he had a lot of issues when everyone left high school and went to college. he never spent time on his education and he was overshadowed by jack who had both looks and smarts. to me, his humor was him coping with this. if he stayed the hot jock into college the show wouldn't have felt authentic

They were pretty entertaining: 1)Eric got brain damage when he hit his head on the window and blacked out in the episode where they got snowed in. Timing is reasonable. 2)The entire show is from Cory's perspective. When Cory was young. He idolized and respected his brother Eric. As he got older he realized Eric was a goofball, and eventually when he was in college was at a point where he just thought his brother was an idiot because their dynamic and his perspective has changed so much. Basically the whole show is in Cory's view, so it wasn't Eric that changed it was his brother. 3)Will's favorite theory. As the writers got to know the actors, they leaned into their personalities and on set antics. So basically while Eric Matthew's started off a reasonably well adjusted and intelligent human being, by series end the writers had learned it was easier to just write it as Will being Will, bringing him to the realization that maybe he IS a brain damaged idiot. I'm not being mean. His words. Random example of that last one as far as how the writers worked with them, the feenie call was his creation. They just told him in the script to walk in and greet Feenie. He improved the first one, it escalated from there, and by the end of the show the scripts just said Eric does The Feenie Call, with no explanation of what new and absurd variation he should come up with.
Almost funny how this show was in the 1990s and yet when Corey says ‘you guys should be married’ Eric’s first thought was ‘I’m not ready’ instead of something else. So that’s basically admitting to Eric at least not being completely straight

Jack is legit one of my favorite characters in this show, he didn’t get nearly as much development as he should have. There was a random episode in season 6 where he had like, a full-on panic attack, and then it’s NEVER ADDRESSED AGAIN. There was so much they could have done with him and they only used him for comic relief from the weekly Cory-and-Topanga-are-fighting-again A-plot. Bless you for making this
I love that Jack and Eric are basically just another version of Cory and Shawn, they may not have been friends for as long as Cory and Shawn but they are very close and none of Eric’s weird quirks seem to bother Jack in the least.

Jack is legit one of my favorite characters in this show, he didn’t get nearly as much development as he should have. There was a random episode in season 6 where he had like, a full-on panic attack, and then it’s NEVER ADDRESSED AGAIN. There was so much they could have done with him and they only used him for comic relief from the weekly Cory-and-Topanga-are-fighting-again A-plot. Bless you for making this

I love that Jack and Eric are basically just another version of Cory and Shawn, they may not have been friends for as long as Cory and Shawn but they are very close and none of Eric’s weird quirks seem to bother Jack in the least.
