Well , well , well Donu. What an interesting topic.
I was fascinated to hear Pollys experiences , on life in Nigeria as a spouse of a Nigerian man
I flew, from the 1970,to Lagos and Kano as a stewardess with British Caledonian airways, and then British Airways. I met my husband, who was a Ugandan Asian, in Zambia , so feel I could empathise with Polly, on so many facets.
I was married to my husband for 41 years. When he passed away, we lived in southern Spain , which is still my home .
I felt I could have sat at that table with you both today, and completely, understood and enjoyed chattering with you both.
I had a very happy marriage, snd am very united with my Indian side of the family.
. A very interesting topic today.
I felt as if I was sitting with family .
I met my husband in the late 7O,s.
We had a wonderful marriage, and I have the most beautiful daughter.
    Xxxxxx

Great conversation! I'm really enjoying your channel Donu and the different topics you bring to the table. I've always wondered myself how foreign women, settle and are able to cope in Nigeria which has very strong cultures. Yes the men can be extremely difficult.
Also I'm actually not surprised that your guest feels more hostility today than years ago as a white woman in Nigeria. I blame social media and how toxic the conversations around race have become.
Anyway, thank you for your interesting content. And kudos to your guest on her brilliant work as a painter and the various projects she has going with Nigerian women in the North. Bless!

I just stumbled on your channel and have quickly subbed. In the 80's as young 'beento' living in Nigeria, I used to love reading your weekly column in the Vanguard newspaper. It kept me connected with London. Thanks for creating your channel.❤

The phrase, “taking things in stride” comes to my mind after watching & processing this video. It seems that Nigerians are warm & accepting of anybody. That’s good to learn. America is at each other’s throats at the moment, mainly because of political corruption & intolerance!!!!
Donu, could you expand on Nigeria’s extended family members being more involved in nuclear family’s business? I found it interesting that Polly said her late husband took steps to protect her & their children from it.
My heart goes out to Polly, a lovely woman, for losing her husband so prematurely. I was widowed unexpectedly at 39 & spent the next 3 years in a fog of grief & mourning. I remarried at 43 & have been wonderfully happy with my 2nd husband, who was also widowed.
How did you become acquainted with each other, Donu?

In a way I'm not surprised she feels more hostility today than in the past. The '90s were much closer to the colonial era but media at the time was not banging on about it. I'm not in Nigeria but in the US the media talks a lot more about colonialism and about whites as inherently problematic. This message is human history would've been a utopia but for whites, also the present-day conservatism of whites is politically problematic. In the '90s those messages were not in the media at all.

    • @PoultryFarm08

Completely agree with you. I thought about too. The US media I would say has a lot of influence globally now and I think the racial divide is now so bad.

I hope you’d take an honest feedback:
This video could make an absolutely awesome video, if you had allowed her finish up her words, kept in sync with her explanations and commended her where appropriate. The places she mentioned what she was doing as an artist you didn’t show any sign of understanding what struggles it was for her finding a landing; you didn’t really commend her for any of the things she listed she had done/is doing……you were not humorous too for a video like this that needed light humours here and there
