hi! Ive done a few graphs before but only by watching tutorials.. I wouldnt know how to make my own graph on something that I would want to make other than what is shown in the tutorial. For example, If I wanted to make a beanie and make a specific graph on that beanie and wasnt able to find a tutorial with the right size beanie and the exact graph on it, I wouldnt be able to create one.. I have a hard time visualizing and dont really know how to calculate the graph versus the size of beanie I wanna make. I dont know if that makes sens.. ol How do I learn how to make my own patterns and graphs? thx.
@@falbalalagauloise410 I find that the best way to learn some things in crochet is to give it a try - but start small! I would recommend you grab some simple graph paper and colored pencils, and make a pretty design about 10 x 10 squares. Then you can use that as the pattern and try to make it into a dishcloth or small art piece!
You are awesome. That’s a lot of possibilities that you revealed that I never thought possible. I used to do cross stitch and I have few books that I can use for my crochet pattern. Thank you so much ❤.
Great tips, especially about crocheting into the back loop to straighten the look of the stitches in the round. I'd never thought about that!! Thanks!🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Thanks Tamara 💕 You have answered so many questions that I’ve had on how to use graphs. I love CTC, and I am excited and inspired now! I also want to try my hand at crochet tapestry. Wish I had not watched this so close to my bedtime 😂
Wish i had this a year ago ! Lol. I have crocheted a fox rug for my g-daughter. Now my two g-sons want a raccoon n wolf rug. And do you think i could find a patter., oh heck no! I did find a cool wolf but no raccoon picture that i thought i could crochet. This gives me hope, thanx Moogly❣
Okay! Well, it depends on if you want to work it C2C or in standard rows, and how big! You can work each pixel as one stich, and do it tapestry or intarsia style. Or you can work each pixel as 3 dc for a bigger finished project! If working C2C, treat it as a C2C graph. You can do two colors or use some colored pencils on the graph to create a more colorful design!
@@mooglyblog the graph I have is 60x60 squares I’m not used to working with them I’m used to working in rows. I’ll probably work it as rows until I can get used to corner to corner.
Thank you so very much. I used to do counted cross stitch I just don’t have to do much anymore since I work full time, and take care of my husband that had a stroke 2 years ago. I have a graph pattern that I would love to try to crochet. I hope it will work out the way I’m envisioning it.
Hi Tamara, thank you for posting this video. I would like to know if its easy to use bracelet chart patterns/Cross stitch patterns and turn them into crocheted tapestry project? I would love to know your thoughts and any tips if you have them. 😊
i am a new subscriber, love the video, but i have a question i bought a graphgan pattern but it was for corner to corner, and i would like to do tunisian simple stitch instead, how can i convert that graph, because i was told tunisian is taller than wide, so how would i do that ? can you help please
Well, I'd start by making a swatch - are *your* stitches taller than they are wide? This blog has a really good comparison, and her stitches are square: yarntowers.com/2021/04/08/is-tunisian-crochet-faster-than-regular-crochet/ So I think you should be able to just work each row across! :)
@@mooglyblog Thank you for sharing the information!!! For sure I most definitely will not be passing/sharing any patterns nor will I be selling them...again thank you so very much 😊!!!
Thank you! So, plastic canvas graphs have the sts lying where the corners of the "pixels" meet (which makes sense haha). So we can ignore the "plastic" part of the graph, and focus on just the stitches - and each stitch becomes one pixel/square/c2c/stitch for crocheting!
What about converting knitting chart to a crochet bobble chart? Would you just add a space in between each bobble on same row? Rows already have spaces but not between each block on same row..
Hi I just bought a C2C graph pattern of a fire truck turn this into a simple crochet pattern and do not know how to do it. The number of blocks across is 67 how do i kow how much foundation chain to make
With C2C patterns, the first "row" is really just the first corner! If there are no written instructions and you are right-handed, start in the bottom right corner of the chart. You'll chain 6 to mafe your first square, then move through the chart diagonally, heading toward the upper left corner. This video has more info that will help: th-cam.com/video/vWlAa_ojMUA/w-d-xo.html
Assuming it's already graphed, you have a couple of options! You can use each pixel as a sc or hdc instead of a C2C block. You can also switch to a thinner yarn/smaller hook. And finally, you can simplify the image if it's not overly complicated, turning blocks of 4 pixels into 1 pixel.
I don't know if you can help with creating bobble words in a throw. I know how to do the bobble. I have only found 1 video. There are some lovely patterns out there. I would like to learn how to do my own.
Hi Brady! It sounds like it would be a good time to break out the graph paper, and figure out how to chart out the letters. Then you can make a swatch to see how you like you spacing - do you want sc rows on the right side, or dc rows? Or maybe hdc? A lot will depend on your personal guage!
@@brandybyrum4277 There will be some trial and error, but I think a small swatch of just a few stitches will help you figure out spacing pretty quickly!
To translate into crochet, each square will need to be just one color - it's up to you to pick which one! Otherwise you could turn each square of the pattern into 4 sts.

Anything square based - you just have to decide what yarn color to make each square, then start at the bottom right corner!

Can you use those patterns for gifts to family and friends?
Yes, just as long as you don't share the pattern instructions or sell the finished items! :) Otherwise, their lawyers might want a word.

Can you use bobble stitch with this?
You'll want to check your gauge to see if you can get the bobbles to create a good square grid, but if so, then yes!

How do I turn a big picture into a smaller size for a smaller crochet piece
Assuming it's already graphed, you have a couple of options! You can use each pixel as a sc or hdc instead of a C2C block. You can also switch to a thinner yarn/smaller hook. And finally, you can simplify the image if it's not overly complicated, turning blocks of 4 pixels into 1 pixel.
Do you have one for single crochet
It's the same for single crochet - just follow the chart for color changes, back and forth in rows!
Will you do a tutorial Cal with a graph
Not a CAL, but I do have a tutorial! :) th-cam.com/video/vWlAa_ojMUA/w-d-xo.html

On a cross stitch chart, how would do the quarter stitches to turn them into a crochet stitch.
To translate into crochet, each square will need to be just one color - it's up to you to pick which one! Otherwise you could turn each square of the pattern into 4 sts.
So when you do a crochet tapestry for say a blanket you do how many DC in a square
For me, 3 dc makes a square - your gauge may be different, so it's important to crochet a swatch and see what gives you the best results.
@@mooglyblog thank you
