    tip:use the VRP aim to tell if a platform is above or below your present elevation. if it's above, then it shows the projectile will ricochet, if the platform is below you, the shadow lets you know. that aside, agreed on all points, crosscode is amazing, I am so glad I bought it and speedran through the whole game in 2 weeks busy with so many other things.

      yes I am calling them VRPs right now, my one complaint is how often the nickname was used as a joke. the overuse of it was funny in and of itself, but it did get a little old.

    I love, love, love this game. Always come back to it and love how snappy the combat feels every time.
    When I first played the game a couple years ago, I had no idea that the story would hit so hard. I seriously nearly teared up at one point and did not see those twists coming at all.
    Crosscode is honestly the full package and it's a real shame it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. The people who play it love it to bits, but the unfortunately not too many play it.

    Your misconception about thinking the game was just a way to frame an actual exploration in the form of a game was exactly what I thought the first time through. Then my mind was blown when I caught one conversation in Rhombus Square that prompted me to take a closer look at the encyclopedia. I absolutely love when a story makes me do something like that that presents a new piece of information that completely changes how I view the world.
    [EDIT] You're asking if I want to see a case study of Lea and her muteness along with the Blue Avatar? Sign me up! There are several reviews of this game (which I pretty much have tried to watch all of them) but not as many analyses of the various elements of the game and I really want to see more of them.
    Also Emilea OTP, finally someone who agrees.

      In CrossCode it's kinda wild, the way it wrong-foots you about it. CrossWorlds' story being premise enough for a sci-fi game of this ilk is just strange. I'd call it a mistake for causing confusion but it's not bad enough to cause gripes when everyone who looks a little deeper gets the revelation.
      Thematic Breakdown's coming along well. You'll see it pretty soon!

    • @Llortnerof
      @Llortnerof 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLudomancer I thought it was obvious fairly quickly that that's just the backstory of CrossWorld. There's to many things going on that simply wouldn't make sense in an actual exploration, including there being far to much infrastructure present even in supposedly "remote" locations.
      Though it kinda left me wondering why they bothered with this whole real planet at all. It's gotta have to be cheaper to just simulate it. I suppose it could have something to do with how the control system works, since they apparently have instant communication at interstellar distances. Then again, they somehow didn't think of including text chat, either, so the CrossWorld devs might just be a bit stupid when it comes to simple solutions.

  • @galacticaracer
    @galacticaracer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Perhaps one of my favorite parts of Crosscode is the dialogue that you may not see in most playthroughs. In Appolo's fight, as you described, this is especially apparent. For example, if you try to trick him into attacking your guard counter, he will eventually avoid it, even saying he will not fall for it. Heck, when he checks your gear before the first battle, he actually has commentary for when your gear is way WAY above his (I am talking mid-to-endgame). Oh, and do not get me started on the extra dialogue from NG+.

    Now that you've mentioned the Axis Elements System, I can't stop thinking about how cool it'd be and how often it'd just...Work!
    The amount of new playstyles this could offer for Hybrid elements are absurd. Hell, some of them I'm about to list aren't even that bad, in theory!
    Fire Main, Ice Support - Burn and set up fire DMG, then switch to Ice and block off enemies as they're incinerated!
    Ice (Main DPS), Fire Support - Nothing's stronger than a stupid amount of Ice DMG in one burst, because Hawk you and everyone near you.
    Wave/Elec Hybrid - There's no reason you couldn't combine the ultra-aggressive Element with the aggressive-healing one!
    Wave/Ice - Icicles and Healing turn you half immortal when used right!...Not that I'm someone who can do that yet...
    Anything, Neutral Support - Yes, I'm serious. Use the Bubble Shield Art! It saves lives!

      Guard Sphere is actually used in speedruns against _the final boss_ because it allows you to tank one of his more threatening attacks _while retaliating for massive damage back!_ Guard Sphere when used like this is literally strong enough to skip entire phases. Also First Cut, while fairly slow and not flashy at all, is also used early one to one-shot regular enemies for exp, and I think is also used as a finisher even later into the run.

    Also yeah, the references galore XD there are SO MANY REFERENCES to be found, and some of them went over my head. Not sure if you picked it up but they also blatantly poked fun about the SAO thing too.
    I will admit I did blatantly cheat by using Shisuka when I came back to play again after struggling when I first tried it out, and now doing my second playthrough properly (with a couple NG+ things activated. Mainly perfectly balanced because spamming abilities is fun.) Also don't discount the lvl 2 neutral dash ability. It will absolutely wreck Grass-head in those PvP fights.

    "Shouldn't play with mouse and keyboard" I disagree to the highest extent. Aiming is so much easier with a mouse, and with how hard it can be sometimes, I need immediately be able to aim on a dime. Moving in only the 8 directions allowed by wasd actually helped too, as some of the platforming required precise movement. I have it on both PC and switch, and the difference is huge for me. I know a lot of people prefer controllers, and I really think it is just what you are more comfortable with. It's a really hard game at times, so being confident in the controls is important if you don't want to change the difficulty sliders.
    Edit: sorry, I had strong opinions when you said that. I really enjoyed the video! I would love to see a part 2!

