    Wow ! Everytime I see and hear a performance of this ballad I can't wrap my head around how it is even humanly possible to remember each and every note (and its dynamics) of this masterpiece !? Amazing !

      Thank you very much! I have been playing for 20 years now, however the first time I started studying seriously this wonderful pieces was 13 years ago, when I was playing more seriously in a conservatory to become a piano master. I chose a different path later at the university and decided not to become a professional pianist, but I still love playing this masterpiece :). I find that I am enjoying playing a lot more that I have no more the pressure of making a life out of it.

    • @ProfoundParrot

      @@lorenzomonacelli That's very interesting! I first started studying music when I was 13 with an acoustic guitar, then got to play an electric guitar and bass, even had a band, but had to give up playing many years later because of the costs related to maintaining the instruments and I also couldn't find the time to play with everything that was happening at the time.
      So recently, many years later, I just decided to start "fresh" with another instrument, with the music theory that I already know. It's a challenge that I'm really enjoying. I find that the piano is the most complete instrument I have ever played. I don't feel like a need a band or anything, I can just play for myself or my family! I also feel like it's the perfect instrument to express your feelings through dynamics.
      I don't know, man... it just feels like the perfect instrument. I don't feel like I could get the same kind of depth by only playing guitar or bass.

    Kawai ES120 or Roland FP30X? I've heard that the kawai has better sound, but it has a dual sensor and i think that's a disadvantage,I also heard that the roland has better action but, but it also has clicky keys and it sucks for me because I'm a beginner and I don't want to deal with repairs etc. Can someone advice me which one to buy?Thanks.(Great playing btw i love it

    • @lorenzomonacelli
      @lorenzomonacelli  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do not know the Kawai, however I personally find the Roland very good. Sure, some keys may become a bit clicky, but the piano is really robust: even playing very intensitively it does not break (I broke an old Yamaha digital piano, and periodically break the coords of my acoustic piano by studying on them, but in almost two years that I have the Roland, the keys did not break.
      Anyway, if you plan to play intensively, an acoustic piano is better even if soundwise the digital ones are nicer.

    I don't know how did I land in here but I'm glad I did. How does the PHA4 action feel in terms of control? Do you struggle to get the expected expression? Fast passages&trills?

    • @lorenzomonacelli
      @lorenzomonacelli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi, I was very surprised for the quality of the keyboard. The feeling with the touch is very good and it is easy to get the expected expression. The piano respond precisely. It is different from an acoustic piano, and you can feel it, but after few hours of practicing I fell confortable on it.
      I had a Yamaha digital piano P-120 before (that now should be at least 16 years old), and I broke the keys many times while practicing. However, the PHA4 keyboard seems much more solid (I have the piano only since 3 months). Indeed, it is way softer than a keyboard of an acoustic piano, but after few hours I fell confortable. Fast passages and trills come naturally, however, I'm still a bit scared of breaking it by playing "glissando" or to study passages with fast strong chords and (as the coda of the second Ballade in F major).

    • @DavidIzquierdoAzzouz
      @DavidIzquierdoAzzouz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lorenzomonacelli thank you Lorenzo for the quick answer, I've tried this action next to a PHA50 and honestly I felt lile they're day and night, none of them felt light to me (IMO they're both on the heavy side compared to an acoustic) but the PHA4 lacked agility, I felt like I'm pressing air or a hollow object when pressing the key quickly (say a staccato).. I may give it another shot and see if it was just me that day maybe.. BYW I heard your ballade F min on the acoustic Yamaha, my second favorite from Chopin, chapeau 👌

    Beautiful playing! How's the action? Sluggish or responsive? Can you play fast passages and trills well on this Roland? Is it worth it?

    • @lorenzomonacelli
      @lorenzomonacelli  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      For the price to me it is worth it. Sure, it is not like a real piano, but I feel that, after getting used, you can play almost every piece and technical passages (I practiced the coda of the first, second and fourth ballade of Chopin and the piano feels responsive). However, I am scared of damaging the keyboard with glissando, but I never tried so maybe is just suggestion.

    • @dragosciocan9320
      @dragosciocan9320 ปีที่แล้ว

      The keys are heavier than a real piano? Some people say that, but I can't take for granted their opinion. You seem to be very professional and experienced in your playing so your words worth more, I guess.

    • @dragosciocan9320
      @dragosciocan9320 ปีที่แล้ว

      And another question... Do you use external speaker? Or this is the sound of internal speakers from Roland?

    • @lorenzomonacelli
      @lorenzomonacelli  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      This is the internal speaker. To me the keyboard feels light, but I guess it depends on the piano you are used to play with. My old acoistic piano had a quite hard and heavy keyboard, while my previous electric piano was much lighter than this one, to the point that you could hardly feel the resistence (which I think is not good in fast passages as it is easier to lose the grip on the keyboard and make the sound more irregular). For my experience, the Roland piano is ligher then most acoustic piano I played. The touch feels a bit different compared to a real piano and takes few hours to get used to it. If you want something that feels exactly as a real piano, it is going to disappoint you. But if you want a practice piano for a reasonable amount that can be played without neighbours complaining, it is a valuable choice.
      The Roland makes it simple to manage the sound intensity of different voices even when played with the same hand, which means that the response of the sound to the touch is very good, even compared with most acoustic piano.

    • @dragosciocan9320
      @dragosciocan9320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the answer! I tested one and it felt pretty right for me. Not like an acoustic, but quite responsive. Does the keys have clunky noises when you press them with the piano turned off? Or are silent? My Roland F-20 (2013 model) is awful in terms of that. That's why I thought that FP30x would be an upgrade.

  • @SWATTECHNOLOGIES

    I have the Roland RD88 with close to identical action as the fp30x, feels great to play. However, the piano sounds on both leave a lot to be desired. I probably got spoiled playing real pianos and high quality VST piano's from Addictive Key's and Pianoteq. Roland, like many others at the below $2000 price range tend to have a thin sound with some tint to it and absolutely no resonance whatsoever. Again, they are nice to play on, but I rarely use their piano sounds.
