Sikth is an absolute wonder of a band musically. Their first album is forever cemented in my top 3 and I've been waiting for someone to analyse them for a while now, the fact that my favourite composer decided to look into it really makes me happy. I'd definitely recommend checking out Skies of Millenium Night or Scent of the Obscene from their debut album, or Bland Street Bloom from their second album Death of a Dead Day.
I'M STILL HERE Dude I'm so happy you got round to doing Sikth - one of my favourite bands and never get enough credit for what they did both musically in their own tracks, and for the genre as a whole. This track is from an EP they released after a 10 year hiatus, and the 2 albums they released in the early 2000's are absolutely amazing. Favourite Band of all time. Discovered them shortly after the release of their first record, around 2004? Loved them ever since. Must have seen them about 15 times throughout the years and am seeing them again this November (2022) and I cannot wait!
They were doing this stuff way before it caught on and basically became the new progressive/djent scene. SikTh and Meshuggah and some of the first bands any modern prog band will say influenced them. I remember buying an issue of Rock Sound (UK magazine) back when they used to come with CD's, heard "Hold My Finger" and had literally never heard anything like it, literally blew my little mind.
SikTh has two vocalists. Their first two albums apparently had a huge influence on a lot of the progressive metal that came out in the 2010s, bands like Periphery and The Dillinger Escape Plan. This is from their last record, which came out in 2017 iirc. If you're looking for something from their older stuff, I'd definitely recommend Flogging the Horses, Bland Street Bloom, Peep Show, or Scent of Obscene.

I have no idea how this band isn't treated in the same way that we treat Pink Floyd, Tool, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, RATM etc. They are THE originators of a totally radical different genre of music. I understand that those that come before influence those after, so I'm not stating they formed in a vacuum, but before this, nothing existed quite like this. Accessible, extremely technical, heavy, multi vocally tonal, hilarious and almost manically creative. Their last album is a masterpiece in concepts. Great that you've covered them. Criminally underrated and often very misunderstood.
Just a side note for this band, these are the nicest guys in metal I have ever met, Mikey the lead singer is soooo calm and an amazing poet also in his side project, and Pin is always having a beer with fans in the bar later after a show, beautiful people 🍻

Thanks for that Geebz. Superb. There are several more amazing ALBUMS from them. The first time I saw them they were supporting Machinehead, I’d never heard of them before. 2 vocalists. Running round the stage. Bouncing. Poetry. Screaming. Growling. Melody. Insane guitar and bass runs. They blew Machinehead out the water. I’ve been a fan ever since. Thanks for listening to them!

I can't imagine how you've never heard of SikTh, but you're going to have some more digging to do. Might like the bands Maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot as well.
They were really big in the British underground/prog metal scene, but they never really made the jump to popularity in the US unless you were really plugged into the extreme metal scene. Their first album came out way back in 2003, and I can only imagine it was really out there for the time, compared to other artists in the related genres.
@@bknight3391 yep and then went on hiatus for 10 years! They did a bunch of gigs in the last few years but I don’t know if we’ll see them perform live again :(

I'm here a little late I guess. This is one of my favorite songs of the last decade for sure. Probably why this video here was on my recommend page, because I have watched the Philistine Philosophies video maybe a thousand times since it was first uploaded. I'm not a huge Sikth (like six, but instead of an "x" on the end of it, pronounce it with a lisp, with a "th", "si-th"), but the first time I ever heard Bland Street Bloom, I think around 2007, it just blew me away. As someone who has been playing the drums since I was 12 years old, that song broke my brain. Not just because of the drumming, and the weird snare part in the chorus, because of the overall awesomeness of it and how different it was to anything else that at least I was listening to at the time. When they came out with this song way later, even then it was just so different, so few bands gave me that kind of vibe. Absolutely loved it.
Sikth are just so amazing. They influenced a ton of modern Djent bands back in the day. "Scent of the Obscene" is one of my faves from them. The bass slap solo at the beginning will prolly make your elbow itchy haha
I just started learning this at the start of the week and the structure swaps between 4/4 and 5/4 in those golden age verse 'passages' you were talking about and then goes back to 4/4 in the chorus. They do a bunch of stuff which is centered around 'counting' your measure and they tend not to think about things in any given time signature. They'll have their drum beat, but often the drums aren't highlighting the 5/4 on the cymbals, but keeping a 4/4 feel while the guitar does the 5/4 stuff and that makes it feel super polyrhythmic. These 5/4 passages don't really sound like the way you expect 5/4 to sound to me at least. I loved your reaction man!
