Full Flight: British Airways A321 London to Warsaw (LHR-WAW)

  • Hey guys! Welcome to another full flight video! This time, I continue my journey from London, United Kingdom over to Warsaw, Poland aboard a British Airways A321! The overall experience of flying a British Airways Intra-European flight is honestly very comparable to ultra low cost airlines, except with the BA logo located throughout the cabin and seats. The legroom is not great and there is no free drink/snack service like most U.S. domestic (non-ULCC) flights would have. I think BA has to do this though to compete with the many popular discount carriers that Europe has. If they didn't, they'd probably only attract business travelers and struggle with the leisure market. Besides the product onboard, the flight also departed and arrived late due to Heathrow's overcrowded-ness, bad weather, and runway repairs. The only things I really truly enjoyed was the beautiful sunset view above the clouds heading into Warsaw, and the nice FA handing me a free water as well as an empty middle seat (if someone sat next to me, my overall experience would probably be even worse). So, I think the best way to describe this flight experience would be typical. As for the airports, Heathrow has a ton of nice amenities and shops located basically everywhere, but it is just too massive for my liking. Warsaw's airport on the other hand is smaller, and maybe a bit too small...but overall I enjoyed my experience at WAW a lot. Hope you guys enjoy!

    Been in Heathrow twice, 1949, 1966. The 1949 airport had one terminal, one restaurant and one runway. Being 6 at the time and flying to New York unaccompanied, the PanAm flight attendant took my hand and walked me across the tarmac to the plane, Clipper "Westward Ho".1966 was a change of planes on the way to Peshawar Pakistan.

    Wow I don't even recognize Heathrow any longer. The last time I was there it was 1991 and it still looked the way it did in the 70s and 80s for the most part.
    Interesting to see a flight report for a major Euro carrier flying to East Europe. My father flew from Heathrow to WAW twice once in 1972 on BEA and 1974 on LOT.
    The last time I took off on Runway 09R was way back in August 1977 on a National DC-10-30 to Miami. I can still picture it in my mind.

    It's embarrassing when you see airports like LHR and the disgrace that we call airports here in the US. You're lucky to find a Burger King at airports in the US. Not fine dining places like you see in LHR.

    From my seemingly outdated vantage point,it seems strange for you to go thru passport control when you're simply transiting LHR to another country--one would think there would be a separate corridor for folks like you having no desire to be officially in the UK--I'm guessing the weather is normal for Eastern Europe in late November but am amazed at your stamina in flying from IAD-LHR-WAW and staying sane! It doesn't help that its 'nighttime' in WAW even though its only about 430pm local time! Had I been in your place,I would've been a zombie,virtually sleepwalking upon arrival at WAW--were you on vacation right around Thanksgiving?

    • @stewartrogers3715
      @stewartrogers3715 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      michael sharp the uk was still part of the eu but was never part of the EU’s Schengen area.Only when you come off a flight between Schengen area states do you go straight through to baggage claim.For non-Schengen EU states(such as the UK,Croatia,Romania,Bulgaria) you have to go through passport control and customs(albeit through the special lane reserved for EU and EEA nationals).

    • @john40539
      @john40539 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brexit hasn't changed anything with travel for the coming year. The UK is not and never was part of the EU Schengen immigration area. All flights between the EU and UK therefore have always required Immigration checks. "Customs" is strictly for baggage checks- nothing to do with passports. There is always a customs check when leaving baggage claim, regardless of EU or not. This almost always involves just walking through a green or blue (for intra EU) door.

    • @michaelsharp3615

      @@john40539 what happens if you are flying say from paris to rome immigration or straight to baggage claim

    • @john40539
      @john40539 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelsharp3615 By air, there was no immigration checks from Paris to Rome, but there was a blue customs exit door. Be aware however that the Thello train goes through Switzerland, which is not in the Schengen area. As such, the Swiss boarded the train to check passports in the middle of the night. The French didn't seem to care when we entered back from Switzerland though- we left passports with porter, and I think he handled everything so we wouldn't have to be woken up again.

    • @john40539
      @john40539 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelsharp3615 Also want to point out that despite needing to go through immigration checks, you didn't (and won't for another year) need a passport to travel between EU and UK/Ireland. Most EU countries require everyone have a national ID card that is sort of like the US passport card.

    Terminal 5 in Heathrow is fine IF and ONLY IF you are staying in London, To make a connection, even from 5 to 5, it is a total pain in the neck and total chaos. As far as the security agents,they are some of the worst in the world. They act as if they have never seen liquid medication, even when it's in a pharmacy labeled container. Often they are rude and uncaring about everyone, except for themselves. I avoid this airport at all costs when making a connection in Europe.
