Down at J.T Myers , they use to have a path that you could walk out onto one of the locks. At night time , watching the barges come in and through was really cool. Even just standing by the rails andnfeeling the cool night breeze with something feel.

@@AdventureswithRoger This episode reminds me of one of my very favorite books “The Shantyboat Journal” by Harlan Hubbard. He and his wife were artist from Payne Hollow, KY-across river from Madison. Harlan is often considered “Kentucky’s Thoreau” and lived a simple, beautiful life on the banks of the Ohio. They took many journeys down the Ohio in his self built shanty boat and this book tells the story of the journey. It’s really inspiring and incredible. We went over to Harlan and Anna’s cabin site many years ago. They way they lived and worked on the river property is just magical to me. I think about their story every time you feature Madison and the river in your movies. I’ve often wondered if someday you might venture across river to Kentucky and perhaps feature the Hubbards 🙂🏞️

The French fur trappers considered the Ohio to be a tributary of the Wabash. The Wabash River was much more useful to the trappers because it provided an easy postage to Lake Erie near Ft Wayne.

I’ve did many segments about the Ohio, Blue, Lost, and White Rivers, but only a few along the Wabash. There’s some pretty interesting stories to be told about it, with European exploration at least as early as the 1600’s. Someone was telling me about French fur trader stashes, where they’d bury furs and winter supplies, for their return trip. That would be an awesome find!

We just did an extended 4 day weekend and was able to visit a couple of these. So beautiful. Madison,Hanover, Corydon, Brandenburg, Horseshoe Bend Levenworth, Derby,Rome, Cannelton Troy, St Meinard, and Jadper. Stayed one of the nights at Kintner House. We didnt go to Clifty since my wife and I both agree it needs its own visit of a couple days. Great video! your prior videos are what inspired our recent trip!

Outstanding! This time of year, the greenery makes everything beautiful! That whole area will look like a different place, once fall comes around. Early fall colors make it a wonderland. Late fall, when all the leaves drop, and you’ll see things that were hidden by foliage. Depending on when you go, you get s different park! 🙂
Just really glad that you and your daughter went!

Just seeing these places inspired me! I must see the Christ of the Ohio! And that overlook..... Your term a "spiritual experience" is exactly how I feel seeing places of tranquility and beauty in my native Ohio, and in Kentucky. I have yet to travel Indiana. (well I tried but my ex got so grouchy, Seems he didn't have the same fascination as I. A very funny story on that, but the comment would be a book)
After watching your secret cave under the Ohio river, do You think the dams may have flooded the entrance to the cave possibly?
I must see these places and more before i can check that list.

We have Indiana cave systems with dry passages under wet ones, so anything is possible! 🙂

@@SidLaw500If you can do some rough hiking, there’s several other amazing places in southern Indiana:
      - Yellow Birch Ravine (East) has a natural arch and many caves
-Yellow Birch Ravine (West) has some wonderful waterfalls if it’s rained the night before. Be prepared to walk through streams to reach the waterfalls at the end of the ravine.
      - Hemlock Cliffs is a beautiful ravine with huge rock faces and one of the biggest rock shelters in the state
      - Spring Mill State Park has a beautiful pioneer village, many caves, and if you’re up to a vigorous set of stairs: the beautiful Donaldson cave. It has a nice ramp, you can walk over the stream and into the cave if you want. It does get wet and slippery, and you’ll need a flashlight.
