    The photo section looks like a feature that will run for quite a while, I like it. What you were saying about the no sleeping on board and no trailers overnight seems to be part of the growing trend of negativity councils have towards any enjoyment we have. I have been looking on Google maps for places to put in around the Kent coast and it is not easy to find anywhere. I think it may be telling that the DCA has no presence around here too. Crewing The Dovekin sounds like a fantastic experience, congrats on that. The season is definitely changing to autumn over here now, still, we can enjoy your spring and summer.

    I’m interested in, if / how you solve the heeling over, taking on water problem. Maybe increasing ballast, maybe increasing the weight of your center board, maybe releasing the jib or main sheet to dump the gusting wind, maybe moving to the boat’s high side, maybe some combination? Heh, heh, taking on water is no joke. Thanks for sharing your adventure…from east Tennessee.

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for another lovely production. I recall being knocked over by a sudden gust on Pittwater in my 28ft yacht - a tub of yoghurt flew from the galley to the lee cabin side. But I have wondered whether some of the the Ellyard designs are a bit lightly ballasted,

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy yes I only have 60 kg in the skeg keel but obviously more weight when I go away for longer 40kg wood, water, etc. But the newer Stornaways will have more ballast. Thanks for watching cheers Paul...ps I hope the yoghurt didn't make too much of a mess!

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Greg, the beer cooler hack really works, also make a silicon gasket around the lid by putting a line of silicon and letting it dry before closing. This will make it airtight and also a blanket out of the windscreen reflective material, adds even more insulation. I've also done this with my bigger cool box(which holds more beer!) Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

      @gregzeszotarski9927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SailingKateLouise Good idea with the silicone gasket to make it air tight. I noticed the top cover you had looked like one of those windshield covers to keep sun from baking the dash. Hi Larry, thank you, it's a Torqueedo 801 made in Germany. This model is over 12 years old and there is now a newer model Torqueedo 2000. They have a Lithium battery or you can run them off standard deep cycle Lead acid batteries. I have 2 x12 volt wheelchair batteries under the bunks. There are quite expensive though, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    What do you like about your mainsail rig?

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael, apart from the traditional look which suits the design, having a lugsail yawl gives you 3 sail options before reefing. Although the downside is she doesn't point as well, but still fun to sail and I'm not racing. Adding a boom would actually improve the performance of the main but I do have a whisker pole which acts as a temporary boom for sailing downwind. I just don't use it very much. Cheers Paul

      Hi someone suggested it might be laws to prevent the homeless problem in the states, where a lot of people are living aboard on hulks...Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

  • @yeoldegunporn
    @yeoldegunporn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Weird about Ohio. I wonder if it has more to do with "fighting homelessness" than boating. I know in CA and FL and TX we had problems with people living on basically derelict boats. Lots of people also use trailed boats as RV's and some of those end up immobile and making a mess. There's been a big push to keep people from being able to do that a lot of places.

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info Thomas, I didn't think about the homeless situation in the States, I just thought it was a nanny state. A sailor from Ohio told me about it and the fines are high and also for fishing without a licence. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    Those rules about no camping are horrible. I think it's hyper capitalism. They don't want people camping for free. They want to force people to pay a business in order to sleep away from home. They might also fear houseboats, and people living that way full time.

    Hi Paul,
    I was the Mate for 9 years on the Alma Doepel which is a F/A ship with square on the foremast.
    All I can say to you is ask ask ask questions and remember you are already ahead of of other as you know your P AND S .
    Don’t try and remember everything. Just remember a couple of things every time you go on it and build from there. This is what I did and before long I knew more then other who had been there for years.
    Also ask then to send you a pin diagram. If you don’t know what that means you will. It tells you where all the lines are made fast to. All the best.
