EDIT: Thanks to all who've pointed out that Samsung also offers a version of Magic Eraser. I missed it because I use Google Photos on my Flip and Fold, instead of the Samsung Gallery app where the feature apparently resides. MrMobile regrets the error.

I've had a pixel 4a 5g for a year and a half now, the Nokia 6.1 before that. It's been absolutely great, the camera is awesome, and it's dependable. And I don't get spam calls. When this phone dies, I will likely get pixel again. But with the zoom camera. I've found that the ultra-wide angle is handy only sometimes for me, but I've found myself wishing for a good zoom lens more often. My dream would be a slightly smaller screen, about 5.5-5.8", but I know that won't happen

I stuck with an iPhone over the past few years since leaving the Galaxy Note 8. I've been interested in the Pixel since it's intro but I always believed it's best to wait 2-3 iterations for a company to hash out any major bugs/issues with a brand new format/style/design/internals.
I hope the Pixel 8 improves the video camera capabilities and smoothness such as the transition between lenses, and also optimizes the OS to run even smoother than what I've seen so far (which looks decent at the moment).

"The stills are great! The video is garbage!" Why can't we just have it all? I've been looking to replace my old phone for a few years and have yet to find a phone that doesn't have some major compromise somewhere.
I do wonder however, one thing that has kept me away from the Pixel is the lack of manual control for stills and video. Really, with that, I could fix most of the issues with stills and video.

This was such a good review.
I've joined the pixel line with the 6 Pro last year after always owning a Sony - starting with the Z into the smartphone space, then the Z3, XZ Premium and finally 1... But prices got too high for the software support they offer, so went with Pixel instead. Now, one year later, I've grabbed the pre order offer and got me 7 Pro with the Pixel Watch, traded in my 6 Pro so the price was just too damn hot. Owning the phone for three days now with the watch, which is my first ever btw, I can only completely agree with your words. Google offers such a unique and refined software experience with a rich set of features, just glad to be in now. Especially photography is just excellent, I've never shot this many pics before!
EDIT: I've remembered sth that could have been mentioned - Google increased the support by one year with Android updates. Comes closer to Apple, which is great as software support has always been Apple's great strength.

I have been on a trip to Iceland last summer (2021) and I can't tell you how happy I am to see that you've been there too. Iceland is a place out of this world. From black beaches to huge blocks of ice on it. Rock formations that are inexplicably gorgeous. I hope you had the same experience I had when you visited it. I went with a friend of mine, who brought at the time top of the line GoPro Hero 10 and the footages were amazing. I wished I had a drone, but I got there with a OnePlus 7T Pro and a Panasonic Lumix G85. Photos and videos were good, but I have a huge pile of them that I still have to edit via professional software like Capture One or DaVinci. I wish I had a phone like the Pixel 7 Pro at the time. Everything would've been more immediate. Kudos to you for the review and your trip to Iceland!

I love it when reviwers can have a story behind a review. Most just use it for a few weeks and talk about it. Other times, they can go on a vacation/trip and actually talk about the features they used. It's assuring to know that in the real world, it's a good/bad product and you can't always get that answer by using it at home. I always wait for the MrMobile review for anything before buying (along with watching others) and this might be enough to make me trade in my Pixel 5.

The highs and lows of it are clear, and I have felt like people are softer on the video this year, but it seems clear here that the choppiness, the focusing, and issues with zoom and camera switching hold this one back. Still a very strong contender and I'm glad it's better refined, I am considering this or one of the S23s for my next phone. I know I'd miss a lot of Samsung features, and I am not sure which would be better for battery and gaming (Pokemon GO, specifically), but there does seem to be a lot to like about the Pixel experience as well. You can call screen on the iPhone (under settings/phone). But the approach Ioke is to have a different ring tone for anyone who's on my contact list (and a faster one for people designated as VIPs, and only those go to my watch). Means I don't even need to look at my phone to decide whether to take it or not.

It's unfortunate Google took this long, I was a LONG holdout, actually liked the Nexus series alot, but the cameras were ALWAYS underwhelming. Kept waiting, and the pixel series just never was a viable option, so I switched to iOS a year ago. I have no regrets, but it's good that Google is FINALLY producing something decent on the photography side that doesn't force you to except a bunch of compromises elsewhere

I really wanted this phone but I just can’t!
As an OTR driver I must have a very large amount of local storage ON MY PHONE!
Many of the areas where I must park for up to 34 hours have absolutely no signal and as a result I keep movies, music and photos on my phone’s storage.
I am one of over 3 million truck drivers in America so I’m not alone in this.
Smart phone manufacturers have been including smaller storage and have removed the micro sd slots to try to force people to subscribe to cloud storage.
This is absolutely unworkable for truck drivers who also mostly have unlimited data accounts.
To forget 3 million drivers is only a small fraction of smartphone users but it is still 3 million.
It’s a shame really because it has forced me to buy an iPhone which I don’t like, simply because they offer one terabyte of storage. 😐

Got myself a regular 7 for shits and gigs, I have an s22 ultra for my main but I had an iPhone 12 mini laying around and Google's $500 offer for it was the best I was going to see without a carrier deal. I like it, it's a neat little phone, and while the s22 ultras screen is nicer and the camera is better for zoom, the regular pixel still makes amazing photos and has some neat features
