@13r12ad Where's the need to bring that up though? Clearly this is a discussion for PC, this game was made originally made for PC and some people don't play console. Keep the chat fair brother
Keep in mind, that iPresentInterval=0 may cause you another problem. Indoors, while wearing PA, your character may sometime stop responding to move buttons and appear as stuck. The workaround usually involves turning headlight on \ off. This is due to framerate sometimes going haywire without lock and game engine tries to sync freezing your character.

thanks for the video turtle, Iam running this fix since you first a video about custom inis, with windos 11 i have the unfortuanate Problem with encountering micro freezes ever few minutes (game freezes sound goes on, an after a few seconds game relaoads, graphics run super fast and i have to deal with everything that happend in the freezes) i found videos on YT that say it has to do with Multi core prozessors that go over quad core ( i have a 10 core), and disabling cores in Task manager should fix it, it improves the situation for me but dont fixes it. if you had a solution for it i would highly apreciate it, as especially running low health builds is a challange as proc perks like serendipity dont seam to work while in the freeze phase. PS: i send you a trade offer on your discord (as the dark poet) have a look at it would love to give something back for all the help you give us :)
i did that and now while in power armor i cant move when looking down or while in a building. i get out of thew armor i can move just fine, so i have to set it back.
So I had watched your earlier video (from 2 years ago maybe) saying to put "ipresentinterval 0" in the custom ini file, which I did. I still never got above 80fps., after watching this I searched for it and found it in the original ini file set to 1, I removed this and now get 144fps which is the limit I set in the nvidia control panel as a default (my monitor max fps). So it looks like it acts on the first mention of the variable, and not later ones. I had already disabled vsync and triple buffering globally in the nvidia control panel as my monitor is gsync compatible and never gets tearing. you may think that from 80fps to 144 would not be a great improvement, but it most definately is immediately noticeable, not so much the fps, but the response is so much sharper, and the lag is almost gone. Thank you for getting me to check my earlier changes. I did wonder why I only got 80fps max when both the cpu and gpu (3090) were running at most 30% utilised. I am still not getting much above 50% utilisation on an ultrawide 3840x1600 native resolution, but hey that's the fastest it will go, why render frames faster than you can display?
Oh that's interesting about the options, advanced mods, that should make it easier to determine what's on the weapons and the grenade targeting as if you set something in VATS to head and it locks on a mine it will change back to torso so then you need to change back to head again and flicking the mouse wheel tend to over shoot what you are after. As for mouse well I use default because I have changed the sensitivity directly on my mouse from 2000dpi to 3500dpi, I think I need to turn off mouse acceleration in windows as I am suffering from sharp movement and over shooting, wish there was a an option for that in game as i like it in windows but it's a problem in game. I play the game from Microsoft store and have to use full screen as if you use borderless it half's your frame rate, from 100fps to 50fps which to me is unplayable.
Unfortunately disabling presentinterval causes me an enormous amount of screen tearing when inside a building that no option or fps cap is able to solve
On another note, the shadow rendering distance is very very high even at low settings. I would advice you to try lowering that from the .ini file. Im currently testing with fShadowDistance=10000.0000 fDirShadowDistance=10000.0000 and the game seems to stutter less, but more importantly it takes less time to load other elements and structures. (note that standard values for low and ultra setting are 60k and 150k)

the reason for bethesda locking fps is because if you run more than about 200 fps the game grenades and you cant move when in an instanced zone. dont get me wrong i still unlocked it but i had to manually set the max fps in control panel manually.to 175 and im sure bethesda is locking it to be safe. however i feel they should lock it at a higher fps that 60. even 120 would be good for majority of players
Unlocking frames break the game assuming you have a decent video card. Interesting note on Linux the game runs at your screens refresh rate. Flawless. On Linux I run 165fps with zero issues. On Windows I have to limit frames to 80fps or movement breaks in interiors.
is the leveling system broken or what! It appears to take longer to level up, highly noticeable near the last 1000 xp before leveling, it takes forever even using relish, tone, sleep, brainbombs! what gives!?😕
Natively, no. Power armor and a variant of mentats highlights but only living creatures. Awkcr mod however allows you to mod eyeglaases to highlight corpses ( it also introduces more underarmor options and allows wearing armor pieces over most clothing. ARMORED BATHROBE HELL YEAAAAAH )
There's no point. The game won't change anything in there unless you specifically go in settings and try to change something, and all of this will reset once you restart the game because you set the files read only. I keep mine unchecked, and iPresentInterval is still 0 unless I change graphics settings.
