    In the litter box table, I'd add a plastic rubber mat under the litter box to protect the bottom of the box from pee and keep the box from sliding around. And a hook for the inside of the box for the scoop! Then a panel of mesh for the opening. I'd totally have one in my house!

      I’ve seen hacks like this before. Incorporating cat necessities into furniture, especially in open plan, small homes where you wouldn’t want to have the litter tray in the middle of your box-like apartment and you still want your cats to have fun places to climb, play, eat, hide, sleep as well as do their business in a neatly configured zone. It may have been an ikea hack or a secondhand/curb-side collection furniture up-cycle thing. It may have even been on a lifestyle genre TV show but other than that I have no leads on how to find them again.

      So true, and they should have also painted/sealed the cut on the triangle door to protect the wood from moisture.

      And also whoever makes one should definitely find a way to make the cat scratching stuff *INTERCHANGEABLE* !!! When I saw her just glue a panel of cardboard to the back, I cried 😂

    • @ladykatangel106
      @ladykatangel106 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I did this a long time ago & I used Velcro to interchange the cardboard & placed the cabinet I made on a carpet so the cardboard "spillage" could be easily cleaned up! I also placed a small diaper pail beside the litter box! I had home depot cut the square out for me! I made my cabinet out of MDF! I really wish I still had it. Sadly, it was destroyed in the fire I had a few years ago.

    • @ladykatangel106
      @ladykatangel106 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      OH! I also put my scented candles on top of the table to mask any smells! NO! This is NOT what caused the fire! My neighbor upstairs had a mean ex-boyfriend & well you can figure out the rest!

    • @debbieboring3422
      @debbieboring3422 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ladykatangel106 LOL I didn't even think of the candle and the fire. But I like the Velcro idea and the carpet. Even if your floor was not carpeted you can get remnants for next to nothing. Or when they getting the new carpets in at Home Depot or Lowe's the samples from last year are next to nothing. Had a house fire that sucks. Event stuff that doesn't burn smells. But great idea about the Velcro.

    I would love if you guys could make a DIY Cat tower for "fat cats" specifically. 2 of my 3 cats are larger breed cats(they weigh 15 and 18 lbs) so unfortunately the cat towers I have purchased in the past are quickly broken or made incredibly unstable because of the 2 larger cats jumping in and out. I usually spend about $130 after shipping on premade cat towers. I would love if you could make a really nice castle feeling cat tower for around the same price that could hold up to larger cats.
    Thanks Sorry Girls!

      I would recommend getting a custom cat tree. The guy in my area charges anywhere from $200-$300 depending on the size but it's worth the investment. The trees are beautiful, stable, and safe!

    if anyone were to do this litterbox DIY I think the door hinge should be on the bottom rather than the top (pull down rather than pull up) so that it is a bit more ergonomic for a human to slide in a litter box from a bent over standing position rather than crouching under the door as the door will be in your face. hope that makes sense?

    • @XusernamegoeshereX
      @XusernamegoeshereX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes! Or they could have gotten a spring loaded hinge that would stay open by itself

    Cats need to remove outer nail sheet. They need something deep enough to insert their whole claw length inside and thick and sturdy enough to keep their old layer when they pull it out. They also do that to stretch their bodies. Thick rope or old carpet are the best for that purpose.

    Do you girls know about ReStore by Habitat for Humanity? They receive a bunch of donation from people renovating their house and even from construction businesses. They often have old painted windows, vintage door knobs, etc. At least that's what the one in Montreal has, but I assume the donations must be similar in Toronto! You could definitely find interesting and unique finds there! ;)

    you should have gotten special hinges for that cabinet. My kitchen has doors that open that way, but you need special hinges so it would stay up while you are taking something out.

    • @karicherrycola
      @karicherrycola 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Ieva Vaicekauskaitė if you made it the way they did, you could just remove the litter box from the cabinet, clean it, and then put it back in its place. Though I do see your point - hinges that stay in place would be more convenient.

    • @DanSolSko

      I think they're called piston hinges

    • @RandySoWavvy
      @RandySoWavvy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      karicherrycola most of the time you need 2 hands if you’re holding a litter box especially if you’re trying to take out a dirty litter box the last thing you wanna be messing with is a door and risk dropping dirty litter on your floor 😷

    That litter box should have a way to keep the door open or should just open from the side instead of the top. And it looked better before the ripped cardboard was glued to the side of it. If they wanted to cut the triangle out without taking the whole thing apart they could've drilled a hole and then used a saw to cut from the hole. It depends on the tools they had though.

