Oh my goodness! This the most clear and comprehensive video I have found about semicolons; for instance, you show every possible way to write something, the examples are real life and usable, and it's not even boring. Ha! I'm already using my new knowledge :-)
"Use a semicolon to show a relationship. Use a colon to introduce a list or define something clearly. " On your last example, I could make an argument that either a colon or a semicolon would work based on your rule. I appreciate the effort though and I know it's not an easy thing to teach in a 16 minute lesson. I checked out your website and I can see you put a ton of work into it. Going to peruse it now. :)
Great video, Adam! This stuff is really not simple, and then, when the dash jumps in, it gets even more complicated. Especially, in places where you simply want to slightly pause the flow of the sentence without breaking it apart. If anyone's interested in further material on punctuation and elegant writing in general, I'd suggest William Strunk and E.B. White's The Elements of Style. A classic. Might come in handy even for non-native speakers/writers, btw.
What a great teacher....something kind of hard to understand looks so easy when Adam explain it....god bless you Teacher....you are the best...ud es el mejor
I'm half way though my 20's, and this is new information to me. English is FUCKING DIFFICULT TO MASTER! I'm glad I took the time to learn. You are a great teacher. I wish, I had someone with your skill/understanding, to give me a better education sooner.
sir thanks for giving such a great lecture .making us understand about the difficult things.these looked very complicated but, after listing of your I have understood.
bro, I am an advanced learner and I am telling you, this is great. If there is a point for improvement, I would say that putting a summary ate the end that says ( to use semicolon, there is this and that; to use a colon there is that).
Hello Sir, I have a question concerning the part of your video that starts at 11:03. Would it be acceptable and correct if you cross out the last comma from the sentence and leave it as "... including A, B and C."? Or is it a must that you must put a comma, even though you're going to enumerate the last element (in that case - "C")?
Adam, could you please explain why the following use of the semi colon is correct. Subject + verb; for example, a,b, or c. You give this structure in the video- I would think you need a full clause after the semicolon.
Sir my question is if we need to ensure parallelism while using semi colons to separate list or not? Since here, the sentences are not in parallelism in the example at 7:07
Awesome teacher, and great lesson. I would make tons of punctuation mistakes; especially that I had no clue about the difference between a colon and a semicolon. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
thank you for this nice video. I have a question related to a sentence that you presented at 11:56 (second example). would you have been able to use semicolons to connect the explanation, while using a colone to set the expectation at the beginning of the sentence?
This video was very helpful for understanding these two commonly confused punctuations; however, I don't understand why in the sentence at 6:17 a comma is used before the clause 'as we are open 24/7'. As far as I know the last 2 clauses 'and they may visit...24/7' make a complex sentence in which a comma should not be used if the dependent clause 'as we are open 24/7' follows the independent clause. Can you please explain why comma has been used before 'as'. My knowledge is very limited.
thank you adam . I would like to ask you about when to use was or were in a sentence which have confuse nouns like government or environment as well as has and have , i would really appreciated
Hi Adam, Greetings, May you please explain the difference between using the comma in the following two forms or whichever is correct because I noticed that the either used and cannot know when to use which of them: 1. Apple, banana, orange and strawberry. 2. Apple, banana, orange, and strawberry. Sincerely, Ahmad,
I have just subscribed your channel, but I'm an old subscriber of your EngVid channel. I really appreciate all your informative videos. Thanks from Egypt.
Sir please explain how to use colon and semicolon in the same sentence for a full length essay's thesis statement to mention paragraph and sub-paragraphs.
Hi Adam. I have a question from previous videos, but concerning punctuation marks: why dont you put a period when listing some points in a certain explanation? Is that incorrect?
Hi Adam, it is really helpful for me. One quick question: one of your slide - The connect was cancelled: not enough tickets were sold. After Colon - you did not use Capital letter - is it expected ? when to go for Capital letter post Colon. Please suggest me. Thanks in advance.
Dear Adam, could you please make more videos about punctuation?. It'd be useful to complete this lesson, i.e., commas, full stop and so on. Many thanks
