    • @Damsoncloud

      Hi Tina,
      I assume you are talking about the Obi Wifi 5G unit for giving wifi connectivity to an Obi200 or 300 devices. In this case, you would not need the ethernet cable as the device is getting internet via the wifi dongle. You would also need the MAC address of the Obi 200 or 300 devices, not the MAC address of the dongle.

      Please note I have never tested any of these devices myself and officially they are not supported by Google for Google Voice for Business. The only approved devices for Google Voice Business are listed here:

    how do i reduce the number of rings before my Google Voice number picks up

  • @Uptownlegend85
    @Uptownlegend85 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Now as far as incoming calls from Google Voice on a mobile device the calls are automatically forwarded to your regular phone number which makes things extremely difficult when it comes to handling business calls because there's no way to differentiate between a personal or work call. Can definitely get frustrating.

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For the Google voice business this is not the case unless you associate a mobile number with you google voice account and have forwarding on. I use the google voice app which is separate from my mobile calls and it’s obvious with the ring groups that it’s a business call coming in. It actually tells me which of our phone numbers the person has dialled.
      - Fintan

    • @dhr8687
      @dhr8687 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can save the gv# in your phone as contact name Google Voice. Then incoming calls from that number will reflect that and you'll know it is a business call. You just will not be able to know specifically what business associate it is.

    How well will Google voice work for small to medium sized businesses to allow for multiple callers to be answered by multiple individuals simultaneously (mixture of ipads and also desktop poly phones and personal cell phones?) In order to not lose any callers. Also in terms of google workspace, other than separate cloud storage, what extra features exactly does having google workspace add to the google voice?

    I'm considering moving my small church to this as we're already using Google Workspace. We have one admin who answers and forwards calls during the day do you think this is a good solution? How have you liked the poly phone as we would look at getting 3 of them but online I've seen mixed reviews. Like the phone loses a lot of its native features and voice mail doesn't work nor does loading contact directory from Google. Has any of this been fixed/updated? Does it seem like a product Google is behind and updating (speaking to the Poly phone integration)? I know that's a lot but I haven't found many people out there talking about it. Thanks, great video by the way.

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Justin, thanks for your question. At Damson we haven’t had connection issues with the poly phone. They are standard Voip phones from Polycom so are high quality.
      In terms of contract syncing, what I have realised is that if I save a number to my google contacts, if I get a missed call from that person then both their name and number will appear on the phone. We are doing some testing on the phone and will get back to you with our results soon. Hope this helps!

    Hi, very interested in using this for my small business. How does it compare to other VOIP providers? I wasn't aware this was possible to use in UK, from what I have read it's $10 monthly for up to 10 user (starter pack), and then you get charged for voice calls on top of this? Is that cost effective compared to other VOIP packages with included minutes? I would love to know what your typical use case is and how much you are being billed monthy. Thanks.

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is available in the UK and it is a great option for small businesses. I would recommend taking a look at the call rates and one of your previous bills from another provider to compare what a typical month might cost. Google does not have any included minutes though calls to the US and Canada are free. Our customers typically find it very cost-effective as Google's rates are so low.

      This sounds like you have added your own phone multiple times or have a lot of android devices with your google account on it. I would suggest removing all but one to see if that works. You may have to remove all of them and delete the Google voice app from your phone and reinstall it then sign in and only one Android phone should appear.

    Great video, I subscribed as well. Two questions, first, I’m assuming this would only work on a paid Google G suite account and not on a personal Gmail Google voice account? Second, the phone you demonstrated, is this a special phone that works with Google voice - or can I take my old VOIP phone from another vOIP provider and just by plugging in the MAC address get it provisioned?

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vic
      Yes you are correct that this only works with Google Workspace accounts (G Suite). I have a Poly phone which is designed to work with google voice. They have a list of their compatible phones on their website. They purchased a company called Obi Technologies and its their tech that allows the integration with google voice. Its possible that if you have an old OBI VOIP phone or device that it could work with google voice for business but there is no guarantee.

    I'm a bit confused. You commented that you don't want to forward your GV number to your cell phone, but in the settings of the GV app on your phone it shows 3 devices under call forwarding. During the set up, there is some talk about how to "Link" the GV number to a cell phone. Despite extensive reading and watching of TH-cam videos, I can't really figure out what that means. Do I have to "Link" it? What does linking do? What happens if I don't? I thought that when I install the GV app on my smart phone, that an incoming call on that number would "ring" inside the GV app and I could answer it that way. Same with outgoing calls. I want to make and receive calls on my smart phone device, but I want them to be separate from my personal number so I was intending not to "Link", but when I set it up that way, calls don't make any ringing notification in the app on my smart phone. I guess I don't really understand it. I would greatly appreciate any help!

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, thanks for the question. If you want to receive calls, in Google Voice settings, under calls, make sure that all the devices that you want to receive the calls on are checked. Companies may charge you to port your number, but you can ask whether any fees can be waived or negotiated. Once you request service from a new company, your old company cannot refuse to port your number, even if you owe money for an outstanding balance or termination fee.

      Hi Mark, Poly have a set of phones that are compatible with Google Voice you can read about them here www.poly.com/us/en/solutions/platform/google
      I am not sure what you mean about setting up an analog phone but not on the business version. Do you mean on the Google Voice consumer product available in the US? If so the Obi talk adapter might be of interest to you

      @@Damsoncloud I have the Obi adapter and ordered a Polycom SoundPoint IP 331 PoE to go with it. But the obi only has an RJ11 jack not RJ45, and I also discovered that you can't use just any IP phone with the consumer version of Google Voice. I simply don't have the budget nor business volume to justify the paid Google VOIP accounts, but like the features of a digital phone. I have an analog phone I can plug in just to get the Obi running, so my question centers around getting an IP phone that will work with consumer grade (free) Google Voice. Thanks for your video. It was a good demonstration of home office telephony.

      You transfer them to a number technically. When you hit transfer the users come up onscreen so you can easily select someone and transfer the call.

      I would take a look at the settings in your google voice app on your phone and online. You can associate a mobile or cell number with you google voice account. If you detached this it would probably fix the issue you are having.

      Are you on a regular account or Google Workspace account? Regular Gmail accounts cannot be used to sign in to admin.google.com" If you get this error when signing in to your Admin console, you're trying to sign in with a personal Gmail address (ends in @gmail.com) or an account that's not a managed Google Account.
      On a Workspace account, only admins can access the google admin page.

    No body tell you that you can only comunicate with people that has the same system, it wont work as a regular phone system.
    There's no such thing of free busines phone number. I just went to the process of getting a business number, first you have to sign for a google workspace and get a business email address, that's about $12. a month, plus the phone service that's another $12. to $20. a Month depending of the type of account you choose... They don't explain that in the process, in the end. It is easier and cheaper to get a phone service from your internet provider.

    • @Damsoncloud
      @Damsoncloud  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can communicate with people from any phone system - Google voice acts as a regular telephony service. For constant international calls from a business, this is a great solution.

      Hi Cris, this video is focused on Google voice devices. It is also the Google voice business system we are talking about not Google voice consumer edition. You require a Google workspace account and then you can add Google voice as an add on. If you are a business I would recommend you reach out to a local Google partner in your area.
