  • In this video I hike 10 miles along the banks of the mighty Ohio River in Southern Indiana. Minus an isolated run in with a crazy man and several homeless encampments, this pathway was an incredible place to hike and I highly recommend it. Just make sure you take a buddy with you...
    The section I did in this video begins just behind the Falls of the Ohio visitor's center and goes west for 5 miles to downtown New Albany at the Sherman Minton bridge.
    If you like this hike and enjoy my videos, it would help me greatly if you liked the video and subscribed to my channel. More adventures are coming!
    Thanks for watching!!

    The floodwall wasn't built until after 1937 flood by the Army Corpse of Engineers and prisoners from where the Colgate plant is today. The stream is named Mill Creek. Great Video 👍

    Love the jokes and tour, another good one!
    Useless trivia: Darrell Sweet, drummer and founding member of rock band Nazareth, famous for the songs, “Love Hurts”, and “Hair of the Dog”, suffered a fatal heart attack at the New Albany amphitheater. They have a bronze plaque on the back of the place, facing the river, to commemorate Darrell.

    • @DerrickHikes
      @DerrickHikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Roger! As a drummer myself, that is an awesome piece of information to find out! I will have to check out the plaque next time I’m over there. I’ve probably walked past it a hundred times and never stopped to pay attention.

      @@DerrickHikes It almost sounded like folklore when I heard about it, but it checked out on Wikipedia, so,…😂 Yeah I had to drop by and take a picture of it.

      @@AdventureswithRogerI had to look through my footage and I was able to see it in another clip I have of the amphitheater. That’s awesome!

    I enjoyed the humor in your video 😅 yes southern Indiana. That makes sense that you had some weird guy asking where his son.was and people smoking cabbage 😂. I subbed. You don't live far from us. We're in fishers. We have some awesome Hoosier TH-cam meet ups at the Charles Deam wilderness and we also meet up at Red River Gorge. Great video! 👍

      Thank you so much, Nicole. I have only been doing TH-cam for one month now and I’ve heard of a couple meetups in the gorge. I would really like to be a part of one sometime in the near future. Maybe we will run into each other soon! I’m out every weekend.

      @@DerrickHikes look up "that hiking guy" Chris. He puts out the Indiana meet ups. Next one will be April 5 through 7 at Blackwell horse camp at the Deam. I'm putting out the gorge dates and they are 11 through 13 Oct at Hansons point. I'll talk about that in upcoming videos. We have amazing people in these meet ups.

    I can't hike along paved or black top paths. They do my feet in. You should have asked them for a spliff. As for the homeless mentally ill. I saw a lot in my visits to the States. In the UK, they would get treatment. No copay, but that's another story. I always carry a power bank with me for the just in case moment. You always make me laugh in these videos. Keep it up, Derrick, and thanks for sharing. Nothing wrong with a nice big beaver, preferably a shaved one 😂

    • @DerrickHikes
      @DerrickHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes after this past weekend I’m going to be taking a break from the pavement for a while. If I had a spliff on the hike then no onion ring within 5 miles would have been safe 😂 Usually I have my power bank but this trip I must have had a contact buzz because I forgot that and my snack. Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris. Always appreciate you taking the time to do so.
