    Nice to see a clean install on a POV, very nice job the console really sets it over the top! So many times you see these guys with cigarette lighter plugs plugged up everywhere and an entanglement of wires and nothing but suction cups. It is not that difficult to do a real install if you have a basic understanding of 12 Volt DC and how to pull trim panels on a car and dress along the factory harness. Check out Feniex they offer a great combination of features for the money, we use them in a lot of our Builds for L/E, Fire and EMS, albeit no one stacks up against Whelen in my opinion, but Whelen is insanely expensive comparatively.

    Nice video. I used STL for a while. Good budget lights. I stopped using them for a few reasons. They do not offer USPS shipping which is MUCH cheaper than Fedex or UPS, however, I noticed they will sometimes ship USPS (saves them $$$) even if you select the other carriers. I had problems syncing lightheads just as you do. I had one of the 3-pin microphones that failed. Other than that, great products. Very bright, I didn't have any moisture problems, and I had two Z4's that survived a front end collision that nearly totaled the car. I replaced everything with Whelen. Expensive, but I was tired of the issues I was having with STL. Stay safe brother.

    Hey! Great set up. Its simple and clean. And aside from sound works! I 100% agree with you with the flash patterns. The thing that catches the eye is not a highspeed flash. its a lower speed heavy flash. Something that we notice either on or off from the corner of our vision. The old halogen wig wags and rotator bars worked so well cause the light would (yes flash past) but would focus all of the light, and it would punch that light to you. Compared to the quick blips the typical LED gets programmed to do. triple and up to 5 times flashing in one hit are no good. its not punchy enough. Great clean setup!

      The Tomar 930N is punchy as heck. I'd say about as punchy as Mike Tyson in his prime except they might bite your eyes off. The Neobe pattern and lightheads will grab your attention and hold on for dear life.

  • @brianpeniuk6202
    @brianpeniuk6202 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've used stl products for a while because that's all i can afford. As far as their lights go, provided they don't keep getting more expensive like they are, they work great. I have only had moisture issues with one grill light. The siren is another story. The tones sound like a dying cat and don't move traffic, i used it as a secondary siren for a while before I just took it out. As far as how loud it is, that seems to depend on the speaker. Running it through a cone speaker it seemed to do fine, but the compact ones it didnt seemt to like.

      I probably need to post a retraction... STL makes a great product. I have had the setup for 8 months now and everything has worked every time. I used 20 gauge wiring to the speaker because it's what I had left. The factory leads out of the speaker are 18Ga. I noticed some signs of heating on the vinyl so I replaced the wiring with 16/2. BIG DIFFERENCE! now at 30 ft I am reading 135dB. If I have to gripe about anything no it will be the fact that some of the light mods are taking on condensation, and the siren tones are unconventional from the brand names. I was way too harsh on STL in the video. If you are looking for a budget build that provides EFFECTIVE warning power, STL is great for that.
      Kroger, I was looking on your page... you might not be able to see it, but You might just like the chrome emblem I have between the back door windows and the back window of my suburban.

    I also have STL lights. The key to syncing the lights together is first having all the lights on the pattern you want before connect the white sync wires. Secondly you have to have all the lights on the same sync. You cannot put 2 on regular sync and 2 on alternative sync with blue wire. You have to alternate sync all the lights together or keep them on regular sync with just the white wires. Also i had to take and put two white wires together on two lights and two ehite wire together on the other set of lights then take a single wire and connect those two groups together to get all the lights synced together. Atleast that worked fjr me i have 10 pc Z-3 and 6pc Z-4 on my Toyota Tundra

    Whent from the same siren and speaker to a show me remote siren and a Carson speaker both rated at 100 watts and it is night and day difference. Stl is good. In my opinion the have the best gutter brackets for mounting lightbars. Have there gutter brackets holding my tomar bar in my 2005 GMC sierra

    • @dustinamy5355
      @dustinamy5355  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      wqdy949 I have added a second siren, A code 3 hideaway 100w. Majorly over powers the STL. The speaker itself just doesn't seem to have the proper size magnet in it. It's very lightly weighted compared to the generic 100w horn speaker I put on the other side. I also hooked up the STL Final to the new speaker and I will say it's a bit louder, but still lacks the umph you get from the Code 3, So, I put it back the way it was. Now I have both sirens running different selectable tones and they do great together, but I feel that STL Sirens are not very effective as a stand alone system. Sounds good as a companion to a more mainstream brand name tho. The last two videos that I posted has me responding with both sirens. I still stand behind STL for their lighting, especially the 3rd Gen stuff made with better aluminum. For the money and warranty, they are very effective. Now they just need to work on their control box options and sirens and they can be right up there with the bigger named manufacturers.

Blue is strictly for the police. I have a WOLO Watchman low profile LED Mini Light Bar. 7827MP-R 360 Deg. With 24 different light patterns. I love it! I don't know where my siren is from, (Brand?) 100% agree with you on the siren! Totally not up to par. I use one on my personal car and I am not heard unless I am right up on someone. My lights do all the work, my siren, does not. The ONLY reason I bought the siren because it was super super affordable, that's it. If I had $300 or more I would always buy Whelen siren, period. Just so much louder and way better. Anyhow, great video.