So, found your channel tonight and have watched 6 reaction vids already. I love music, from slipknot to the carpenters but can't play any instruments so to get hear technical breakdowns of MY music is awesome. You rule. Simple.
You need to react to some Jacob Collier!!! Hideaway is a masterpiece and Saviour has a groove like you've never heard!! He writes/arranges everything himself and plays all the instruments AND sings all the parts, absolute prodigy!
@@tererai7936 Home is and Moon River, those vocal parts are mind blowing. He showed the score for moon river in a master class and there were like 15 note chords lol
Another comment stated that the band Aliases shares a guitarist with SikTh but i always thought the vocals sounded similar too; apparently one of the vocalists of SikTh has left but Aliases recently dropped a rendition of Mad World
Swallowing The Rabbit Whole by Code Orange is a studio masterpiece. It is as much about the musicianship and arrangements as it is about all the studio tricks that went into the production. Many layers to this one ...and it hits harder than hell.
You should listen to some Buckethead. Amazing guitarist with over 300 studio albums. He plays everything from heavy to shred and even funk and bluegrass. I'd start with Soothsayer and branch out from there.
One of the only react channels I feel is legit knowledgeable and genuinely makes you feel good when we see him find something to live a hit something we love… if I had heard sikth first time just like tool I hated it… but I knew I was hearing something special. Know little theory, classically trained on brass, but I needed a jolt as a kid and somebody screaming it at me is eventually what broadened my maturing horizons. I know when I don’t like something bud it sux or don’t like it because it isn’t familiar, esp used to before TH-cam not knowing what anyone looks like or their energy or just sound and I really enjoyed more gentle stuff when I could watch the composition aka the only way I remotely grasp polyrhythms to play them is muscle memory rudiment, feels like chaos but I know what sounds good when I see someone playing
I've not even listened to your verdict yet, but SikTh were instrumental in getting me into heavy music nearly 20 years ago with Skies Of Millennium Night. I'd be interested to see your thoughts on that track. Also, if you want more Devin Townsend then 'Higher' is an incredible journey, and 'Why?' (album version for preference) is my favourite non-Disney Disney musical. Keep up the good work! You're the only reaction channel I've subscribed to!
Stoort neer is an amazing instrumental project from the members of vildharjata.. excellent arrangements and production Would be awesome to see you have a listen
First of all, I want to say *THANK YOU*! Wanted to write a comment about and absolutely recommend Sikth since they are such a unique and hugely underrated band in my opinion! Just some pointers if you ever come back to Sikth - which I really hope you do: - Songs worth checking and/or showcasing their unique sikthy sound: Bland Street Bloom, As The Earth Spins Round, When The Moment's Gone, Another Sinking Ship, In This Light, Wait for Something Wild, Skies of the Millenium Light, Pussyfoot, Behind the Doors, Walking Shadows, Days are Dreamed, Suffice, (If You Weren't So) Perfect - Some people would say they are one of the originators of the "djent" sound along with Meshuggah that's so prevalent in today's progressive metal scene. While I love me some djenting, I kinda feel it has become a formula for today's progmetal bands, while Sikth was always progressive in the true sense of the word. - They are pretty talented, creative and multifaceted people: Most of the guys are also teachers of their respective instruments, or vocal coach in Mikee W. Goodman's case; Justin Hill - the guy with the higher singing and screaming voice, Mikee W. Goodman - the other singer with the crazy voices, and Dan Weller their ?lead? guitarist are also producers. The amazingly produced and pretty interesting Enter Shikari album "Flash Flood of Colour" was produced entirely by Dan Weller; This videoclip is pretty much entirely the work of their singer Mikee, he has also produced their first videoclip called "May I Help You?". - Every album of theirs have at least one track that are pretty much spoken words done by Mikee playing different characters with his voice and have added ambient sounds to accompany his performance. - Their first album (*The Trees are Dead and Dried Out Wait for Something Wild*) feels the craziest in their ideas, freshness, wildness, ferociousness and vocal performances, also worth mentioning that many of the tracks have been featured on previous EPs and demos which at times are even more insane imo! - Their second album (*Death of a Dead Day*) is an absolute masterpiece in musicianship. The insanity is still there but it's overall a more mature album with incredibly sick instrumental parts, if the previous album is "out there" in terms of the vocals, then I think this album is comparably as out there instruments wise, some of the guitarparts are the most mental I have ever heard, and the drums are truly one of a kind at times. It has more tracks that are passable as songs (damn epic ones at that), it's a richer sounding album overall. - The track you've just heard is from their comeback minialbum (*Opacities*) which is a pretty amazing (just a bit short) album as well, not losing their trademark sound and still sounding fresh, all tracks are excellent on this one in my opinion, I'd even say Philistine Philosophies is my least favorite and it's still a hell of a track. After this release came the latest one (*The Future in Whose Eyes?