I'm still surprised "advanced mod description" is even a setting. It should be always on, it shouldn't be it's own .ini variable. Just show all the info for everyone by default. Interesting info about fullscreen. It is dx11 game, not dx12, it should work better with fullscreen and other people are also claiming they have better performance in fullscreen. You just skipped over shadow distance? It is the most intence graphics setting there.
First message was deleted for some reason... try lowering shadow draw distance in preferences.ini I doubt you notice shadows 10,000ft away nevermind 90k and its a huge performance boost. fShadowDistance=90000.0000 fDirShadowDistance=90000.0000
Make sure it is only present in the file ONCE. I had 2 lines, one said 1 and the other said 0, I deleted the line that set it to 1 and hey presto, it worked, however this does depend on your graphics chip, laptops have slow graphics chips due to heat dissipation and battery issues. you are better off with a desktop. Most laptops are aimed at buisness users who never need to use 3d.
Still cant get rid of random stutters, and i think 90 percent of the player base has this problem, bethesdas old engine i guess. Never a problem on any other game!
id force vsync off in nvidia control panel (if youre used to having it on) besides doing the ini tweak in this video, then use rivatuner with scanline sync of MINUS 180 (-180) to force the screen tear line as far as possible to the bottom or top of the screen rather than the middle. u may need to change this number to get better results for yourself though, but as long it can maintain 60fps it should be good. u can leave the fps cap alone since scanline sync will automatically cap your framerate to your monitor HZ. this will give you all the benefits of fast responsive mouse and good framepacing, with as little as screentearing as possible

if you had a solution for it i would highly apreciate it, as especially running low health builds is a challange as proc perks like serendipity dont seam to work while in the freeze phase.
PS: i send you a trade offer on your discord (as the dark poet) have a look at it would love to give something back for all the help you give us :)
i did that and now while in power armor i cant move when looking down or while in a building. i get out of thew armor i can move just fine, so i have to set it back.
it can happened when you fps goes too high, simple solution is setting fps cap to 120
So I had watched your earlier video (from 2 years ago maybe) saying to put "ipresentinterval 0" in the custom ini file, which I did.
I target thowables to shoot at the feet of enemies.. no bouncing around.. almost like an impact grenade.
I love camera shake 😎 super immersive 😅 things get crazy 🤪
Oh wow, I didn't know about the ipresent=0 trick .. what a difference!
Thank you Mr 🐢, didn't notice there are so many new settings.
I cant find the ini file in my files. Only different configuration settings
Edit: never found it but if you have a lower end pc, you can turn off grass rendering entirely. Helped get me to 60fps
First time install steamversion and in the .ini ipresent was 0 at default
what's your pc?
I’ve got the ROG Ally extreme edition I love the power of this thing
mr turtle ,, this only removes the 60fps cap on game right?
it also removes input lag, if you want 60fps setting fps limiter and removing vsync should give smoother experience
@@AngryTurtle I remember many years ago I went into the I and I and took the cap frame rate off and it was the same thing by turning a number from 1 to 0 .. I did it however I figured afterwards that the monitor I was using was only maximum 60 fps .. and felt a little bit weird .. if this is a different line I should try it out thanks for the tip
well i did what you said and i have a super PC now my fps goes to 1590 FPS no the 0 is not a mistake. and the geme is freezing any way to set the FPS ?
if you have nvidia you can set fps limit directly from card settings
No glowing bodies for immersion purposes.....but also no visible pip boy menu and power armor hud because screw immersion......👁️👄👁️
Ok.... but how to handle the the character not wanna move then at the indoor location?
for most new graphics cards you can set fps cap and from the fact you're experiencing this issue In guessing you have new graphics card
set your gpu's fps limit to your monitor's max refresh rate and you're good to go
Most probably your framerate is too high.. cap it to like 120 fps in your graphics card setting and it should resolve that issue.
