Hey Hyce, Our group found the starting 10 Wheeler to be a good dedicated sawmill engine. Takes 20 log bunks up Connely creek no problem. Glad we stationed it there and didn't sell it!
I've kept No1 since rescuing it on the first day, using it for exactly this purpose! I now also have a S-23 Switcher stationed at Whittier for shunting the sawmill/Stenzel MFG etc.
I will say.. while the caboose is just flavor text, it does present the fun challenge when it comes time to switch and set cars out while still keeping the caboose where it needs to be in the train.
The caboose is also light enough that your character can push it out of the way when your dutch drop inevitably fails. I like the cabeese, it just doesn't feel right running trains without them.
There was a notification from Adam that he is working on a fix/update to scenery to hopefully help with issue with crashes that some people are experiencing. Also, you might try Yard/20 when doing your switching. Click when around 10-12 cars distance and the AI will couple to the cut without being babysat.
I appreciate you taking feedback into account, and your commitment to teaching steam. I've already learned so much from this channel and look forward to continuing to learn!
Fun fact: NASA actually does have a little class III railroad at Cape Canaveral for transporting cryogenic fuel, helium, rocket boosters and the like. They have three SW1500s working there and they have a sick custom NASA livery. EDIT: Never mind, they pretty much only use a couple of railcar movers now. The SW1500s are on static display.
While the sw1500s were probably the most practical choice, i still wish we couldve seen NASA GMDH-1's in another timeline. I agree that the paint scheme is cool af too.
Nice video. Also, so you know, you can go into the equipment tab of the car you want to repair, select a repair destination, and it'll fix the car same as the engine sheds. And it works for all cars, those you own and those that you can get from the interchange Edit: Dillsboro has repair tracks to the side of the turntable, and Bryson has repair tracks to the side of and behind the roundhouse.
@@Hyce777 I spicy-doonked a few cars already (pinballed my own coal hopper at the interchange between the Mogul and one of the cuts i thought I'd be able to do a saw-by), and wanted to see if i could fix the little tree before delivering the cars at their respective industries, which is how i found that out. Side note: any idea what the plan is for the Cowee Bridge Site, which is literally on the main between Barkers and Cowee?
@@superbluhedgehog1 My guess for the Cowee bridge site is for an alternate starting scenario. Sylva Interchange to Dillsboro instead of East Whittier Interchange to Ela.
I do have to say that I love these longer videos, they're great to have on in the background while I'm working. I also might get to learn something about railways which is always a good side affect. Thanks Hyce for making these.
I've got some great tips for you that can help improve the profitability of the ES&DT!! Best tip for you would be for you to keep one engine specifically for the log train, (preferably the ten wheeler for its short range and good hauler) because when youre running tier 4 you get around 3-4K a day (engine could also be used as whitter and ela switcher) For loading the logs you can split the train up 4 cars on L1, 4 cars on L2, 3 cars on L3... (this way you dont overwhelm the daily production of each of the log sites) You can keep logs+pulpwood in storage at the industries, therefor you can make more money just for filling their storage up, but once it's full the cars will slowly unload as the company uses them for crafting. This will also increase the total number or output cars from Whitter to interchange. Then you can transfer the pulpwood via the west and eastbound to conelly creek and fill them at the p3/4 tracks up top. Also you could totally run the pacific one way in the morning, then run back at night once the projects and cars are unloaded. And lastly I found this out recently, Sylva has a max car spawnage of 40 cars hope that these techniques might be able to improve the profitablility of the ES&DT so that it doesn't end up in crippling debt and bankrupt like its step-sister the RGS
The day I'm currently working, I purchased phase 2 of the Alarka branch. So at 6:00 a.m. I had 40 cars at the Sylva interchange - 21 of which were for the Alarka branch (aka non-revenue). After I'd gotten them on their way and dropped my pickups from Dillsboro and Sylva at the interchange, another 13 cars appeared at 10:00 a.m.!
By the way, if you deliver more logs or pulpwood, then they ask for you get more money. I have like 12 log cars and I get paid almost $3000 for delivering them twice.
Nothing to do with the video but just want to say, the patreon video for the month of January was *insane*. Major kudos to the team, COS is shaping up to be the "Run 8 but for steam locomotives." (in terms of sim, that is).