    I have so many things to say about CrossCode, but like, enough to make me write here for 20+ minutes, that I'll just choose one random thing to talk about to try to control myself, also spoilers
    This is amongst the best games I've ever played in my entire life, not best indie game, but best game, and if I had to choose a random reason for it, I'd choose writting, it's been years since a game has made me want to read every single possible line of dialogue, not that I do all the time, I'll be honest, some npc quest start dialogues are just the same, but even so I can still get some of the best laughs of my entire life with the npcs, like how every npc has a set box of dialogue, and Lea being the adorable mute she is, trying to use her few words whoever she can and the npcs just absorbing all information they needed from it, like, a moment I was talking to a guard about the quest of goats and parrots, and Lea said her catchphrase, and at the same time the guard just knew about the organized mafia operation they where doing, I lost my shit when that happened; and that's not even mentioning the character's banters, how they tell a consistent and straightforward narrative, like for example, in Sapphire Ridge, Tronny asking Emilie why she's not scared of spiders, and she saying that it's because they are not bugs, which should be obvious for Tronny in particular, and the reason she says it should be obvious is that waaaay before in the plot, Emilie asked what his major was, and he said he was studying biology, that's a joke you can only get if you pay attention to it, another thing, consistency, Emilie's hate of bugs has to be the most consistent and specific joke ever made, like, she prefers the fucking midboss than the boss for the second dungeon, what the fuck girl lol, and how everyone reacts and talks about it, it's incredible, and that's not even me mentioning how much more you learn about characters and how characters learn about each other, like Tronny and his problems with caves having water flowing, and Emilie's anticipation to see Tronny in a dungeon surrounded by water that has water, and then the motherfucker explain why his suspension of disbelief is intact, and I just had to pause to laugh and fuckin agree with the chad itself, also how I discovered that Joern and Apollo are lovers, waaaay before Joern talking about it in the dlc, just bc I paid attention to their interactions, and I'm mad for not thinking that was the case before, but I was thinking they really just had a huuuge bromance, not a romance; and all of that and I didn't even mentioned the actual writting, the cutscenes, my God, Lea's breakdown in chapter 7, hurt me, her reactions and expressions where just spot on, and now my friend is playing through it and I can't wait to see his reaction to it, or how I actually got mad at Emilie at chapter 8, keep in mind, she was my favorite character the whole game up to that point, and I just felt betrayed, and when they hugged at the ending, I cried of relief; The way Lea tries her best to express despite having an alphabet shorter than a toddler, the way she makes up for it with body language, the way she gets frustrated when that's not enough, or when she cries bc she just wants to say she's sorry and she can't, it is all so well written, you can't even begin to put into words how much love went into this, so yeah, that's just one random fucking reason why CrossCode may just be the best game I've ever played

    • @leonardodelimaferreira8509
      @leonardodelimaferreira8509 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And one last thing, I might be the minority or the only one here, but I hope so much that Emilie gets together with Tronny, their chemistry is among the best in this game, the way she constantly tries to tease him, just for him to be SO SOCIALLY AWKWARD, THAT HE STRAIGHT UP DOESN'T GET THE TEASE AND STRAIGHT UP EXPLAINS WHAT SHE TEASED HIM, and this dynamic is like, 70-30 for Tronny to actually win against Emilie, it's the best thing ever, also, I'm currently doing A New Home, Tronny just got back, I'm scared, like a lot, when I saw the parallels at chapter 9 or 10, I swear, I preferred that someone stabbed me right in the throat, it would've hurt less than that, and I'm hopeful he gets a happy ending, pretty fucking please

Which allowed me to use all elements early and get the Fire circuit ability, Once More (if a hit would normally kill you you survive at 1hp). And the crazy thing is, if you heal above 1hp it activates AGAIN. However, it's still difficult enough to put you in an asylum, and a lot of attacks are multihit so they just kill you even with Once More. I tried playing it on switch and just could not get used to the relative aiming with a joystick. I also may or may not have developed my own hand position just for shield-dash-cancelling. There is probably something to your preferring ranged attacks. Gamepad seems like it tends to be preferred for melee combat, while the mouse seems to be preferred for ranged combat. Given how many of the puzzles in the game are based around precise shots, I can see those being a lot more frustrating for a gamepad user.

    I think the reason why CC's "filler" works so well is because it isn't just filling space: it's actually progressing the b-plot of Lea making friends in CrossWorlds. Her adventures with her guild aren't stuff that you could just take out without affecting what comes next, because through them, Lea's bond with them grows and her relationship with them is more defined. We get to see more of their personalities and most importantly, how they affect each other and Lea.
    Bad "filler" is filler because it has no effect on anything. Good "filler" is actually letting you see the characters interact and grow to know each other or the world more.
