  • Have you ever wondered exactly how accurate the DJI Return to Home is? I test in this video multiple times to find out! It wasn't as accurate as I once believed...
    DJI Phantom 3 Standard: click.dji.com/AI_EF1BhEdj5nSbJ...

      Hey this is kind of a noob question but when your trying to lower the quad copter, will it shut off the motors when you pull the left lever all the way down into the locking position? I have been afraid to do that because when I'm close to the ground, it will shut off the motors because it knows its going to land.

    • @fatal_3rr0r
      @fatal_3rr0r 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if your touching the ground but if your in the air it make you decrease altitude a lot faster

      Huddy Buddy no only csc will shut the motors midair (both sticks down and towards eachother)

      Great video! I would like to see you try this again but further away from the structure. I think you may have been getting some multipath error from the GPS signals bouncing off of the garage door. That way have caused some of the positioning error you were seeing.

      Cody Werther tilt the gimbal camera all the way down and just steer using right stick,or just cancel RTH then ctrl manually to land or hand catch

    10 feet really isn't too bad. It's pretty much common sense to have an open area for take off and landing. It was actually more accurate than I thought. Cheers!

    Thanks Carson. I'd say those that have a P3S like myself have seen this. Mine has come back very close but generally it's off by 5 to 10 feet. Do you think the electrical line across the street my skew the GPS data?

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem Dale! Also to answer that question...possibly it might interfere as many other commenters have asked the same question but I haven't ever really noticed them interfering with the drone before but it definitely could be the cause.

  • @kenng5639

    Can the GPS be affected by the clouds (seems like it was a very cloudy day in your vdo)? I heard soneone mention sonething about flying on a cloudy day and the drone may not be very accurate in keeping a steady/solid hover?? or it may not be able to pinpoint its exact position ?? True or false pls someone? Cheers.

    Compass calibration is critically important . I notice nearby there are Power lines , Electric light fittings on your garage . Possibly even steel garage doors . All of these can influence your phantom . Incidentally having your hand over the top centre of your phantom while calibrating can also interfere with the gps location . A good and informative channel Carson . Keep up the great work !
    btw i also have the P3 standard it will return home to within about 3 feet of launch . Greetings from New Zealand .. ;-)

    If you take aircraft to 10- meters or 33-feet before you go from home point it should be very close, I have a mavic and it does very good if I do this before leaving the area. It will land within 2-feet depending on wind.

    • @carsonmtech

    Carson... Watched another video recently, where another DJI pilot tried a similar thing with his drone. He found that during the initial lift off, you need to go directly up (34') from your start point, for the drone to get an accurate picture of where it needs to come back to. He did what you did, take off and fly away. Results were the same as yours. With the initial 34' climb over the spot, drone returned to within a foot of the take off point. Just something to file away in the FYI file. Of course you may not see this response, given the date of your posting.

    Close enough. Love the RTH feature. It's a relief seeing it come home when you lose orientation of the bird and use that function to see it RTH. As its landing, simply control the bird to a better landing spot.

    yeah it says that the accuracy of the GPS for Phantom 3 Standard is
    Horizontal: ±1.5 m
    so if the drone returns about 1.5 m from the home point it is due to GPS :)

      Like someone else said, civilian use of the GPS has a built in inaccuracy. How do you get such a clear picture of your screen? I've put a shield and a "glare resistant " coating on my i-pad mini and, if the sun is shining, I can't see my screen.

Mines come back to around a foot from where it took off everytime so maybe your not setting home point properly. my mavic pro lands it self within 1 or maybe 2 meters but no more i always use the precise landing and with that function it raises at 6 meters slowly and in that time it takes picture of the ground correlated with the gps positioning so i guess that's why it never lands more then 2 meters away from home point, and for the record i use a self made very bright yellow landing pad :)))))))

    When you take off you need to take it up to 10 meters before you start moving away from the take off/home point. Then it will land at exactly where you took off from.

  • @PPGMurse
    @PPGMurse 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you didn't; ensure you do a compass calibration, then let it hover for about 10 seconds to ensure a stable home point. You took off and started flying forward almost immediately. My p3s will land within 3-4 feet every time I use RTH (primarily use it to train my son for the business).
    Noooowww, go over to the P4P (my breadwinner and baby). She'll land within inches everytime (as long as you have a landing surface with character - I have a landing pad). It does this because of improved GPS, the VPS sensors and the fact that when you let it hover for a few moments it will actually record a sensor image of the take off spot directly below it and will realign itself with that upon using RTH.
    The p3s will still get you back home versus being lost though.

    You need to take off and go up 10mtrs above ur take off point then continue your flight, then return to home will be accurate, try it

    10ft is pretty accurate for a commercial GPS signal.

    if you put the left stick all the way down, to where it clicks would it stop flying if you were in the air. because I just avoid putting the stick all the way down because I'm scared it would stop flying mid flight

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope...it doesn't shut off the motors I put the left stick down all the way until it clicks all the time when I'm impatient to get the drone to the ground😂. However, if you put both sticks to the bottom center that is the "Emergency Off" sequence that does shut off all of the motors even if you are far up in the sky. Hope this helps you out:) If you have any other questions feel free to leave another comment!

    GPS isn't precise. With power lines nearby, it is probably not as precise as in other places. I don't think you can blame DJI for the quality of the GPS signal; I am sure the drone came back to the location it believed to be home, from the signal it was receiving. Though it is a bit odd it came back to roughly the same wrong position. I'd want to run the test a couple more times though before believing that wasn't just coincidence.

  • @NoviceQuads

    when I take off I hover above takeoff spot for 10 seconds to make sure I have good GPS lock. 9 times Outta 10 the Drone will be more accurate if you do this on its return home spot

    First of all GPS has an error factor put in it so that you can't use it for a guided missile or something, The P3S only has gps, the models above the standard have both GPS and Glonas satellites so it will be far more accurate and if you shell out for a Matice with the pro upgrade and 3 GPS antennas it will be more accurate again. If you land within 20' of where you took off your doing good
