LOL - I don't know if you're being sincere or pulling my leg, but if the video helped you then that's all that matters! I don't like it when someone asks a question and gets crap from people because "they know it all". This was the first time scribing for me and I just wanted to show how simple it was. I think the results came out very well. Either way - thanks for watching!
It's looking great. I was lazy and was working in the parking lot of my apartment with limited wood tools. Frame, walls, cabinets, slideout bed, and countertop sanded and sealed 1x3x8 furring strips. Cheap but looks good. Have fun with the build.
Hi Mike - you're not lazy for working with what you had. I'm the same way - I'm retired with a limited amount of income, so I have to watch what I spend. I used to have a full workshop in my home - then my wife of 30+ years found a boyfriend on the internet and there went the marriage, the house and my tools. I commented to another sub that I sit there like a zombie staring at the walls. I know what I want but I procrastinate on how to frame it out. Brain fog - or old age - lol.
@@ADKOverlandNY My wife lasted 20 years. I paid for my wife's college education and she left for her new career. I lost my will to work the long hours so I closed my 3 automotive businesses losing thousands and sold the house and my Corvettes. My ex-wife got to keep her new Cadillac SUV and a few small items from the house but due to our agreement, she didn't get one dime from me. My youngest son 13 went with me to a two-bedroom apartment, and my other 3 kids 2 sons one in Irvine CA, and the other in Austin Texas were doing fine along with my daughter who was in Japan so no problems with them at least. I had kept my master's current so I went back to work for one of my old bosses who owned a GM/Ford Dealer so I could pay the bills and finish raising my son. After I sent my son to Standford University I went to work for CarMax for a few years and then retired when my son graduated and went to work. Now I do what I want to do and keep it simple. Time flys when you're having fun.😂Good luck.
Hello again Jeff! I watched this video earlier on TV so i really couldn't comment, so i eventually pull it up on my phone. To me, this was one of the most interesting, and best ones so far, I kid you not!! I am very handy with all the basics and have most of all the tools but this video was huge for me. To see you do it was worth a thousand pages....and after I was like, "DUH" lol. I read all your subs comments and your replys, and couldn't believe people (er, idiots) on that Facebook group were dissing for not knowing this. Nobody knows everything. Im hoping someday this video will be a huge help to me with a build. And i WISHHH I was in a current builld about where yours is at. If i was I'd take a few rides out there to work side by side and toss ideas around. After all, misery loves company haha. Right now my van life and build are just thoughts in my head... that i cannot stop!!
Hi Tom - If this video helped someone, then it was worth it! When I read how some others in that Chevy Express Facebook group talked down to this guy because he asked a simple question, I decided to make the video. That was my actual first time scribing a template and I'm glad it looked as simple as it was - no special skills, no special tools. My son & I bounce ideas off each other all of the time because not everything "hits me in the face" being obvious lol.
I was just pissed that a Facebook group that should be a source of info and sharing ideas ended up having the usual trolls. It just makes other group members apprehensive to ask simple questions for fear of being ridiculed. Thanks for watching though!!
I joined a Facebook group of Chevy Express van owners, and a member of the group asked a simple question of how he could transfer the curve of his van wall onto a piece of wood to make a cabinet. Well, he was virtually chastised for not knowing. There are so many people out there today willing to cut someone down, but a simple explanation for him would've helped more than belittling him for his question. So I made the video!
@@ADKOverlandNY Lol I don’t know how to do that either so your video was informative. As for the guys that slapped him down remember this Jeff, there is a troll under every bridge.
Thanks! You are a lot further ahead on the cabinet build than me. I'll sit there and stare like a zombi and not come up with a framing idea. Sometimes I can jump right into something, and it works out great. Framing out what I want to do is another story lol. Zombie apocalypse - I'm there!
@@ADKOverlandNY I feel that haha I’ve spent so much time just looking at the van waiting for an idea to pop into my head, or holding up different pieces of wood ten different ways haha it’ll come to you!
my single biggest issue is lumber believe it or not. My local Home Depot has stacks of wood on the shelf that is wet, molded, bends and twists. Some of the worse stuff I've ever seen, so trying to get straight pieces to work with ain't happening. I've got three of their stores somewhat in close proximity or maybe I'll have to check out Lowe's.
@@ADKOverlandNY yeah Home Depot can be such a pain when it comes to lumber there’s just no consistency at all, for sure might be worth checking out Lowe’s
Omg! Thank you SO much for showing how to scribe! I have been looking and looking and watching video after video for someone to actually show me! 😮😮

Love the video can't wait to see how those cabinets come out! I'm ordering my solar next so I can get that wired and finish up my ceiling.
