This is an astonishing looking little bowl Phil. The grain & colour is quite beautiful & I can see your locomotive in that lovely branch inclusion. As I said before, an astonishing little bowl because it has been through the hands of a Master Craftsman. There is NOTHING to not like with this little bowl, it is a work of Art. Don

Very nice result from a piece of wood that most people would have thrown away or burnt in their fireplace. It takes a good eye to be able to visualize the beauty that is hidden in a piece of wood, and you obviously have that!! Thanks for sharing and keep up the nice work!

Really nice Phil! Pacific Dogwood is a really hard wood. I have made about 10 bowls out of it, and they are all pinkish like the one you made, and some of them even have dark streaking in them too, just like yours. This wood also spalts very nicely too. I really think you made a winner out of this one! (I see a toucan, yes like the fruit loops bird, childhood nostalgia lol)

The underside of the bowl reminds me of a ladies shoe , inside the bowl the dark wood reminds me of a comet but there is definitely a man's face at the head of the (Comet ) likened to an ancient African warrior.Certainly a keeper I'm sure you signed it proudly.

Phil before you said what you saw with the dark wood I saw a slug with a dogs face...lol That said it is a very pretty bowl with a nice finish.
Also last Sunday a friend gave me 3 nice sized Dogwood chunks and 2 Sycamore pieces. All fresh cut so now I have to wait. His neighbor had the trees cut down and now he looks for wood for me.
Great job on this one...I guess they can teach and Old Dogwood new tricks.
    Take care my friend,

Haha! Actually, my first thought was slug, too, Gary, but apparently they are not universal and I didn't want to have to explain what a slug is!
How cool, now you've got neighbors searching out wood!

    Great looking piece of Dogwood.
In the state of Virginia, Dogwood is the state tree. It’s hard to fine unless it’s dead or storm damage.
I have never turned a Dogwood bowl, just very small things from a dead one. It’s a very slow growing tree here in Virginia.

Phil, You've done an Amazing job My Friend! Wasn't it Dogwood that the cross was made of... kinda figures that there would be such inherent beauty hidden in such a piece! Rather fitting if you ask me.

Thank you, Steve! The cross was rhododendron.

I also thought that the cross JESUS carried to his crucifixion was dogwood and the pink color represented his blood also found in the flower. Live n learn.

To be honest Phil without being asked In Ireland at the moment a lot of Mediaeval sites are being found and lots of stuff is being shown in areas around the Country I wouldn't say the Dog wood Dish would be out of place but it would be accepted in the present context because of the arrow ----Knife type showing in the Dish ----Other than that It's ultra Beautiful xxxx
