@@Mr_Lou Well, the fact that the headset works outside under bright sunlight conditions is actually HUGE. The biggest reason I want to use it outside is because people have these things called "backyards" sometimes. The Quest 2 does NOT work in direct sunlight because its too bright and it wont track the controllers. I wonder if the quest 3 will track the controllers outside, and not just only your hands.
The Quest 3 will appeal to more than just gamers. Same thing with the Apple Vision Pro. This is a good thing, because we want the industry to grow. We want headsets to become more mainstream so more developers develop content for them. Better MR apps, and better games.
Without PC advertisements this is only going to turn people off to VR, much like the 90% of Quest 2 owners who don't use them. The graphics are poor & my PSVR 1 blows Quest 3 standalone out the water. As of yet no for acceptance - buy a long shot . Debateable whether more than gamers adopt the Quest3 and if anyone adopts the Apple VP at it's price and risk. Gamers in general are skeptical of VR/AR/MR as many have the attitude that it is a gimmick and/or dead. And that argument has real legs if you look at usage stats. General users are much much further removed from acceptance. Apple VP may be a complete flop.
Dude, you're spot on reguarding the state of Meta's AR. Meta's distracted creating this silly Metaverse that is nothing more that a nerds prediction of what the free market would naturally produce from VR and AR in 30 years. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg's blind to what the market wants right now.
I posted a tiktok making a pizza and watching your last video in the quest 3 and was very surprised at how much traction it got. People are really interested in the ar part of it
It won't be too long when someone gets mugged for their Vision Pro. They may not steal the headset, but they know that person has a lot of money. I'll stick with my Meta Quest Poor when taking it outdoors lol.
We knew this was going to take place. I just didn't expect other people to be jumping in on this so soon. Mixed Reality really was the right move! Come one Quest 3 Pro!
I don't see them doing a pro. Not until they shift to make games for the Quest 4. Knowing the quest 3 lite is coming without a lot of what makes the quest 3 good, makes it the pro in my book. Quest lite, Quest 3, Quest Enterprise.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182The next Quest Pro is coming in 2025 regardless of what you want to call it, while Quest 4 is coming in 2026. The next Quest Pro is coming BEFORE the regular Quest 4. It was for CERTAIN going to happen with the Apple vision pro, even if it's just douchebags doing it in a "Look at how much money I can waste!" kind of way, just never thought the quest 3 would be any kind of tipping point
Quest 3 pro sold like doo doo, (remember the $500 price drop?) and Apple’s going after the high end of the market. But i’d be willing to drop a G for something like the Quest 3 but with oled, eye tracking, and wider fov.
Someone could bodge together a compute brick using a Framework laptop motherboard and battery in a 3D-printed case probably. I don't think it needs a display connected to boot up. I'm not sure how well it could run VR though.
This was also my exact though when he mentioned a laptop/portable pc with no screen. We could use the computer's bluetooth(like in Immmersed's wifi direct) or a link cable, assumeing you arent using local wifi of course. An automatically running set of instructions to prepare and connect the PC to the HMD on start or on wake up will be crucial, lacking a conventional display and all. I wonder how that could be achieved?
Framework actually sells external cases to put their motherboards in! I think it's mostly to convert them for desktop use but I can't see why you couldn't use it in the context you talk about
I'm absolutely loving the Quest 3 as a gen 1 spacial computer. I just so happened to have a keyboard that is supported by Meta's tracked keyboards feature and the amount of things that are possible just using the inbuilt browser shocked me. I've started learning Python, the course I'm doing has an in-browser IDE so I can have the course up on my large middle virtual screen and then have the spotify and discord webapps pinned to the other 2 windows! Even better, I've sideloaded the Plex client apk so I can watch all of my media on one of the side windows while also using the browser for other tools! This device has made me yearn for the Vision Pro. This software experience but with an M2 chip and desktop class applications is honestly the dream now!
