      History is great but public schools shouldn’t be biased in anyway regarding what is or isn’t taught. Nothing is going to socially achieved following the media narratives

    • @brendancripps8890
      @brendancripps8890 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JB-vt5sz I’ve been teaching for 20 years, and I can tell you, this isn’t “following media” it’s teaching a more complete story of the American experience. Honestly, as someone who, until about ten years ago, was a “traditional” history teacher (meaning the history we’d all been taught) adding in all these stories makes the greater American story much broader and more complete. For example, ten years ago, I was considered “cutting edge” for teaching about Alice Paul, this year, my class has added in Ida B Wells in our study of the passage of the 19th Amendment. To give a more complete understanding of American history.

      It is a very good show. And very accurate. One reason her family disapproved was because the truth came out that she didn't create the formula herself though she wanted everyone to believe she did. She improved on something that was already out there that was created by another black woman.

    Not to in anyway take away from the story of a very gutsy lady ,the woman acting out that skit said lye soap is bad for your skin. Granted it is not as everyday as it was in that era and before. But lye soap is very effective in cleaning,not only clothes and household surfaces but you can wash a baby in it. The lye is neutralized in the saponification process. It has also been making a comeback. I like it. I had heard of Mrs. Walker before and a very inspiring woman. She had a great need and an idea of how to make something people wanted. That makes money. She did well.

    JD, Great job as always! This is the sort of Black success story that should be promoted with fervor during Black History Month. Ms. Walker worked WITHIN the White dominated US Capitalist system and succeeded through her own hardwork and determination. Hurrah for her! She didn't use violence rather her own sweat, toil and clearly high intelligence to succeed. She is the sort of person we should hold up as an example for all of Americans, Black and White, for her perseverance despite so many hurdles!
    I took away a lesson for all who blame the "system" for their lack of success and a role model for dreamers who will not allow their dreams to be defeated by self-pity. This is a story for all people, regardless of color, gender, education!

    My grandfather was an indenture servant. Taken to Canada from his parents home in England at the age of 9. Married and had 4 kids, loss his son, and wife and left 3 daughters to raise. He worked for Henry Ford at his Highland Park plant until he retired. My Grandfather always told us your life is what you make it. Don't let fear stop you, and if you work hard you can make anything happen. Madam C.J. Walker didn't let fear stop her, she knew what she wanted and worked for it. I had an amazing Grandfather and she was an amazing women.

    Excellent and the reason why I like it so much is because I worked with Black people and they were wonderful and very poorly poorly abused because just because of the color of their skin. It’s so shameful to think what they went through.

    A few things you left out...she stole hair products from one of her washing client, to sell on the streets, to prove she could. When the washing client told her that she wasn't going to hire her, CJ stole her product idea, and made it her own. She even used stolen product to perfect the recipe.

    Fabulous story, I love to see an “underdog” survive and thrive, she didn’t do it alone, she needed employees to help make her a millionaire. We all need each other and we need to treat others with kindness and compassion, especially the less fortunate. We are #StrongerTogether. After she made it with the help of her employees, she didn’t pull that ladder up behind her, she helped others become successful. What a wonderful story, very inspirational.

    We've all got the stamina to tolerate people whom put us down and attempt to prohibit our success. Race has nothing to do with it. You have too not listen to people whom put you down and move on without them. The sense in change is her determination. Amen to Homeland Fighting for your right to succeed Women.

    I think you may need to study a little more about reconstruction. Among other things, a lot of black former slaves got elected to Congress.

    The school had a great lockdown procedure but maybe schools can have panic rooms or something like it in all the hallways so kids caught in the halls or bathrooms when their classrooms lock have somewhere to go.