    Great ideas! Scratcher suggestion: Amazon and pet stores sell scratcher inserts, which would last much longer than a single layer of cardboard. For corrugated, cutting it into 2 or 3 cm strips, then rolling them into a circle or triangle shape (quilling for cats) prior to gluing it to the box is another longer-lasting option.

    i have a hack for two litter box covers. Get the Francesca writing desk from Wayfair. Find a fabric print that matches your decor. Make a desk skirt using velcro around the table. Leave an entry slit on each side for the cats to get in and out. When you need to clean just move the desk and sweep and clean your boxes and deodorize the table bottom which is a plastic that really looks like wood. It lets the cats in and out and the fabric can be washed or easily replaced. I put the wire criss cross facing the room so its easy to slide out. Can't use it as a desk this way but you can use it as a decorative console table.

    I got an as is IKEA square cabinet years ago that had a square door with glass in it. Busted out the glass, filled the seam with hot glue to make sure there were no tony shards and popped a litter box in that guy. It looked so nice! We recently moved and the kitties went outside, since they kept trying to escape the apartment and wanted to be free lol. Took out the litter box, replaced it with a bed and put it on our back deck and the cats still love it! Hands down best thing I've ever bought from IKEA, and it was only like 20 bucks in the as is section.

    These were amazing!!!!
    Tip for the cat litter cabinet, it needs ventilation up top on the back where u can add charcoalfilters for the smell. They last a long time and makes the inside not smell.
    I would add a latch for the front door so you could empty the litter box easily without holding the door up.

    • @Meanne77
      @Meanne77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +90

      Same thought. Also, as a owner of 2 cats I highly doubt any cat would go scratch near their litter. Or, like, do anything near their litter. Cats usually like to keep spaces separated.
      (I also think the water bowl is to close to the food bowl. Pets eat messily, the food will 100% go fly in the water bowl when they're so close to each other. The heigh is fine for such a dog but probably too height for small dogs or cats. Just keep that in mind if you want to do this DIY, people!)
      I like watching DIY for pets but 90% of the time I'm like: yeah, that's a lot of work for something that is pretty in the human eyes but worthless in the pet's eyes ^^; Especially cats maybe? They'll do whatever they please, don't bother trying to DIY them a bed, they'll keep sleeping wherever they prefer, not where if would be more convenient to you ^^; *says the girls watching her cat sleeping on the drying clean bed sheets* Thanks for the hairs, cat >.

      Uhhh...since there was a CAT I'm assuming they have a litter box...but either way the point (which I thought was pretty obvious) that I was trying to make is that a litter box...even a small one, would not FIT in there and be usable by a cat....which is WHY they didn't use one in the shot.

    I saw the cat litter box all over pinterest and want to build one. Yours is the only tutorial I've ever come across. Great job! Personally I would make it larger and use a litter catcher mat (because trust me, those devils get EVERYWHERE!) right outside the litter box (but inside the cabinet). Don't think it's a great idea to put the cardboard scratcher outside the litter cabinet though because eventually it's gonna be shredded and then you're just left with an ugly mark at the side. We made one for our cat - just a wooden board, elevate it slightly on one side by attaching wooden feet, and wrapping thick jute twine around the board and keeping it in place by stapling or hot gluing it. She loves using it. You'll find it on pinterest too.

    You should seal the cut edge in the cat cabinet to prevent the wood getting grotty. Actually seal all joins because once moisture gets in wood warps.

    I love it and I think both my furry babies would like it too. Just glue some upholstery or piece of carpet on the top of the cat toilet so the cat doesn't slide off during crazy time and add some hot glue to the dog bowls to make them sturdier/non-slip as well.

    5:30 LITTLE TIP: when the hot glue is still warm and bendable, flip the holders right side up and put a board or a large but-not-too-h eavy book on them, so the warm glue on the bottom dries evenly in height, so that the bowls stand perfectly at a 90 degree angle

    that is smart! i'd probably use a smaller shelf to take up less space, maybe even put a cat clock on top of it

    My cat needs multiple litter boxes bc she's a princess and her favourite one is right in my entryway, so I've been trying to figure out how to hide her box and get an entryway bench and I stumbled onto this video and y'all saved me. I'll be trying that FOR SURE and putting little feet on it as well.