*) which is their first album without their singer Justin Hill. That one is also a really good album, one that starts to grow on you after several listens, I prefer their earlier materials however and also miss Justin from the vocal section. - While writing this long-ass comment (that you might even miss:D) I re-listened their entire catalog and realized that their entire first album is crazy, their entire second one is amazing and could recommend every single track from the third one... they are truly a one of a kind band, that will never be repeated ever. If you somehow managed to read all my babbling - thank you for all that you do, you listened to tons of good bands I'd have recommended if I weren't lazy commenting so far (tool, deftones, clowncore, igorrr, sikth, karnivool)
Some new ones I'd recommend are: - the absolute magnum opus track of Igorrr that's "Tout Petit Moineaux"; - wildly "underknown" progressive metal band from Brazil called Dynahead; - avantgarde/blackish metal band called Virus - progmetal band Protest The Hero; - post-hardcore-ish bands like Enter Shikari, Rolo Tomassi, At the Drive-In (oh and some more of The Mars Volta on that note), The Fall of Troy; - really eclectic indie band Animal Collective; - Louis Cole - solo work of drummer and keyboard player of clowncore - also one half of the amazing Knower (it's pop, jazz, funk, electronic, and anything they feel like doing); - Laszlo - really tasteful solo work of producer/composer/Lydian Collective member Aaron Wheeler; - anything from the album called Szamár Madár by Venetian Snares - this album is truly something else, if you dug the electronic, more drum-heavy breakcore-ish side of Igorrr mixed with some classical music, there's a chance you will think it's amazing, its emotional intensity is something that few other albums can match; - Colin Stetson - saxophone player whose music truly has to be experienced, because words couldn't do justice it... once I had a pretty abstract vision in my head after listening to one of his tracks and I saw someone in the comments painting that very exact picture I had just imagined...he's definitely "3rd eye purple level" as You would say:D Sorry for the wall of text and avalanche of artists, but here's some more totally random interesting bands/artists worth checking out but I don't have the patience anymore to categorise: Sigúr Rós, múm, christ., Boards of Canada, Plaid, Throwing Snow, Son Lux, Burial, Baths; black midi, Hella, Don Caballero, Battles, BadBadNotGood, Sampha, Flying Lotus, Yussef Kamaal - many of these are probably outside of the scope of the previous listens on your channel but not that far from some, and it always seemed like You are someone who is willing to *spiral out* and experience new stuff so I thought, I'll just leave it here, who knows :)) I'll probably leave some of these as recommendations in future videos where there's a relevant/similar artist so it's not gonna be just an incoherent dump of artists, and it will be easier to associate them then:)
One of my favorite bands. In my opinion, his best bass playing comes from one of their earliest songs as a band call Skies of the Millennium Night. You should check that out

Agreed! YOU are what makes people coming back! As a musician, Honestly you are a necessity every day. Plus you introduce me to incredible and new bands all the time. I can't thank you enough! BTW keep that beard the same but thicker like you had it. Lol. You're my favorite thing to watch. I'm still here!
Wow Jordan - that was a super cool and humbling comment - thank you!

Oft love sikth. I'm all over this when I get home from work
i'm so happy i had a dig into your videos and found someone reacting to sikth. skies of millennium night by them has one of my favourite song endings of all time
Holy Quacamole!
I was hoping for a Sikth video since I found this channel, so happy!
3 albums and 3 ep's
One of my all time favorite bands of all time 🤘🏻🤘🏻
still here sir. sikth are an interesting group and its awesome to see you tackle one of their tracks. keep up the great work and I hope you enjoyed your surf sess!
I have been listening to sikth for around 20 years. Nothing compares to them they are just mind blowing.
that moment where he etalked about it never changing tempo on the drumbeat... all praise dan "the loord" foord
Sikth 'How may I help you' was an MTV favorite video for me back in the day!! Awesome band from my home town. :)
Should stop being surprised at what you react to but this made me smile. Kid brother got me into these with "The Trees...", amazing band. 🤟🏻✌🏻 I'm still here 😎
Love Sikth! Thanks for doing this. Would love to see you react to another djent band named Vildhjarta!!
(Hope that cough gets better!) Mahalo!
Massively underrated band IMO
Dude Sikth!!!! Hands down best reaction channel. Finally some love for other bands that deserve it
Filling up my spotify relentlessly! How have i not heard of these guys?
