    The STAT-V pickup sounds as if you're using a microphone on your violin or viola, but leaves you free to move around as expressively as you want! Because it is an electrostatic transducer, not a piezo, you get a warm accurate tone. It fits in the "eye" of either violin or viola bridge. Strong output signal. No feedback!
    Schertler recommends removing the wing of the eye slot of the bridge as you can see in the photo we show at 0:12. Matt didn't cut off that portion of his bridge because he doesn't usually use this type of pickup on his personal instrument. As you can hear, the pickup sounds good without removing that portion of the bridge. It should sound even better with a recommended installation.

    IMO it's too overpriced for a regular piezo sound and inside shoud be a cheap pre amp curcuit.. any cheap piezo you can get a clean sound then post processing live with a pre and using IR in a pedalboard.

      To be clear, this is not a piezoelectric pickup but an electrostatic pickup, which is like a contact mic. Many players, and in particular classical and traditional players, don't have the equipment or know-how to use IRs and do post processing. The STAT-V is a convenient pickup solution for them that produces a high quality signal and realistic-enough tone reproduction. But to each his own--if you're a wizard with IRs and production methods then you can probably get away with a lower-priced piezo pickup! :)

    I have LR Bagg acoustic DI, does it work with this pickup without the STAT PRE control box??
    THanks!

      Jason, according to Schertler, if you want the best sound possible, their STAT-PRE gain-stage preamp *must* be used before any other preamp or amplifier.

    After some time, the cork has shrunk and is a bit loose now. Schertler says in their manual, you can fit a piece of paper or add a thin layer of varnish. What kind of varnish do they mean, and would a nail polish work, do you think?

    I have a Scherler, I think it sounds great! with a rich tone which I love. No alterations for the model I have, it uses putty that comes right off after use. Thanks!

      theviolingeek Sounds like you have the DYN-V, a very nice-sounding electrodynamic transducer...almost microphone-like quality!

    I have Stat-v but I I don't have a D.I. boxes. Is it necessary? Why? When can I use it? Thanks

      @ElectricViolinShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If plugging into an acoustic instrument amplifier with hi-Z input then you shouldn't need a D.I.
      If you are plugging into a mixer/sound board you would need a D.I. as it sends a balanced signal that can travel further distance via cable and match the lower input impedance of the mixer.

    I can't seem to get an answer to a simple question from anyone. How to connect a bridge pickup to a jack on an electric violin?Such as a L R Baggs.

      @ElectricViolinShop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, we replied to your question on another video with a link to an article about output jack wiring. Here is a link to the LR Baggs installation instructions (they further refer you to the output jack's own instructions). static1.squarespace.com/static/5772af1029687f3cdf68994e/t/583db8b8d2b8571174c05282/1480439992125/lr-baggs-violin-pickup-install-manual-user-guide.pdf
      If you're uncomfortable with soldering the wiring you can have a guitar tech do it for you. We're an instrument retailer and only provide these videos for informational purposes. There are many other online outlets where more specific guidance on issues like electrical wiring.

      Matt, You are very kind to go to the trouble of helping me - much appreciated. I realise you are busy and may not get much return from these questions. (Also cements Anglo American good feelings! Cheers)

      Our friend Haydn Vitera did a trial with all those pedals from EHX. He's probably going to post the video soon. Check him out on social media.

    Great videos - thanks! I'm not sure if this is the violin, pickup, amp, room acoustics, or my imagination - but the tone seems to change so drastically across strings sometimes. Sometimes it'll happen in the middle of a long note on the same bow (this happens in multiple videos). I'm just curious - do you know why? Perhaps it's the microphone/camera recording the video?

    • @davidgreenlees6430
      @davidgreenlees6430 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its because the pickup is wedged into the treble side of the instrument, thus favouring the top strings.

      I'm not implying you're dumb but just in case you didn't see the annotation where it says "Audio source: violin / pickup" , it switches the recording device every few seconds.
