    Idk, in IBM reviews they were saying that IBM was more concerned to do self ads than teach something, like forcing you to use their tools or learn about their cloud(?). I think courses from universities is more likely to have good content without conflicts.

      I am currently enrolled in the data science professional course from IBM. I can confirm that they use a lot of their tools to teach and it does seem like a bit of a bias. Regardless, it still teaches you the principals/fundamentals of Data Science. By the way, the one course should NOT be the be all, end all of your data science journey. Hey Greg!
    I am sort of perplexed when it comes to choosing either of these… I have just finished the first course on the IBM certificate, but upon seeing several different comparisons with the Google certificate, I honestly don’t know what to do.
    Which one would recommend for someone that’s just trying to use a very important field (Data Science) as a compliment to a B.Sc/M.Sc within Business&Economics/Innovation & Industrial Management and why? Hence, not seeking a career strictly within data science. Also, FYI, I live in the EU, not the US (good to know since one main component of googles certificate, is it’s hub of American companies)

    So lucky that I came across your video and will use this opportunity to ask for your advice and guidance. Data analytics from google looks very tempting, and the way they teach is very good as well. They have video and other ways to educate, compared to IBM data analytics -they have a PowerPoint way to do this. In the long run, this can be incredibly boring, and unmotivating. Have talked to someone else and they think I should take google's certification, also take a course on Python later in time - because they think R and Python are not that different - when it comes to data analysis.
    After watching your video, I was also made aware that IBM has a course in computer science, which also aroused interest in me. Want to change my career to something new and exciting.
    Would have appreciated any input and advice from you.

    • @GregHogg
      @GregHogg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What are you looking to change into? It sounds like you want data analytics, but personally I think data science is much more interesting. Also, I suppose you could argue R and Python aren't that different - but they're significantly different, and I would very highly recommend solely learning python and getting very good at it. Nothing wrong with Google analytics certificate though.

      @@GregHogg I'd like to make a job change. As a result, think about getting into data science, although I have to confess that I was a little worried about the amount of work it would involve. In the next months, I will have more spare time, which I will devote to learning a new skill. Google's data analytics seemed interesting since it came from Google, and everyone knows Google. It's also beginners friendly. However, agrees that data science appears to be more engaging and that it is a better career path than data analytics.
      Is the IBM data science course the best option for me? If you had recommended a certification from among all ones available. What are your suggestions?

    Hello, Greg, great job. I learned a lot from your specialization ranking. I have a big decision to make. First of all, I am from Peru. I am in the ninth semester of my economics degree. I have taken university courses related to Machine Learning and Data Analytics, as well as finance-related courses. I have also worked as a data analyst intern. However, I am seriously considering taking one of the courses you suggested (IBM, Machine Learning Specialization, or Deep Learning Specialization), and I'm not sure which one, or should I take all of them? As you will understand, being in university, I cannot do all of these certifications right now. In that sense, I ask you which of these three you believe would be crucial to take to get a job as a Data Scientist or at least to secure an internship as one.

    Interesting learning about the prejudices of a computer scientist - X is good, don't learn Y - (why?). Economists have our own prejudices as I'm sure does every branch of science. What's good/prestigious or not good/prestigious is as much about culture and convention and values as actual merit. I learnt that from observing the split between policy economists and academic economists.

    • @GregHogg

      May I ask which sentence of mine you're referring to here?

    • @jonathanbower7081

      @@GregHogg This isn't a criticism of you - thanks for a great video, I learned a lot! Then found on linkedin that you're young and educating me and it made me feel like an underachiever haha. On your question, I think it is value judgments like "don't learn SAS", "great BUT it's in R" - what's wrong with R? a lot of economists think R is great or the future. I'm sure you have good reasons for some of your value judgments but perhaps not for others (at a guess - same would go for me and any member of any profession with its own culture). E.g. some economists prefer to write papers in LaTeX as a way to signal they are in the academic economist club when Word is way easier and more widely used at least by policy economists who aren't incentivised to spend as much effort signalling that they're smart but are incentivised to churn out accessible work using economic logic to try to influence policymaker thinking.

    • @GregHogg
      @GregHogg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonathanbower7081 Looks like it's safe to assume that you're an economist 😅 and yeah you certainly have a point! R is great for statistics work. My main criticism is that it's less versatile than python (of course, in my opinion). I'm a big fan of learning as little technical details as completely possible. If I wanted to write a web app, it would be hard to do that in R or SAS, yet still Python is fantastic for it. Of course a handpicked example, but that's my rationale. R is better for anything confidence interval, probability related, or LM / GLM 100%.

    What is the time duration for IBM

      Honestly it's hard to say. Expect several months though, unless you're doing it full-time, which maybe you could do it in a month or two if you really gave it your all. Take a look at the link in the description (I may earn a commission) :)

    it seems you prefer intense programming, your ratings don't seem ideal for absolute beginners who may now be exploring the career (which is what I assume Coursera courses target)

    Good thing I didn’t come here for an impartial opinion

      Of course I'm not impartial; everything here is my opinion, combined with other people's opinions. If you don't care about my opinion, that's totally fine and understandable.
