    I met Elijah Wood a couple of years back and got him to sign my Lord of the Rings Australian extended Blu-ray box set. I especially asked him if he could put a little "Frodo" underneath his signature. Nicest guy you could ever meet. You have very nice editions of the films there.

    Those steelbook are absolutely beautiful, all the the sets are but the steel books are definitely my favourite. I love the magnetic black blu ray case sets and then of course the original dvd sets, I was blown away when they came out. Steelbooks rule though, certainly in terms of looks and packaging. I always prefer the matte finish for steelbooks, look better and they’re not fingerprint magnets.

    Then the regular (theatrical) blu-ray boxes of both and recently the Middle Earth Ultimate Collector box with both the BD and 4K in both versions. So 4 x 6 movies on 31 discs, wtf😅 love it, though.

    In my opinion, DVDs are still around not because it’s the number 1 best selling format but because it’s more cheaper to produce when studios are too lazy to put in effort, mostly if it’s a tv series (especially cartoons)

    Directors like Peter Jackson and James Cameron are sadly examples of "overseen by the director" is not a good thing. Running them through programs that remove tons of the actual detail is the antethesis of what the point of 4k is. More detail not less texture and literally erasing out objects accidentally.

    You LOVE the Hobbit movies?
    I will never understand when people say that. What a MASSIVE let down they were. So utterly inaccurate. beyond BLOATED story. Overused, cartoony special effects (That Jackson literally apologized for). No grit to the films whatsoever, mostly clownish. Made up characters that never existed. Lord of the Rings characters that were NEVER there. Mostly poor casting. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. There are TONS of TH-cam videos out there that shred that trilogy into utter oblivion.
    This is coming from a person that worshipped the story of The Hobbit as a child. Bilbo was an inspiration to me. The 1977 Rankin and Bass version was FAR better that this ridiculous excuse of a trilogy. Richard Boone knocked it out of the park as Smaug in the animated movie.

    • @RetroMediaRoom
      @RetroMediaRoom  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't grow up with the books or the cartoons so I'm biased towards all the films and love them, when you consider the behind the scenes hell they went through to make the movies come together as well as they did, it's pretty crazy.

    • @TheKessi1000
      @TheKessi1000 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RetroMediaRoom Go watch the 1977 Rankin and Bass cartoon. If for nothing else than the Gollum and Smaug scenes.
      As far as what they went through makes zero difference to me. The designs and implementation of the story are what matters.
      There are so many ridiculously dumb ideas in the trilogy but the thing that made me certain the entire thing was going to be shit can be described in two words: Bunny Sled.
      As soon as I saw that scene, I said out loud in the theater "Oh, FUCK YOU!". I truly don't know why I stayed for the rest of the film, but I knew for certain I wasn't wasting my time or money on the next two.
      Then Jackson, in his senile old age has the horrible idea of ruining the 4K version of LOTR by trying to make it look like his inferior trilogy of The Hobbit. Just so it looks "Seamless". Almost certainly the last release of LOTR we will ever get too.
