Looks like a Takomo 101 or Caley 01…. One of the reasons why I love this channel so much, is that you test on the course; not inside with a monitor. You get to see how they play in reality.
Thanks Gabe! Loving your club and equipment reviews all the way from up here in Vancouver BC. Retiring in two weeks and a new set of irons is a must and your reviews have really helped .
Thank you Gabe for reviewing these irons!! I have been eyeing these irons with a graphite recoil shafts!! Price would be about 489…. Which is amazing!! They look amazing!!
16 handicapper here. I tried a set of these and mostly liked them. As Gabe mentioned, they have a bit of a light feel to them. They couldn't beat out my Cleveland UHX's, which are crazy forgiving and long. Thanks for the fun and informative content! I appreciate these vids during the long Wisconsin winter!
Great video Gabe!!! I was so close to snagging these before I picked up my new to me Zx4s. Gorgeous looks and forgiveness for under $500 is the real deal. 🎉
These look great and maybe I'd use them as my winter/travel set. I don't like playing regularly with irons that have strong lofts. I prefer these over the Tokomo in the offset.
Almost bought some of the milled irons they released ended up with the Adams idea irons and it’s insane the forgiveness on those irons looking to get a new driver, 3 wood, and putter for the next season
I get email ads all the time from MacGregor, the milled cavity back model looks darn good to me, look even better in my green and white MacGregor stand bag that I bought in 2002. From their v-foil days. Now those were the best looking muscleback irons I'd ever seen, art work really.
McGregor 1025M Vfoil were the best irons I ever bought. They were a true pro iron and little butter knives in size. Personally these irons offset are a bit much for me and more for a mid to high handicap. They look nice. The website does not specify the head metal type.
Gabe I’d love to see you do MG’s Wizards hybrid set. I keep looking at getting my wife a set of hybrid irons and have not really seen any reviews on them. Like the Cleveland T rails.
Gabe any plans on reviewing the Haywood irons? the few reviews out seem very very positive, would love to see your trusted review of their SV2 and/or PD1 irons. Thanks, Marco
Debating these and Takomo 101. I’m a high handicap golfer so I feel like the 101 is better for me but these have really caught my eye. Any thoughts welcome!
Gabe, they look an awful lot like the Takomo 101s or the Caleys. I currently play Ping G425s and I'm about a 10 hcp. What DTC irons do you recommend for somebody like me?
In your opinion, would a mere mortal like me (15 handicap) benefit more from buying a set like this or a used set that’s 2-5 years old for a similar price and category? I only picked up golf a year ago. Thanks!
I’m a lefty. My first set of irons 30 years ago was MacGreggor battle sticks. So historically they have made left handed clubs. These irons look great. I’m looking for a new set in my old age I might give these a look. Good stuff.👍🥃
I bought these and the Maltby TS 1 IM irons at the same time. I hit the Macspd irons farther and they are more forgiving, but I feel I have more control with the Maltbys. However, these MACSPDs are cheat codes as far as forgiveness goes
Congrats on 100k gabe!!! Perfect review !!! I’d love to see a comparison with these and the new lynx set, and the new Ben hogan apex!!!! Major brands of the past making a new sting on the market!!
Those lofts are pretty much what I prefer in a modern iron set. Of course, as a really high-spin player (I compress the ball well with my irons), I generate enough spin, so “pressed” lofts are less of a factor for me.
Gabe, any chance you can review the Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 golf watch? It popped up as an advert in my Google feed and looks pretty interesting, haha. I currently wear the S70 and love it. Happy Holidays, sir! (BTW, it's a $2k golf watch 😎)
Great review Gabe as I have had my eyes on the black version of these. I currently play the TS3 irons with mmt shafts and love them, but you know how it is. Im 11 HC. Can you think of any place beside playability that these would compare with the Maltby TS3 using same shafts? Second, is the offset progressive or is there larger offset on the pitching wedge as well? Also, that McGregor wide blade putter looks sweet.
It's progressive offset. Much less on the PW than the 4 or even 7. These feel and forgive similar to the Maltby, but that's probably where the similarities end.
@@LetsPlayThru Thanks on the offset info. Interesting reply. Do you mean that these are more point and shoot where TS3 are workable and more versatile if you need but with less offset? Someone surprised you said the feel is similar as the TS3's feel pretty amazing. But it sounds kinda like a lateral move from ts3 or worse Im getting from your vid. Again thanks for the reply. Edit: just found out McGregor sells the heads only as well.
@LetsPlayThru given they are around the same price, which did you prefer? Do you have a listing on your website with your club review scores/rankings?
Looks like MacGregor, are finally coming back as a brand. They do a lot of really low grade package sets and wood sets here in the UK, with a chain called Sports Direct. Cheap and tacky, but these look ace 👍.
So , a question for you. If equipment has continued to always be more “forgiving”, then what has the handicap trend been for all golfers across the board and men and women , over the past 2 decades?
I don't know that answer, but NGF puts out some good numbers on that sort of stuff. Would be interesting to know. Would also need to overlay that data with the amount of new golfers coming into the game, especially during the Covid years.
In all reality, the original big berthas are some of the most forgiving of all time. Ping G5 are more forgiving that the 730. Since then, the focus has been getting that forgiveness in a smaller, but nicer looking and feeling package. If all you care about is forgiveness, An older Callaway x-16 to x22, or big Bertha will be more forgiving than most of current GI irons. But they sure are not nice to look at.
Ugh stuff, my point is, with the improvement in technology and the golf clubs etc, has the average handicap actusllly gone down over the past 20-30 years?
@@atfinthehouse8631 a survey found that in 1983, the average Handicap Index for male golfers was 17, while the average for females was 31.5. Forty years later, the Handicap Index data from the USGA, fueled by the launch of the World Handicap System in 2020, is far more extensive, with more than 3.2 million golfers having a Handicap Index. The USGA recently released statistics on today’s golfers, including the average handicap. For men, the average Index is 14, and the average for women is 28. Thats pretty significant
As much as I like these I still would choose the Maltby irons because they're forged and the lofts are not as strong if I remember correctly. You can also get the TS3s adjusted.
If only they didn’t have so much offset They are very similar offset wise to the old Titleist DCI Gold which I sold after one trip to the range. A quarter inch is just too much for my eye.