The thing with the Apple vision is that they decided to have a closed ecosystem with a specific OS. So basically it will be a terrible experience, like IpadOS, where it is kind of a computer, but you just can't work with that, so much app missing etc
"Desktop class applications" - nope. This is what we all hoped for, that Apple would put Mac OS, a full computer OS, on Vision Pro and turn it into a laptop from the future. But instead they reused iOS, so it will be just as limited as iPad, with many productivity apps never released there, some for ToS reasons (like tools that rely on python scripting etc.).
After wondering around with the Quest 3 for a little while, I'm super disappointed with the depth distortion on the passthrough - it's SO distracting for close up objects, and things like looking through windows are sickness inducing. Was really hoping they would have solved that by now, HTC seem to have done it well with the XR Elite. That said though, the spatial anchoring for objects in MR is by far the best I've seen in any headset, and absolutely puts other headsets like the Pico 4 to shame. Excited to see where it goes in future!
Have patience, young padawan. The Q2 is STILL growing new mutant superpowers like some 40K Chaos daemon to this day, evolving and adapting to do things no one would have thought technically possible in it's day 1 release form. For all we know, in 2 years the Q3 will be able to read brainwaves making hand tracking unnecessary, or it's Depth Sensor will allow Ukrainian guerillas to target UAVs.
Dude that's crazy, I've never seen this guy's videos before. I was taking a shit and scrolling through my Google recommendations when this video popped up. Then immediately got called out for sitting on the toilet. 😅 and now I feel forced to watch the rest of the video 👍
Really glad you highlighted this. I happened to figure out that i could enjoy the quest 3 outdoors on a sunny day just yesterday. I played blade and sorcery for like a hour with the maximum boundary and was blown away with how surreal it felt. The hand tracking i expected to work, but the controllers still tracking was gigantic imo. The quest 3 is a far more useful device than it appeared
ARE YOU SERIOUS!? The controllers are tracked outdoors in the direct sunlight?! Thats HUGE, and never could be done with the Quest 2!. I really want to use my headset in my backyard with a big 20ft x 20ft play space. So sweet! DEF getting a Q3 now for sure if that actually works well! Was getting it anyway, who's kidding who LMAO :)
You always get me excited for new capabilities and applications Brad. I also wonder if Disney would ever start selling Quest Mickey straps with ears and a face plate.
I see you haven't experimented with a Q3 in the dark yet and let it's IR sensor see for you... Yes, you have Bat Vision. If you walk slowly, it will redraw triangles over (most) everything as you move. And the new controllers keep tracking before going to 3DoF degraded mode shockingly well in the dark where eldritch horrors lurk in the stygian blackness. But move slowly. It doesn't work fast.
Thanks for confirming that 2d recordings look better than "through the lens" - I suspected it, but it helps to understand. Interesting how Apple always showed a user at a desk, standing in one place or sitting on a sofa with windows open and not really walking around even indoors. Has Meta promoted anything recently about using a HMD as a passenger in a car?
On the other hand, some people say that the warping/distortion artifacts look worse (are more distracting) in 2D recordings than when actually using the headset.
It's because when you watch it on a flat-screen there's no issue of DEPTH. The actual pass through while using the Q3 still leaves much to be desired, Eben if it's better thana Quest Pro.
There was a video in the past little while that showed Zuck testing just that: being a passenger while using a headset. He was/is partnering with a car company or something.
Not the Quest 3, but I have been using my Nreal Air glasses at work. I do get a lot of questions, and I typically explain it as an extra/extended monitor. I'm looking forward to AR/XR devices becoming more commonplace.
Not sure how this ended up in my feed, but it's an interesting use case for the tech. As someone mentioned earlier, having the Disney app loaded and using the tech to secure Lighting Lanes, use the map function and tech as a HUD, or even just something to do to pass the time in line is really interesting. As someone who just go back from Disney, the whole 'pull out the phone, launch the app, scroll through the options, find your ride, shut it down (so it doesn't kill your battery)' routine happens probably 50-100x but having it live 'in a HUD' could be super useful, if not a bit awkward.
I'm planning to travel for 2 months from December until February and work from my new quest3 connected to the Steam Deck which already has a dual boot Windows configured to work remotely. I hope Virtual Desktop releases the multi display update by then. Immersed is OK (I even bought a dummy 4K HDMI to extend my monitors without having to pay any monthly fee...), but, TBH, I would rather use VD. I already tested the setup for last 2 days at home and it's looking very prommising. Let's see what happens...