Wtf the ini change is insane!!! Hard stuck at 55 fps now I’m over 200💀
Hard while it is annoying and it doesn’t take up a lot of pretty contrary to what you said it gives way more information. The regular hot doesn’t give you really any information except your health. I did learn from Beno that deal with the bad part out grenades in mine side didn’t know that it’s so annoying and freshly had some of theplants where all over the ground
I found an angry turtle today and I thought about this channel
After i changed the pref.ini, my character started to bug inside of buildings :( ...hes simply getting stuck to nothing
what's your hardware?
Cap your FPS to 140 or 135. Bethesda also copied this bug over from FO4
@@AngryTurtle 4090 + i9 13900k...
@@drdodgemodz2277 i tryd that, even if i feel stupid about having a 244hz screen and capping the frames so low.. But it didnt fix the Problem. Even tryd 60fps
Holy smokes! That's completely different game! Thank you a lot!
Full screen works way better for me went from 60-50 fos to 120 FPS. My pc is 6 years old maybe thats why? Try that guys.
Huh. I thought we had to lower overall graphics settings to low from the menu, and then manually increase all the settings to whatever we wanted (ultra for textures, etc.) for maximum effect.
Hmm had to turn iPresentInterval=1 back on, at 0 it seems to turn off vsync and i am getting around 350-400fps and the game really doesn't like it, keep getting stuck
what's your graphic card? for powerful pc setting up fps cap at like 120 fixes that
@@AngryTurtle RTX4070 Ti Super running at max setting 3440x1440 and a Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor.
I have decided to go with the FPS lock of 97fps as it's a 100Hz monitor so 120fps i will get screen tearing. Seems fine with that the graphics card is snoozing at 40% utilisation and base clocks so it only using around 80watts of power. I use MSI afterburner to monitor what's going on.
Was just watching a video on how to optimize my Xbox. Hope some of this works for us too!
Link?
Doesn’t the normal .ini resets after every update ? Shouldn’t you change those settings in custom ini ?
it doesn't reset, custom ini at least in my case can't override the prefs ini
wow, I turned the ipresentInterval config off and now the game is running at 200+ fps... what config was that?!
Turns off vsync. It isn’t a good thing. Physics break after 144 fps. You should cap it at 144.
it's very old vsync system
what happened to audio?
“Unless you’re experiencing crashes”…………… Myeah just every single time…😂😂😂
Welp after changing the ini setting i was rewarded with having my pc crash every time I open the game...even after changing the settings...thanks for that
maybe your fps goes too high did you try a limit in your graphics card settings?
@@AngryTurtle I did, idk I had to change around the fullscreen and reset the present settings within the ini to be able to start it back up. cant play the game in fullscreen without it crashing again but im sure if do a full reinstall would fix it
Turtle! Changing this setting (ipresent to 0) overheated my vga while playing fallout 76! My pc almost flew up! I changed it back to 1, and the problem was gone. I'm using a RTX2070 (i know its old, but not 10 years old) Thought U should know about it.
what fps cap did you set?
@@AngryTurtle I did not :D :D I see the problem now. Thanks! I should have read all the comments below...
the reason for bethesda locking fps is because if you run more than about 200 fps the game grenades and you cant move when in an instanced zone. dont get me wrong i still unlocked it but i had to manually set the max fps in control panel manually.to 175 and im sure bethesda is locking it to be safe. however i feel they should lock it at a higher fps that 60. even 120 would be good for majority of players
No field of view setting on ps5😢
Can you fight CrazyRussianHacker on a fist fight?
Unlocking frames break the game assuming you have a decent video card. Interesting note on Linux the game runs at your screens refresh rate. Flawless. On Linux I run 165fps with zero issues. On Windows I have to limit frames to 80fps or movement breaks in interiors.
Fallout works on linux 😳
@@AngryTurtle Yes. Since Steamdeck. Most games do.
I'm on widows, I only get stuck in interiors with over 200fps. Capped it to 160fps and been perfectly fine
My computer barely plays the game.
Low and everything off except subtitles
is the leveling system broken or what! It appears to take longer to level up, highly noticeable near the last 1000 xp before leveling, it takes forever even using relish, tone, sleep, brainbombs! what gives!?😕
highlight corpses is 1 of best options for me, is there mod for highling corpses for fallout 4 ?
Natively, no. Power armor and a variant of mentats highlights but only living creatures.
Awkcr mod however allows you to mod eyeglaases to highlight corpses ( it also introduces more underarmor options and allows wearing armor pieces over most clothing. ARMORED BATHROBE HELL YEAAAAAH )
And make the .ini file READ only when you're done adjusting it!
