His wife at the time was named Lenora - Lenny is her nickname - the guitar in this video, Stevie liked but could not afford it, Lenny got some of Stevie's friends to chip in and she bought it for him- He sat at the foot of the bed that night and wrote this song for his wife Lenny - he also named this guitar Lenny

No musicians like this walking this earth anymore. Anyone can learn his songs if given the time but they won’t sound like him. There is so much going on when he plays that the average person doesn’t see. Things like him muting all the strings except the ones he wants you to here. Using his thumb on the top string because he had unbelievably huge hands. The fact that his strings where extremely heavy gauge and he bent them so far he would regularly break them. And like you said biz he didn’t even read music.

If you really really want to know just how great Stevie Ray Vaughan really was check out some of his life story documentaries on TH-cam. You will forever be impressed by the man💜. His passion was on a different level than most artist. His guitar setup is unheard of. Most people couldn't dare play the way he had his strung with very thick heavy strings and high I've heard men say it would rip your fingers off. But I also heard in a documentary that he was doing a show and his calluses came off, yet he super glued them back on his fingertips and kept playing!!!! Like seriously who do you know of that's on that level?🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸 RIP STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN 💜💜💜

Ok, bottom line is there are no other guitarist that can do what Stevie did. But there are great guitarist who shine at what they do. David Gilmore of Pink Floyd, Gary Rossington, Zack Wylde, James Hetfied of Metallica, Roy Clark ,Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed. All from different genres. All great in their own way. And Hendrix of course. Now the next song from Stevie I would suggest Life Without You (Live in Pasaic, NJ) I think you'll be impressed. Great reactions!!!

And shout out to Stevie's memory, gone thirty years ago yesterday in a helicopter crash. The day music died for a lot of us.

The guitar he plays here is also known as "Lenny."
It was a gift from his then-wife, Lenora "Lenny" Bailey, that she gave to him in 1980.
True story: In 2018 I was in Guitar Center in Austin, TX, wandering around, looking at guitars I can't afford, when I turned around at a glass case and found myself standing face-to-face with *_this exact guitar_* that he's playing here! Apparently Guitar Center had "Lenny" on loan from his estate. That was January, 2018. I don't know if it's still there now in September, 2021. But if you find yourself in Austin it's worth checking out.

There are a few acts from time to time still give the fans a treat, The Rolling Stones, The Tragically Hip (before Gord died) and some others, would sometimes just show up and play as the house band at bars they used to do on the road when they were first coming up. Nothin better than going to the local for a cheap beer and getting to see a legend for free!

" Taj Farrent 10 year old progeny. Kenny Wayne Shepard. Bonamassa....Still none as great as Stevie. He started learning when he was 7 but played at bars in Texas when he was 13 or so. Played w Albert King. Stevie Wonder, On David Bowie #1 hit. Hes the guitar although Bowie pretended on his video cause Stevie backed out from world tour cause he was loyal to his bass n drum guys. Kenny Wayne Sheppard can get close somewhat close to this level. John Mayer can play the shit out of a guitar too but you have to look up his blues stuff not the stuff he make for radio.

His brother Jimmie is awesome too. Played with a band The Fabulous Thunderbirds 70s-80s. He played with Stevie and Double Trouble occasionally. Besides “Pipeline” if you get a chance check out Jimmie in “Full Time Lover” Capitol Theater😎RIP SRV my avatar 🤠

Kenny Wayne Shepherd comes closest out of current artists, IMHO. There are many incredible guitarists but KWS seems to have some of same feeling. Kenny has a beautiful instrumental himself check out

Did you see “Shame...” at Montreux 2019? Kenny goes beast in the middle and I swear channeled Stevie, even some licks from “Aint Gone N Give Up on Love”: chills. Sounded JUST like Stevie for few seconds 😎

The only person who can compare to Stevie Ray Vaughan and has been debated time and time again on who is better. That is Jimi Hendrix

The Soul of Stevie Ray is back on the planet, in the form of our young 11yo Taj Farrant.
Check out his whole channel, but start with his version of Lenny. th-cam.com/video/O-V8Yv4m9Xs/w-d-xo.html

Jimi is number 1 but so is Stevie Ray Vaughan. This song is the one song on guitar you will NEVER hear played by anyone correctly. Stevie was 2nd to no one.

Unfortunately, since Stevies time music has devolved not evolved.

I'm gonna put it out there that Gary Moore is probably the closest skill wise to Stevie you're going to get and show wise as well