Holy shit, I was about to say "man, what a cringey intro" but then you said you were watching me on the toilet when I just sat down on it in the middle of a turtle head poking out. 😮😅
over the Quest 2 os lifetime I was pretty impressed to see the software mature, meta put a lot of work in taking cool experimental features and releasing them. The two areas that surprised me that didn't appear to get huge updates or improvements to (even during/after quest pro) was the app/window management for both AirLink environment and for the stock home environment. While i'm aware there are productivity apps that work better in this way, it still perplexes me that I can set up a few windows, position and size them perfectly but have no way of getting the OS to remember the setup - every time you start the base os or the airlink os its back to square one. Seems to be a basic area that is missed. Anyway its really cool to see mobile data paired with a side loaded steamlink adding so much more advanced computing features. you've inspired me to give that a try. thanks!
Did you try sideloading the Disney app, to have the map showing which events are happening in the park, and where all the characters are standing visible at all times? That app is so finicky that I wonder if it's even possible. Maybe trying to reserve a virtual queue for Tron from the Quest3? How horrible was the passthrough in the darker rides, like Peter Pan?
I cleaned my house while watching TH-cam videos on my quest 3 today... I got to say it was so cool being able to do that. I feel like I can be far more productive while still educating myself on things
@@AnonP2X3YZ I can only speak for Pico, but it’s a setting you can disable (hidden developer’s menu on Pico, so you may just have to google / YTsearch a quest tutorial)
I was thinking that recording passthrough is clearer than inside the headset because it does not have to re-project the outside world onto the lenses, it only needs to record what it sees. Hope this makes sense, not sure if it is true, just my gut.
There was a firefox VR browser at some point (I don't remember it was on sidequest or the official store) but sadly Mozilla had to pull the plug. They already have a bad time without worrying of our niche on a Meta platform that may kill their app at will
Brad, thank you for this video. I agree, having the windows follow you automatically would be so nice. Also there's something else I want. And I'm not sure why I want this because it's not useful, I just think it's something I'd use often - but I'd like to be able to use immersed for productivity and the thing is I really like my room. I have three enormous windows in my main vr space. But what I'd love is for the view outside those windows to change to a new 3d environment that I choose. It could be mountains, a Swiss valley, a crazy detailed photo of the surface of Mars. It could be a snow-covered farmhouse in the distance, the view from a very high NYC skyscraper,. A high quality 360 video would even be cool. Being able to look down on city streets and see cars and people., horses in a pasture. A beach with people swimming. Or even something meditative like the view from atop a mountain, or inside a cathedral. Static images would be a great start, but being able to see live video of these places or really long looped videos would be so cool. Even stepping outside into my deck and looking at a different sky or city or place. Highest realism that can be achieved. But man I really want this.
would be cool if someone just re-soddered the quest 3 cameras with higher quality ones, or ones with a manual zoom, so you could actually see the starbucks menu and read it
I've talked with a person with sight problem preventing her to see an enough contrasted image at the point that they couldn't walk without a cane. She told me a MR headset that could adapte the contrast to its sight would change its life.
There was a kid on the Max lightrail train in Portland doing this. The WAY he was doing it was surprisingly not that wierd to see, especially before Halloween: He had his hoodie pulled up, and an N95 mask, so he looked like Thrillseeker going out for a stroll. What was _actually_ surprising: He and his friends were on the train with their BMX bikes. He was riding a bicycle with it on his face.
Great take! Ultimately mixed reality will be the normal. As pass through and computing get better (battery life as well…) This will ultimately be the world we live in. I think it’s super neat but will also be a strange disconnect from reality and engaging with people not in the Mixed reality world.