I can't imagine how you've never heard of SikTh, but you're going to have some more digging to do. Might like the bands Maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot as well.
dude hit their earlier stuff...welcome to the winners circle haha
They were really big in the British underground/prog metal scene, but they never really made the jump to popularity in the US unless you were really plugged into the extreme metal scene. Their first album came out way back in 2003, and I can only imagine it was really out there for the time, compared to other artists in the related genres.
@@bknight3391 yep and then went on hiatus for 10 years! They did a bunch of gigs in the last few years but I don’t know if we’ll see them perform live again :(
@@mackie1001 Last I heard Pin wasn't in the band any longer as well. I haven't heard anything about Aliases either lately, but then again I was never really keeping track of them.
As soon as you said singer that could change gears on a dime I thought of Darroh from Fair to Midland. I would love to hear your thoughts on them.
Very underrated band that I would love to see some reactions on; good call!
Fell in love with Sikth the second I heard them in the early 2000s. Still listen to them regularly.
Reallllly great song choice, f'cking great!
Love this song! Comes from my favorite EP
Love Geebs and the tunes💜Pink Floyd is in my opinion the greatest band of ALL time😎🙏
Hey I heard this yesterday for the first time! Great song. I really need to listen to more from them.
Yeah you do!
OUUUUHHHH new band to listen to now!
Suggestions:
Unexpect - The Quantum Symphony
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Vodoo Mon Amour
Beyond Creation - Omnipresent Perception
Borknagar - Up North
Black Crown Initiate - Invitation
Native Construct - Mute
Unexpect!
Oh man he HAS to cover Native Construct, would be amazing if he did Slice the Cake and Cyborg Octopus as well
@@Tynon1221 Fuck I had forgotten about Cyborg Octopus!
First time hearing these guys! Def gonna look into them more. Thanks Geebz bring on the Byz!
Saw these at a tiny festival in Uxbridge, London, England.. They were unreal. My bro went to college with the lead singer.. Great talent. So so so underated 🥁
Absolutely loved it.
have you listened to Dillinger Escape Plan yet? some crazy math metal thats still too much for me at times.
Calculating infinity is still possibly the absolute most insane album I've ever heard
@@adamgattis3749 Try listening to Pryapisme 😁
@@progperljungman8218 I'm not sure if I should be concerned but I'll definitely listen! 😂
Sikth are just so amazing. They influenced a ton of modern Djent bands back in the day. "Scent of the Obscene" is one of my faves from them. The bass slap solo at the beginning will prolly make your elbow itchy haha
Brought my first cup of coffee. Thank you for the awesome content.Nga mihi aroh ( warm regards)
Dude your great. Please keep it going brother. Love the channel
I really think you would dig the eclectic nature of the band. Try Twelve Foot Ninja - Coming For You.
Or "Mother Sky"!
He already did TFN - One hand killing: th-cam.com/video/BpHNJfGbbRg/w-d-xo.html
@@TheMik29 Thanks Nice
more between the buried and me!! love hearing your thoughts on music as "high level" as that
Yes!!! I loooooove this❤️ Aloha from Norway🤘🤘
So, found your channel tonight and have watched 6 reaction vids already. I love music, from slipknot to the carpenters but can't play any instruments so to get hear technical breakdowns of MY music is awesome. You rule. Simple.
Hey Geebz, ALOHA! That's again for all the content
Your videos are perfect and the more the merrier!
You need to react to some Jacob Collier!!! Hideaway is a masterpiece and Saviour has a groove like you've never heard!! He writes/arranges everything himself and plays all the instruments AND sings all the parts, absolute prodigy!
I’ve heard some very cool things about him. I second this!
‘Home is’ is such an amazing song. I’d love for ANYONE to react to that lol
Gaw-lee! Saviour sure is excellent, thanks for the tip!
@@Tynon1221 Saviour is the first song that really got me into Jacob, he's absolutely phenomenal!
@@tererai7936 Home is and Moon River, those vocal parts are mind blowing. He showed the score for moon river in a master class and there were like 15 note chords lol
Man, I haven't heard Sikth in a while. Going to have to go back into their Playlist!
No such thing as too much. You're awesome man, keep it up!
Wait what? On of the few who actually reacts to Sikth? Thank you, good sir! Truly appreciated, for I absolutely love this band
Stoort neer is an amazing instrumental project from the members of vildharjata.. excellent arrangements and production
Would be awesome to see you have a listen
You really are deeving dipe with all these uploads :D
Literally wearing my Sikth shirt today and this arrives. It’s kismet!
