still great wide open at f5.6?
Hi Tobias, I will be guiding in Varanger from March 15th 2025 so if you come to Vardø please come to say hello, will be great to meet you one day. Great video which making me more anxious to be back to Varanger. Greetings from Nemunas delta, Lithuania.
Hi Boris, I will unfortunately not be in Varanger this March, as I am now a full time student. But I will probably be back in early June, if you happen to be there then. Tobias
It's a shame YT don't allow any kind of links... otherwise I would insert info here: Wildlife Photographer of the Year. A contest which most certainly you would win unquestionably.
Veldig bra, jeg fotograferer litt selv og skjønner hvor mye arbeid som ligger bak dette, Jeg filmer litt inni mellom fotograferingen, ikke mye men sjekk min youtube kanal 😀
Thank you for kind words and for feedback! Although I would have to say I disagree on the music front. The artists I use music for are really talented in my eyes, and I quite enjoy their tracks. But that's the wonderful thing about music and other art forms -- it's just so subjective!
Stunning video Tobias, as others have mentioned, TH-cam is a much better place with with you and your artistry here. Story telling, imagery and music all combined perfectly. Thank you.

Thanks a lot! I live for those conditions!
Stunning video. The pictures, the animals, your storytelling, the music. Everything is perfect.
I will be in varanger in may an can't wait!
Thanks a lot! Good luck!
You really tell the story of the hardships these animals endure in such harsh environments!
That means a lot to hear!
Your photos and video are beautiful and incredible, amongst the very best I’ve ever seen.
Thank you very much!
Astonishing magic nature in Varanger. You're by far the best nature photographer I know. Well done again!
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
What a fantastic work. It must be very beautiful, but hard to stay there with this coldness. Thank you very much for sharing it with us.
Thanks a lot! I enjoy the process, and love the cold :)
Hi Tobias, Your natural ability to capture the most beautiful wildlife footage and photos is truly extraordinary. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much!

Stunning filmography and photography. Pure art. You're up there with the best on TH-cam, but how do stand that cold 🥶
Thank you very much! Haha, I’ve grown up in Norway and love winter time!
Fantastic !!!
Thanks!
Amazing video!!!
Thank you!
Stunning pictures!

Thanks James!
Very, very nice again!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderful stuff again Tobias! That one purple sandpiper didn't think enduring an arctic winter was enough, so he lost a leg...
Thanks a lot! It was in fact just retracting its leg while resting
@TobiasGjerde Hi Tobias, check out the bird around 5:20 in the clip, it is hopping around on one leg

Nydelig film igjen. Ser ut som det var en produktiv tur. De harebildene er det verdensklasse over!

Hi Tobias, I will be all season there from 15th March till 15th August guiding for Vardø hotell. 😊
Bro is making me think about my trip in March 2025 rather then study for exam session haha Amazing video as always my friend
Haha happy to hear I could distract you ;)
Talking about resilience, this purple sandpiper had one leg.
5:22
Fortunately, it wasn’t actually missing a leg, it was just hopping around on one. They often do this when resting, perhaps to minimize heat loss