There's no point. The game won't change anything in there unless you specifically go in settings and try to change something, and all of this will reset once you restart the game because you set the files read only. I keep mine unchecked, and iPresentInterval is still 0 unless I change graphics settings.
How to get more than 60fps?
what GPU do you have?
I'm still surprised "advanced mod description" is even a setting. It should be always on, it shouldn't be it's own .ini variable. Just show all the info for everyone by default.
Interesting info about fullscreen. It is dx11 game, not dx12, it should work better with fullscreen and other people are also claiming they have better performance in fullscreen.
You just skipped over shadow distance? It is the most intence graphics setting there.
game is very laggy on ps4 slim, no solution? or buy a ps5?
great video, tho iPresentInterval was already 0 for me, even tho I never changed it
Very Helpful !
Dude i was just about to ask how did you get specific numbers on stats from mods for your weapons! Thank you!
still no settings for the actual server youre on.
Thank you!
I was disappointed to find my ipresent was already set to 0. However I bet my laptop still needs switched.
First message was deleted for some reason...
try lowering shadow draw distance in preferences.ini I doubt you notice shadows 10,000ft away nevermind 90k and its a huge performance boost.
fShadowDistance=90000.0000
fDirShadowDistance=90000.0000
Anyone else get increased lag after changing the ipreset setting?
Still cant get rid of random stutters, and i think 90 percent of the player base has this problem, bethesdas old engine i guess. Never a problem on any other game!
mine dont say ini -.-
it's just hidden file extension is always there
Unfortunately on console we don't have a fov-slider.
The ini fix is one for character, or the change is for all of them?
for all
No more custom .ini or Nvidia tweaks needed? Should we undo them if we followed your previous video for this?
it's still good to do all of those to further improve the game, the one I showed here is just the most important of them all
Settings changed in ini files are separate and invisible from ingame settings menu. Ingame you don't have as much power as in ini files.
id force vsync off in nvidia control panel (if youre used to having it on) besides doing the ini tweak in this video, then use rivatuner with scanline sync of MINUS 180 (-180) to force the screen tear line as far as possible to the bottom or top of the screen rather than the middle. u may need to change this number to get better results for yourself though, but as long it can maintain 60fps it should be good. u can leave the fps cap alone since scanline sync will automatically cap your framerate to your monitor HZ. this will give you all the benefits of fast responsive mouse and good framepacing, with as little as screentearing as possible
Thanks !
top Turtle tips, ta!
@angryturtle
Love your videos, but for content like this I cannot follow your advice with my add and limited monitors.
EVERY. step I have to pause, alt tab, find in the game, tab back because I forgot, etc.
PLEASE FOR ACCESSABILITY SAKE PUT A WRITTEN LIST OF SETTINGS IN YOUR DISC IR COMMENTS.
IL watch the video, get the list on screen, and them adjust. 100x easier for your viewers than this rambling tab nightmare you are subjecting to me sir.
Mad respect for your presentation and knowledge, but THIS. SHIT. NEEDS. A. WRITTEN. LIST.
Ничего нового для меня, но видео полезное! :)
Ipresentinterval sets your frame rate cap to half your refresh rate… buy a 500hz monitor you get 250 fps
you should try and get a 2nd mic for your new setup the audio quality is noticeably lower
Your character is starving!
Turtle. What is wrong with your mic ?
Oddly the ipresentInterval=0 makes my fps worse....
what's your pc?
@@AngryTurtle an old potato, but it runs FO76 at an average of 30 - 60fps most of the time on High settings. i5, 1060 3gb card, 16gb ram
edit: tried the ipresentinterval=0 again, but limited the GPU to max fps just below monitor refresh at 74 and getting 50 - 74fps consistently now :) thanks for the tips and that grenade setting was a godsend!
Nope, i bought Fallout 76 for €8,50 and not changing anything in .ini, not risking to getting be banned again. The AMD Adrenaline software does enough with a my 5800X 3D and 6700XT boost the game enough and playing the game at max settings.
how the fuck do you thing changing visual settings gets you banned. jesus christ
how the fuck did you get banned for an .ini lol
I use GeForce Now because I don't have a good pc
Turtle please help me with my fixer build I’m not seeing the number that I should
