    I used to do some very good airbrushing back when I was 16 or so. I stopped for a lot of years and started back doing stuff on charity guitars I build for fun, but I just turned 60. I obviously never had your skill. However, your channel motivated me enough to start back and enjoy what I can do at my age (this still feels funny saying that as I turned 60 only a couple of days ago). Thank you Aussie Aussie Aussie!

    You are the "Guru" of the airbrush. I hava a question, if you have a little time... I work with thinner base paints.. the question is: is the thinner in some way damaging the airbrush?
    Thanks

    I also put a moisture trap on the air inlet end of all my airbrushes...overkill??? maybe....but I don't ever have moisture problems if I keep them empty.

      @AirbrushAsylum  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More moisture traps are never overkill, I personally run one on my larger compressor then it goes through an ‘air filter’ (Amaxi toilet roll filter) then I have another moisture trap / regulator on my bench so anything that helps prevent the issue of moisture is a great idea 👍🏻

    Iwata compressors are made by Sparmax, might aswell buy the cheaper original branded version...

    • @AirbrushAsylum
      @AirbrushAsylum  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Iwata bought Sparmax recently and you are correct that they are re-branded sparmax compressors that said I do love the IS975 as it has the dual regs and good size tank, not sure of another portable compressor which has these features 🤔

    Being a genius, I use clear plastic tube, so I can _see_ if there is moisture in the air-line. Also, I get it from work for free out of the skip.
    I don't know how well they work, but on the advice of another airbrushing TH-camr I just bought an airbrush filter (Sagud brand). I haven't tried it yet but it makes a nice handle/finger-rest on my airbrush.

    Reallly useful tutorial. I didn't imagine the amount and color of the moisture trapped in the tank!!!

    Put your Teflon tape on with the direction of the thread, so it isn't binding up when threading on parts. The way you applied it feeds the edge of the tape into the threads and can cause issues. Wrap your tape "down" the threads.

    I absolutely LOVE the simplicity of your moisture checking tip! Of course!! I added a desiccant filter to the air line coming from my compressor (mainly because I already owned it from airgun use) but this will put my mind at ease. Thanks, as ever.

    What about the in-line moisture trap that connects to the base of the airbrush! Iwata offer them for about $20. Obviously water in the lines is an air-brushers enemy. I won’t go into the science but moisture is always present generally in our atmosphere and is higher in content with higher temps! Thanks for you tips a tricks, keep them coming!

    Thank you for this excellent tutorial, very precise and very clear. I have been practicing airbrushing for about ten years and it happens that I already practice the same maneuvers as you. I am therefore in the right!
    For my part I ended up adopting a rather short air hose (5 feet) equipped with an additional moisture filter and it seems to work very well.
    I would add that, from time to time, when I don't use my equipment for several days, I dismantle the bleed screw from the air tank as well as the outlet pipe and let my compressor dry in a large garbage bag filled with silicone grains (cat litter) to dry out the tank completely.
    It seems to give me good results because so far I have very little rust and traces of oxidation in the water drained from my tank.
    Finally, I think that compressor tanks should be equipped with two drain holes (one at the bottom and one at the top) to allow occasional effective aeration action.
    But so this is only the subjective impression of the simple amateur that I am!
    Looking forward to seeing you in your videos with your excellent advices that help me to master this great tool that is the airbrush.
    Best regards from 🇨🇵.😊

    Humidity causes the main problem. Compress humid air and water droplets occur. I also use an inline moisture trp on the airbrush end to trap any moisture that may be in the hose.

      I live in michigan and all spring summer and little of fall it's always 75% and up humidity 90 to 100 all summer. I have to wd40 out the inside to get any rust that is starting every few weeks. Plus a inline trap on top of the one at the compressor and there's day's every half hour to hour I have to empty the traps.

    When I drain my Sil-Air 20A I get water mixed with a little bit of the oil I use which is yellow. Wandering if that should be the case.

    On my air compressor it always has some in the trap but can't get it all out cause of the design won't let the monster at the bottom go out

    • @AirbrushAsylum
      @AirbrushAsylum  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the moisture traps can be removed so they can be cleaned out , they usually just screw off , that said pressing the valve should allow you to drain any moisture 👍🏻

      @@AirbrushAsylum i honestly don't know how it happened, I've been to scared to turn the compressor on since it happened. I was putting the finishing touches on one of my masks, and yeah, it's ruined now, have to sand it back and start from prima!
      Also, just got my first batch of Trident colours in. I am very impressed with the paint, and surprise, there's some of your artwork on the Box!!

    Are you supposed to press the moisture trap release when the compressor is on/running? Or are you supposed to turn off the compressor and then release all the pressure through the moisture trap?

      The quick connects that come with it can be adapted to any 1/4inch fitting so that you can use your existing hose and not the stupid ‘curly ones’ that come with the unit 😱

    Wow, what's all the dark stuff coming out of that compressor? I expected water but not the black stuff. Rust would be orange, so what's in there that is black? I was looking for tips on draining tanks as mine is one that has a nut at the bottom, very awkward. Thinking of somehow raising it up and installing some sort of tap system.

    • @TheGoKidd
      @TheGoKidd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably a mixture of rust and compressor oil.

  • @dlmdlm7685
    @dlmdlm7685 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any air compressor should be drained every day there's always a release valve at or near the bottom of the tank. Make sure you have the drain hole pointed at the ground some have to be tipped most just lifted up straight or reach under. If you get rusty water out use wd40 and a straw and hose it down leave over night and fill it up then drain might take two fills to get all out. The thing is if you don't keep it dry the compressor can and eventually will fail usually at a weld line. That means it explodes I worked in shops for a long while as went to trade school and I've seen it first hand. I won't say what happened to the guy who was using it as it's very gruesome but trust me you will be in the hospital and look different when you get out if not loose your life. They are high pressure shrapnel bombs just waiting to go off if not maintained correctly.