Honestly having been naive of vr til recently my first initial thought was "My house space is small but my yard has fence and a port that would make great extensions for my playing environment." Now here i stumble on your video and proceed to watch the rest. 1:08
I’m shocked you rarely go into the sun (that’s the bright hot ball above you) given your rich, golden hue! I only have this vast knowledge of the sun from my childhood in the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t have recent experience, but vaguely recall moving around often on a two-wheeled contraption called a “bicycle.” There were also these strange little creatures that looked a lot like me and we made mouth noises that went something like “haha.”
The Quest 3 passthrough still leaves something to be desired, but it's so, so close. The fact that I can actually walk around, interact with people, do everyday tasks, etc. while wearing the headset feels so cool. Resolution, warping and dim lighting conditions. As soon as it gets better in those areas it will have reached a point where people might genuinely start wearing these headsets even when not using them for anything specific.
someone needs to make a MR running app. it would connect to your phone or watch to show distance ran, speed, heart rate. and also have cool animations to motivate you to finish the run.
Mybe this motivates meta to find their stride for ar as a utility/ productivity and VR the immersive entertainment factor. I was hoping quest 3 would have a follow you mode and maybe an object scanning feature for 3D modelling.
Well, the fact that the headset works outside under bright sunlight conditions is actually HUGE. 10:20 the Framework Laptop would be wonderful for this! They already sell the full-fledged motherboard, you'd just need a keyboard and battery and you're set!
I love this and can't wait to try it out. Super dope. Whoever builds that app that anchors floating "desk" items to you while walking around is going to have one more user (me). LOL
I do this as well (taking my headset outside) while using the passthrough. Only things I have issues with are, battery life if I'm out in the open like in a park or other area that doesn't have an outlet for use and I have to use a battery pack which also doesn't last very long. Reason being having passthrough on really drains the battery. Also I had a similar issue with the blur effect at times when moving at certain speeds. I also agree with the windows not having an option to follow you while going at whatever speed youre traveling in whether youre in a vehicle passenger riding, or walking at certain speeds etc. I'd like to believe that vision pro will be ahead of all these things thanks to their OS and cameras being WAAY BETTER than the current OS meta is using. I think what meta needs to work on next is definitely OLED lens as well as Camera and depth sensor improvement for clearer and better tracking for when walking or doing intensive movement. Might need to add 6 more cameras, 1 extra depth sensor camera and a lidar scanner like vision pro will be doing to make things not only as clear as possible without a large amount of light, but also make things possible in the dark as well.
I also thought this just now in my head once VR gets to that level of how we envision it to be big companies like disney etc could collaborate with meta, apple, valve etc to use the headset or allow customers visiting their parks or establishments or apps who are using their own headset and have things setup that cater to their headsets to have a whole new experience an enhanced experience if you will.
As some one born in the late 80's i knew this was going to happen as a teenager. Ive been telling everyone recently that soon they will no longer be holding their phones but rather wearing them like a vrheadset.
Did anyone notice that older versions of Quest software, you could open multiple web browser windows that would curve around you? The new updates breaks this. It only opens non curved windows. It renders this feature useless. Is there a setting Im missing?
Yes, you can just click the quick settings (time area on your menu bar) and then select reset your view (curved panel icon). Then it works like it should. The new mode is more handy for interacting with the UI like an iPad with your hands. But the curved view is much more expansive and allows different sized multi screen setup like you're talking about.
Have you heard of the framework mainboard? I think that's what it is called. It's basically the core of a laptop. No screen, no IO (technically, sort of), not even a battery. I think combining it with a headset like this, either through streaming or through a link cable like setup could make a very light, very cyberpunk-y setup. If only we could add some bits to the bigscreen and get it inside out tracking and passthrough cameras because then we could have portable bigscreen beyond workspaces.
I hadn't even considered the possibility to connect a Quest to a Steam Deck. I wonder if the play with Deckard is going to be a more unified, almost Apple-like integration between Deckard and Deck.
Great video. Most people have windows, lamps, pendant lights, etc.. and until the sun goes down and the lighting can be tamed, it's a grainy mess for me indoors. So much so, I've considered returning the device and not selling my Quest 2. Outdoors on my back patio is great.
