Most reviewers tend to go for the larger device (although to be fair the larger device is usually more powerful).

Yes, the reviewers, and the manufacturers are sizing their phones up, like everyone wants to carry a smaller sized television.
While there is a significant section of the population aren't happy about the larger devices. The optimal size should be what the iphones used to be, or for example, the LG G6 or the Galaxy S8/sS9 non-plus.

    Dear Pixel 3
As I type this, I can't help but feel a twinge of sadness. You're approaching your final stages, about to take that last charge and bid farewell to the waking world. I'm grateful for the moments we've shared.
The memories you've faithfully captured will remain timeless, etched in the digital tapestry of my life. Your compact size made it effortless to cradle you with just one hand, a comfort that will be missed. Goodbye, dear Pixel 3. You've been a reliable companion, and your pixelated legacy will linger on.
Farewell my dear friend. You will be dearly missed.
    Love

The whole *point* of gestures is to remove the navigation bar for more immersive screen on these near bezelles phones. Google somehow managed to fail at understanding this concept...
Just adopt the iphone X gestures if you cant figure anything by yourself, but that navigation bar has to go away. We went a step back here, gestures *and* nav bar. Great job Google..

The Price is different for all places in the world, the only notable thing that kept me from buying a Pixel here in the Philippines, is the price. Its not $800 like in the United States, but more like $1200 in the Philippines. For that much money, even if I really like to have that phone as my daily driver for the next 3 years, I just couldn't.
BTW. The iPhone XS here starts at $1250 and the top of the range XS Max with 512GB is almost $2000.

I bought the Pixel3 with the Black Friday Sale...for the most part I am loving it. A few items of concern I keep noticing.
    1) The Google Assistant will sometimes not ‘continue’ properly. Meaning that you ask it to text so-and-so the name appears, but, the mike never opens to show it is listening again.
    2) Bluetooth devices stop working/connecting to the phone.
(Both of these seem to be remedied with a phone restart)
    3) The wider angle front facing camera distorts the image significantly if you are only using your arm/hand. I wonder if it would look better on a selfie stick?

I don't see how the price is justifiable against the Galaxy S9. The Pixel 3 is clearly not aimed at the tech enthusiast so if it aims for the average consumer, why would they pay more for a remarkably similar experience to that of the cheaper and better spec'd Galaxy S9?

Agree with everything in your review, thanks for that!! The camera just blows me away, makes me much more aware of taking pictures in my daily life, and I am always 1000% pleased with the way they are coming out. Love the build with the glass back, it feels so simple and premium. NOT a fan of the gestures as well. I wish they would have given more options like OnePlus did with the 6 when they rolled out Pie. You can hide the buttons, have all three, or just use 2. And, with Nova Launcher, you can use gestures to swipe up anywhere on the home screen for the app drawer...it just seemed much more fluid. But, I am anxious to see how things morph when Google starts pushing out updates. And I agree, battery life is ok, but definitely thought it would be better...

Right now, all I've got is:
Take the Motorola approach with the pill, with no back button
Use Motorola style gestures - tap for home screen, swipe left to go back, swipe right for recent apps
Except I really like swiping right to switch between recent apps on the Pixel so maybe a downwards swipe to trigger that action?

Free full size photo and video storage in Google photos.
    Cons:
The speakers sound bad. Distortion. Vibrates the phone.
    The microphone is terrible.

    Hideous notch
Fingerprint sensor on the back. I think it's an inconvenient location.

Purchased a Pixel 3 XL(will be referred as P3XL) and have been using it ever since.
    1. Screen brightness is OK under direct sunlight, but nowhere near iPhone Xs Max or Note 9.
    2. LTE speed and signal strength are fine, but in an environment with weaker signal, P3XL kicks itself into 3G/H/H+ mode too easily and prohibits me from making a regular phone call. I have no issue with P2XL, Note 8/9, iPhone X/Xs Max under this circumstance. By the way, I'm using T-mobile Band 2/4/12 in southern California.
    3. WiFi speed is fine, but signal strength(especially on 5GHz) is slightly weaker. In addition, when an app(facebook, Chrome, Google News, even Amazon) is trying to use WiFi connection, it feels like "pausing" itself for a brief moment before it actually connects.