      I've done more research... I only get 62 watts from my STL "100 W" siren. I've heard other people talk about getting Whelen sirens, but me personally, I don't like the lower frequency tone from Whelen. My favorite tones are from SVP, Fed Sig, and Code3. Much higher frequency sound, with the right amount of punch. I have a Code3 3050 along with my STL Final now, some of my recent videos have both going. You can hear the volume difference big time between the two, but you can also get the sense of what I mean by the higher frequency tone.

    That's a goofy siren. Normally the volume adjustment is only for the PA. There should never be a reason to reduce volume on a siren tone. Such as with the Federal Signal PA300 which is "old," the volume knob is the on/off switch just the same. Regardless what the volume is set at, the siren tones are always at full volume, however.

      I agree. Just one of the reasons I think STL should completely overhaul their siren program.

      The PA300 is still alive and well. Galls sells a rebranded version too. It's an old design, yes, but it works quite nicely!

    The other drivers pass you cuz they know you ain't a cop.. mainly because you have a huge FF sticker on your rear window.. No one on earth would think that was a police vehicle. Lookin good though!
    BTW the lights don't sync because you have them on direct power instead of running them trough an actual board.

    Texas allows pov's to have red and blue lights a full size light bar and sirens?
    Volunteer fire in illinois are only allowed blue lights no sirens and only mini light bars,no full sized light bars on their pov's.

    Dustin Amy, I was considering in purchasing some STL products. I was looking at one of their LED Bars on sale but was curious on how they hold up to weather?

    • @dustinamy5355
      @dustinamy5355  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zach Lundy, the ones that are on my vehicle have had some issues. STL was long aware of these condesation issues, and with their current line up, seem to have fixed the weathering issue. I have a set of GEN 3 Z-4s on the push bar that have been there for the last 14 months. Made of aluminum instead of plastic, they are holding up very well, but I need to replace the rest of the Z-4s before my warranty is up at the end of this month. more than half of them have condensation in them. The K-Force light bar get condensation every now and then, but I can actually remove the light head and dry out the optics. The new bars have better enclosures, but I do not know how they hold up to condensation.

    VERY sweet set up...... It seems like you VFD guys spend more time putting lights all over your POV's than training, etc. It's fun though if you want to spend the money, looks cool, and makes people think you're something. I'm really interested..... does your state allow audible devices and allow you to run as an emergency vehicle in your POV? In my state VFD lights are a "courtesy light" and traffic does not have to clear as responding VFD has to obey all traffic laws. Can you help me out with this?

      TheDozercon I’m in Colorado and we use Red/Blue, So does Arizona, Washington state, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah And a bunch more, It just depends what the department wants, Like California fire only uses red for fire and blue/red for LEO but for most of the country red or blue color is know for emergency vehicles. Heck I know Wyoming uses red on tow trucks

    • @dustinamy5355
      @dustinamy5355  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      All new from STL. All the products bought and installed at the same time, I spent around $1200 for the lot. Free shipping except for the lightbar. The second gen products that are out now are way better quality that some of the minor issues that I have been dealing with on the lights that are on my truck. i.e., they are using cast aluminum housings instead of plastic on the Z-4s. And they stand behind their products with a 2 or 5 year warranty. Had them for a year now, and as with anything, proper installation will ensure that it will work effectively. People still move out of my way, and that's the whole reason they are on my truck. Just the other day, My chief said he could see me coming from more than a mile down a straight road.

    Ya, well im not old enough to become a volunteer firefighter yet, but I was talking about how im gonna put lights all over my car xD even tho the station is like 3 minutes down the street. And its sad because we can only have blue lights, and I dont believe we can have a sire. :( unlike u xD

    • @dustinamy5355
      @dustinamy5355  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +TheCrazyGamer89 I remember when I was 17. There was a couple of vollys in my high school, and they had lights on their trucks. I was wanting to be a fireman soo bad so I could put lights on my car too. Thats what started it for me. After 2 and a half decades of service, I can say this: just wanting that kind of power over other drivers is a curse. Be sure you want to do the JOB. It's the most rewarding job I can think of doing whether you get paid or not. Just don't do it for the wrong reasons. I got into my share of trouble when I was younger, and some of that was because of lights on my car. Thank you for wanting to join the greatest brotherhood in the world, you'll do great. Work hard, never stop learning. And as you can see, I still like lights and sirens, it never gets old.

    • @TheCrazyGamer89
      @TheCrazyGamer89 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dustin Amy Well even tho i really want the lights,out of my class mates, im really mature, im not a bad dude, and i would never abuse that sort of power. abusing it would 1. get you in trouble, and 2. slow you down from getting to save people.
      I am also starting to get in fit for the job because im not really in fit right now.

    • @dustinamy5355
      @dustinamy5355  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dylan Chalmers that depends. If running code 3, then yes, as long as the traffic environment will allow. If the firefighter does not have lights AND siren, then absolutely not. He/She must obey traffic laws. I can only speak for the state of Texas, however I can't imagine any state allowing a non code vehicle to disregard traffic laws.
