I've viewed more than 50 video lectures presented by Swami Sarvapriyananda, and this is possibly the BEST one, IMHO. There is so much passion in the delivery, and he makes the meaning of this single verse seem so simple to understand.

One of the most amazing teachers of Consciousness. He is humble and he is describing the most awesome things. Im a Muslim but love this man who foreshadows Truth for us till we realize it.. Even Sadguru seems to preach a sectarian doctrine against the awesome universality of Nondual Vedanta.

I find using a mantra and mala are useful tools for getting a habit of mental repetition going... then when the mantra is going along by itself them i drop the mala. Then when i enter into the consciousness without thought i can let go of the mantra. Then i can abide while fully aware of abiding. Still aware of that there is an 'out there' but not distracted by it. No mind activity... no awareness of self and no awareness of not-self... but simply awareness of abiding in nothing/everything. I find that if I make any effort to become aware of the abiding... that is when the abiding begins to recede. If i let go of the effort (a grasping) the empty&full abiding returns. Once we get the 'hang of it' It's almost as if the abiding wants primarily to BE... but our mind activity can distract us from it. You might first attempt to just dwell in trust and patience and sincerity and emptiness... without any expectation. I hope there is something here that can help you.

Wow ! It's very beautiful ! Swami Sarvapriyananda has very beautifully explained three processes of Teaching of Vedanta, which are :
    1) Hearing - I know what Vedanta said.
    2) Reflecting - I understand it.
    3) Meditating - But it has not transformed my life. It has not delivered. Now we have to absorbed it by Vendantic Meditation. It's really amazing!

I am Catholic and I have always been fascinated by non-dual teaching of Meister Echart that the Swami quoted in the beginning of this lecture, "the ground of being of God and my ground of being is one and the same." The Swamiji's erudition and eloquence in explaining about advaita vedanta, conciousness, sadhana, help throw new and fresh light in the way I grasp the deeper meanings of the verses in Gospel such as the Beautitudes, and the verses in Mathew 21: "Watch and pray....the Spirit is strong/willing, but the flesh is weak."

I have the version published by the Advaita Ashrama which is great because it has so much extra information in it, extended footnotes to thoroughly explain the meaning behind the use of many words and a narrated version of what the verses are saying, but sometimes it is hard to read through because you constantly get sidetracked by all of that stuff when you just want to read the work on its own. Sounds like I should look into getting the Byrom version as well.

Can we say therefore that a finer distinction is created by dividing giving recognition to the portion of the Bramhan who will not come under the influence of Maya. The subtle body and the gross body which come under the influence of Maya (which constitutes undifferentiated consciousness) have been segregated. The portion of Bramhan under the influence of Maya and under the influence of Karma( or differentiated consciousness or masked consciousness) can be subjected to wear and tear, change. So this masked portion has to be transcended in order to transcend suffering. Non duality will also be maintained.