Yay you did SikTh 👍🏻 Awesome local band and very much pioneers. Tesseract and Porcupine Tree hail from the same neck of the woods.
Look into VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theatre). One man band. Jon Crosby is the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of this band.
YES!!!! Thank you!
Geebzy, time to start a weekly live stream react.
First of all, I want to say *THANK YOU*! Wanted to write a comment about and absolutely recommend Sikth since they are such a unique and hugely underrated band in my opinion! Just some pointers if you ever come back to Sikth - which I really hope you do:
- Songs worth checking and/or showcasing their unique sikthy sound: Bland Street Bloom, As The Earth Spins Round, When The Moment's Gone, Another Sinking Ship, In This Light, Wait for Something Wild, Skies of the Millenium Light, Pussyfoot, Behind the Doors, Walking Shadows, Days are Dreamed, Suffice, (If You Weren't So) Perfect
- Some people would say they are one of the originators of the "djent" sound along with Meshuggah that's so prevalent in today's progressive metal scene. While I love me some djenting, I kinda feel it has become a formula for today's progmetal bands, while Sikth was always progressive in the true sense of the word.
- They are pretty talented, creative and multifaceted people: Most of the guys are also teachers of their respective instruments, or vocal coach in Mikee W. Goodman's case;
Justin Hill - the guy with the higher singing and screaming voice, Mikee W. Goodman - the other singer with the crazy voices, and Dan Weller their ?lead? guitarist are also producers. The amazingly produced and pretty interesting Enter Shikari album "Flash Flood of Colour" was produced entirely by Dan Weller;
This videoclip is pretty much entirely the work of their singer Mikee, he has also produced their first videoclip called "May I Help You?".
Some new ones I'd recommend are:
- the absolute magnum opus track of Igorrr that's "Tout Petit Moineaux";
- wildly "underknown" progressive metal band from Brazil called Dynahead;
- avantgarde/blackish metal band called Virus
- progmetal band Protest The Hero;
- post-hardcore-ish bands like Enter Shikari, Rolo Tomassi, At the Drive-In (oh and some more of The Mars Volta on that note), The Fall of Troy;
- really eclectic indie band Animal Collective;
- Louis Cole - solo work of drummer and keyboard player of clowncore - also one half of the amazing Knower (it's pop, jazz, funk, electronic, and anything they feel like doing);
- Laszlo - really tasteful solo work of producer/composer/Lydian Collective member Aaron Wheeler;
- anything from the album called Szamár Madár by Venetian Snares - this album is truly something else, if you dug the electronic, more drum-heavy breakcore-ish side of Igorrr mixed with some classical music, there's a chance you will think it's amazing, its emotional intensity is something that few other albums can match;
- Colin Stetson - saxophone player whose music truly has to be experienced, because words couldn't do justice it... once I had a pretty abstract vision in my head after listening to one of his tracks and I saw someone in the comments painting that very exact picture I had just imagined...he's definitely "3rd eye purple level" as You would say:D
Sorry for the wall of text and avalanche of artists, but here's some more totally random interesting bands/artists worth checking out but I don't have the patience anymore to categorise: Sigúr Rós, múm, christ., Boards of Canada, Plaid, Throwing Snow, Son Lux, Burial, Baths; black midi, Hella, Don Caballero, Battles, BadBadNotGood, Sampha, Flying Lotus, Yussef Kamaal - many of these are probably outside of the scope of the previous listens on your channel but not that far from some, and it always seemed like You are someone who is willing to *spiral out* and experience new stuff so I thought, I'll just leave it here, who knows :)) I'll probably leave some of these as recommendations in future videos where there's a relevant/similar artist so it's not gonna be just an incoherent dump of artists, and it will be easier to associate them then:)
I'm still here! Go to the top of the search results!
Looove SikTh!
you should check out Dillinger escape plan - Farewell, Mona Lisa :)
Sikth is an awesome band... Great choice 👍🏼
One of my favorite bands. In my opinion, his best bass playing comes from one of their earliest songs as a band call Skies of the Millennium Night. You should check that out
I hope this is on "the list". VOLA - HEAD MOUNTED SIDEWAYS
2nded, or "Stray the Skies"
Yes to Vola! Such an incredible band live as well.
Hey, I have the same shirt! Probably my favorite one too just because of how comfortable it is, definite 10/10 shirt. Oh yeah, and I guess Sikth is cool too. But mostly that shirt.
Before lockdown my band rehearsed @ the same place as Sikth! If only we were a tenth as good.
I'm ALWAYS still here.
