One of the benefits of Google Voice is the option of selecting a number. You can search by your area and select the area code for your phone number that matches your cellphone area code.
You can sign up for Google Voice and claim your phone number on the web, Android app, or iOS app for iPhones.

I am moving abroad and I understand that you need to port the number BEFORE YOU LEAVE the USA. However, I do not yet have phone service/number in the country that I will be moving to. How does one go about porting their number if they haven’t yet established a new number in the country abroad to connect it to?

Thanks for a great tutorial. I still have one question. When you make a call with Google Voice, I assume the person sees you Caller ID. Is this your phone number or does it include your name? If it shows a name, do you have control over what name it shows? Thanks in advance for answering my question

If you try to call from outside the USA to the USA You get charged your long distance rate- If somebody from the USA calls You when You are outside the USA it doesn't charge the Google Voice number owner

I need the Google Voice number to show while making outgoing calls using Google Voice on android 10. It still shows my carrier number when making outgoing calls and I’m not getting any pop-up to select which number shows when placing the calls. I am placing the calls through the Google Voice app. I already selected the option to select number before each call. It just goes automatically to my phone’s regular calling app. I do not want to show anonymous. I need to show the google number when placing outgoing calls from the Google Voice app. Thanks

Heyhey- just had a quick question for you..can you please tell me how the google voice number is issued? Is it per person or per email account or per other personal detials ? The reason i am asking is to find out if a person can have a second stand alone google voice number for free. if not then can i set up a second GV number by using my husbands details? It really doesnt matter in which name it is under, so long as we can have two google voice numbers, so basically asking how we can achieve this. Thanks

Thanks for this great video. I am aware the video is old, but I would like to know how Google Voice handles service compatibilities with different network types. For example, how would my Google Personal Voice service handle calls to and from other networks including landline & mobile as well as Voice over IP (VoIP) services such as WhatsApp and similar applications? I am particularly interested in how the communication data is carried and paid for. You have mentioned using a different carrier, but that was not very clear to me, so if you can explain a bit more.

This was very helpful! If I call a landline from my desktop, will the person I'm calling be able to see my name as well or just my number? I don't really have a preference, but I want to know if I should assume they'll know it's me or not lol.
I tried this, for me it just shows the city and state of the area code I'm in, of course, with my Google number.

What if it doesn’t work, because I put my phone number to verify it but it says it can’t be used to sign up for a google voice number.
My speakers and ringing stopped working in Google Voice. I'm puzzled because my speakers work everywhere else, I make phone calls from a dialer and it works fine.

"verifying" your phone number just gives Google tracking and linking to you for collecting/selling data on you.
If this is for beginners, right at the top you could mention that you can only get USA phone numbers.

I live outside of the U.S. and set up a Google Voice number while I was recently visiting family there. I am unable to get that number to send emails or forward calls to my phone outside of the country. It appears that I needed to set all that up while in the U.S. but I didn't realize that at the time. I can access my account via my laptop but when I try to use the Voicemail app on my iPhone it tells me that Google Voice is not available in my country! Is there a way to get the number that I registered in the U.S. to a temporary SIM I was using during my trip, and access the settings so that calls to that number will show up in my email or voicemail outside the U.S.?