When I updated to Pie on my 2XL I had the same problem with my screen brightness. My battery suffered because I always had it on the brightest setting. I have never used Auto brightness on any of my phones. Then I read that Google changed something to the brightness algorithm. I switched on adaptive brightness and saw Google's machine learning get to work. The first few days to a week it was all about learning for Google. With each day, i had to fiddle less and less with the brightness slider. Today I rarely touch it and my good battery life has returned. Did you use adaptive brightness on your Pixel?

I mostly tend to agree with your reviews but this one not so much.
Even if we use the assumption that the average customer doesn't really care about all those crazy features from companies like Samsung, Pixel 3 even fails in basic tasks.
Pixel 3 has horrible quality control and over the past week it was pretty much constant defects after defects and I'm sure nobody would want to put up with that.
Lack of a headphone jack also adds unnecessarily complications for anyone who just wants to plug their headphones and play instead of having to deal with dongles and other annoying stuff.
Pixel 3 even falls short in video by having a really bad mic and also lacks of 4K 60fps which everyone else has (4K may not be sth most people care about but come on this is supposed to be a camera based phone).
All of this combined with a very high price tag make overall Pixel 3 and 3 XL really bad phones.

Michael, great review video. Here's my story: I'm old school in that I buy a new cell phone once every four or five years, so I've never been one to care about having the latest and greatest all the time. I need my phone to do the things that I have to do, like make phone calls, text, check email, play a game, and once in a great while check something on the internet. It needs to be a serviceable, easy-to-use phone and doesn't need to perform at the highest levels the way I want my desktop computer to perform. Since that's where I'm coming from as a buyer, the Pixel 3 easily meets my needs and I've been very happy with it since buying it two days ago. I actually bought the Samsung S9 when my old Motorola Droid finally died on me, and while I think the S9 is a good phone I took it back and exchanged it for the Pixel 3 for two reasons: the much better camera and the clean android experience with no bloatware. Do I wish it had more RAM? More customization of icons or themes? Sure, some of those things would be nice but its snappy enough and does what I need it to do, and as a serious photography hobbyist I love the camera, so I'm very pleased with the phone so far. I actually find it kind of amusing to see people making a big deal out of where a little icon is on the home screen, or that something isn't perfectly symmetrical. But if that's what people want to obsess over then more power to them, we each like what we like, I guess.

The Pixel 3 and its larger sibling is such a disappointment.
There is absolutely nothing that sets it apart from the competition, especially with all the great devices we get from Chinese OEMs as of late.
Yes, the camera is great, but it's not wildly better this year than what other flagship devices are packing.
The notch on the XL variant is horrendous, the white space philosophy of Google is the exact opposite of what you would like to see on an OLED display (the implementation of dark mode is sadly subpar and inconsistent), and with Google pushing other OEMs to pursue Android skins closer and closer to stock, it beats the purpose of having a Pixel device.
Also, flagship phones these days are so quick and snappy, so the speed benefits of a Pixel device are mostly left unnoticeable.

    • @elimalinsky7069
      @elimalinsky7069 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@Patrick i do agree that the notch is subjective, but I just can't understand how come the notch even came to be realized as a justified way of eliminating bezels. By eliminating bezels, what you essentially do is introduce a new problem that is far more distracting than the problem you tried to solve to begin with.
I wonder how phones would have looked like in 2018 if Apple had not introduced a design with a notch for the iPhone X in late 2017.

    • @cosmingosav
      @cosmingosav 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@Patrick All the pixel controversy aside, I have nothing against the pixel lineup. I know i am not the target audience for that and i can respect other people who are. But when I am paying top dollar for a piece of tech like that, I don't want to "get used" to a design which is arguably the shittiest in the industry at this moment. Poor design is not an excuse. UX design rant: Gesture navigation is only better if it is more efficient and intuitive. Android 9 nav _seems_ less efficient than the three button setup it advanced from. You make a great point about Moto's gesture nav because it incorporates gestures without compromising efficiency and familiarity. This all has to do with how you navigate through the devices user experience which is a big deal and thus, a big compromise. You interact with this more than anything. Let's hope Google continues to develop this... and at a faster rate since it seems to not have changed much since it's debut last Spring.

It only shows "Photo" and "Video" Finally, the only resolution setting I can change is 4k ON or OFF..... Do you have any answers? I bought the phone for its camera and storage solutions but now I can't record more than 30 minutes without it running out of memory even right after I clear the storage. Do you have any answers?