Everyone: How many times will we derail stuff? Hyce: "Smells Like Kenosha" will play once every five minutes. John Doe: So you owe me a few thousand dollars? Hyce: Yes.
I’ve found it handy to have the smaller engines around, even after having several bigger ones. Seems like I always end up needing to move something random around or run a couple cars somewhere because I forgot something. Or just leaving somewhere for switching
So far my longest train is somewhere around 40 cars, and it weighed almost 3,000 tons! Granted, it was coming down the grade, but the C-55 handled it pretty well. That same engine has also managed to pull about 2,500 tons up the grade into Sylva.
8:00 (ish) - I really appreciate your humble and open approach to criticism. Funny enough I didn't perceive your commentary as that negative, but it might be because I'm used to people wired like you 😅 I mean, I think it was even that very video where I asked you if you'd consider re-reviewing, because I felt like you were significantly more positive to the game than back then. Also I'd say that at least from my POV you're very respectful and appreciative towards the Railroader dev team in the way you voice your criticism. 10:00 - "We'll get that guy filled up" in that case, you should call him Carl. 24:30 - Theoretically I'd really be interested. Practically I fear we might annoy the eff out of each other by play style 🤣Not to mention itty bitty details like time zones across the pond *and* most of your continent being in-between. 26:27 - oh look at the brake state display of the long train. That's actually some really neat propagation simulation. I can't tell if the timing is correct, the release times are very short from my POV, but the mechanic is there and quite nice. Not much to say about the rest of the video, other than that it was entertaining as always. Thanks and take care! Also, if you have the capacity currently, there's a short PM waiting for you in Discord.
You know two things that would be perfect in the game in my opinion. One would be a duplex engine. I can’t think of any narrow gauge duplex’s, at least any that would have been operated in the area the games set in. But it would be so cool. Two would be (camel tank cars?) I’m not sure the name but tankers that attach the end of tenders so they have another car of water (like flying Scotsmen and the big boy uses). Also great video! Loving the content!
Hyce a way to change military time which is 24 hr and civilian time is 12 hr. At 12 noon its 1200 hrs to convert from military to civilian 100 in the afternoon is 1300 just subtract 2 becomes 100 to go to military time add 2 then follow that rule to 8 pm or 2000 military. Believe me, I understand the impulse to correct someone when you see something incorrect about something you’re an expert on. I design ships for a living, and the general public knows almost nothing about them (and even some ship-focused TH-camrs say things that are objectively wrong when discussing them). But you have to learn to pick your battles or you’ll go insane. If I felt the need to correct everybody who refers to the stem as “the prow” or confuses sea songs and sea shanteys, I’d have an aneurism.

Wait till everything West of Brookes on the map is tier 5, you'll be able to haul 90 plus cars
not gonna lie im waiting to see a (Duluth, Mesabi & Iron Range) DMIR car to show up on one of the coal cars
Just wait till you get the first interchange after the most recent update
24 cars at interchange? Is that a big thing because they all need to be switched out?
The return of the clicking simulator lol
Believe me, I understand the impulse to correct someone when you see something incorrect about something you’re an expert on. I design ships for a living, and the general public knows almost nothing about them (and even some ship-focused TH-camrs say things that are objectively wrong when discussing them). But you have to learn to pick your battles or you’ll go insane. If I felt the need to correct everybody who refers to the stem as “the prow” or confuses sea songs and sea shanteys, I’d have an aneurism.
yeah at contract level 5 with 30 cars per day the sawmill gives me $4500/day
I finally have a better safety rating than the ES&DT! By your action and not mine but I'll take it
Can you make a video on how to install the mods?
I wonder, is there a train that would have been the best train ever, if it wasn't plagued with mechanical errors or bad luck?
I feel like the drunkess slider for the 0-6-0 and the 4-6-2 are the wrong way around.
The Atlantic will do close to 60

@@Hyce777 well I can’t remember if he works on CoS or not (I know Brett does), but hopefully he’ll be able to squeeze in setting up the merch store in between his job, volunteering at the CRRM, working on his model railroad, filming content for your channel, and planning his wedding.
i may have made the mistake of selling the starting tenwheeler for another mogul....I REGRET NOTHING!
