SHe is a founding father of Timor-Leste and a founder of the China-Timor-Leste friendship. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Wang Guan sat down with José Ramos-Horta, president of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, during his state visit to China from July 28 to 31. It was his first visit since he took office in 2022 and the first state visit to China by a Timor-Leste president since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2002. Ramos-Horta said he highly appreciates the great vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is looking forward to deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, remarking that he does not consider China a threat. "Quite the contrary," he insisted.

China and Chinese people take friendship very seriousness.. It connects the past to the present..And looking forward together for a brighter future.. Thats how China is bringing to the world, not wars and conflicts.

Ramos Horta was once asked by an Australian news reporter back in 1975 in Dili when he was only 25 years old, very young, very smart, and very intelligent person.
The reporter asked him, " Do you really think that Timor can be independent when you have Australian are there digging and looking for oil, the Japanese there, building hotels, and Indonesia just there over your border? Do you really think that Timor can be independent?
He replied, " The interdependence of the countries in the world it is a reality, it is not only small countries that are dependent on big powers but nowadays most of the countries are dependent of each other because of economic or military reasons so we can not run away from this reality".
That was his statement in 1975.
He proved it... today when you look at the world, it is infact the reality that we can not and would never can run away from this reality.
    Very smart statement indeed 👌 👍 👏

Just let the Hakka-Timorese lead East Timor. That fellow can very well be the next Lee Kuan Yew (a Hakka also) who shall turn Timor Leste to another economic miracle just like Singapore 😁.

I don't like making any comparisons between china and East Timorense leaders. But for me Chinese leaders work very hard how to develop and boost their economy meanwhile Timorense leaders talk too much about politic when they were elected. They like wasting millions of dollars for party, visiting foreign countries, attending international meeting which doesn't bring any benefit for ordinary citizens., increasing their income by making laws for their own benefit, committing mass corruption and abandoning their people in living under extreme poverty line . Chinese population is one billion more and Timor Leste population is just 1.3 million but Timorense leaders find difficult how to develop the economy of the country, creating jobs opportunities for young people and bring prosperity to the people. They just go around the world begging for help, lecturing other countries meanwhile in Eatd Timor itself everything is mess . It is shameful. The area they have been abandoning for twenty one years and never want to touch are tourism sector, agriculture , fishery and infrastructure. These sectors keep very important role to sustain and boots Timor's economy if oil and gas run out in one day. Their main focus is how to bring pipe line from greater sun rise field to East Timor. Billions of dollar has been wasted to build infrastructure for this project but so far there is no indication that pipe line will come to East Timor soon. The allocation of budget for agriculture, tourism, fishery above are very small.
Second comparison :. How can you create jobs and improve people's life if you ignore those sectors? Chinese gained its independence in the area where technology undeveloped. No smart phones, no computers and no Internet however their people studied and worked very hard in all sectors to develop their economy and bring prosperity for their own people. However Timor Leste gained its independence in the era of milinium. Technology is very sophisticated. Everything is easy but what you see, Timor Leste is still very undeveloped. So sad. What are the causes of all of these because the leaders are incompetent and live in luxury life above the suffering of poor people.