I use a 55" OLED as my main PC monitor and I still found being able to throw up a huge wall sized screen in passthrough via Virtual Desktop for consuming media (mostly TH-cam) fun. I have also tried Miracle Pool MR in my lounge and outside last night (for more space) and it is really cool. I have bright overhead LED lights that worked fairly well with it. And the outdoor LEDs can light my garden up like a tennis court (10 times brighter than the LED street light outside my house infact) so the experience was good right underneath them. Inside my private fenced section is as much as I'd want to go outside with it though. When we get something the form factor of the Immersed Visor that is standalone I might then venture out into public with it on.
Really looking forward to learning if the Immersive Visor is going to deliver on what has been announced for preorder. For $750, something to provide multiple large displays when connected to a laptop sounds amazing.
I think that the Killer app for a MR device is as a laptop replacement. because it allows you to have a desktop setup anywhere you go. leaning on what Brad said, all you would need is a MR headset and a Keyboard that is basically a laptop without the monitor. Imagine the production efficiency for fieldwork with freelancers on the go. Furthermore ,when you come home/the office, your MR device could connect wirelessly to your desktop/house server to run more high performance applications like VR.
@@laartwork I think the big thing is that you can create these virtual desktops while still having full high fidelity experience of your surroundings. I believe the Varjo XR3 can do this, but not without a physical tether to a large computer and it costs over $6K. What excites me is having that experience anywhere i need it in a convenient package.
I been doing social experiments by walking my dog while in XR pass through with my Quest 3. I noticed I haven't had anybody ask me what I am wearing on my face. I even had multiple conversations and wasn't related to my headset on my face.. I want to further test this
thats actually quite amazing! People really don't want to offend you lmao! I played Echo VR back in the day at a State Park in California at night under a really bright street light, and the Ranger drove by and once he got close enough he realized it was a Quest 2 and just said, "Oh thats one of these Quest things! COOL. Just be careful and don't get hit by a car!"
I don't touch grass enough to bring a Quest 3 out in public (although I do have some travel plans later this year) but just using it at home while doing chores and cooking is so good. The potential for this tech is super high, and I can definitely see this replacing smartphones for some people in the future. Give or take 20 years?
Were just not there yet with AR, just like self driving cars. I thought we would have a practical device by now, but were not even close. It may or may not even happen, now. I personally like it and I think there's tons of uses for it.
You might like the XReal AR Glasses. During the day you need a cover, but at night you can get a giant 200 inch screen in front of you. You can look down and see your keyboard at night easily (not sure about the day). They also last a very long time on battery since you're just powering 2 micro OLED screens. Easy on your eyes as well.
If I use Quest 3 on the 3rd level of my house, and then relocate down to 2nd level, then my Quest menus look like they are 12 ft above my head. I can't make the menu come down.
Only if they put 12GB of ram on the quest 3 it could do so much more multitasking smoothly currently fells a little held back. Brads becoming a questie too smh.
Tried hooking my steamdeck up to the quest 3 via immersed today and really enjoyed it, didn't think of sideloading steamlink to access my desktop pc. Genius idea, thanks! I have been really surprised by the MR in general, I had the quest pro and it almost put me off the idea but the Quest 3 did a 180 for me and I'm massively excited now. The room scanning in particular, seeing the geometry of the space I am in get mapped out, is particularly mind blowing (maybe moreso than it even should be ha). Good point on it looking better in 2d than in headset, I have been sharing videos with friends and the reaction has been hugely positive which has never happened with straight VR unless I got someone into the headset. The quest 3 has a higher price point but I think it's actually more marketable and appealing than any previous device, although I do worry about the friction etc and lack of great user friendly software so the majority of non-enthusiast folks right now would likely be disappointed by (or just stop using) the headset shortly after getting it. We need seamless robust MR software and we need it a year ago.
@@Levi-hs6mg I haven't gotten around to it yet, I would only consider steamdeck when remotely away from my PC tbh, immersed has so much more customisation and control so would definitely prefer it when on the same network.
@HeadsetHistorian I tested it our and I found that to be the case. Immersed is better, unless you want to carry around a screen while on the quest native web browser or something like that
I was thinking about building a cyberdeck and this video now made me realize I could use the headset as SSH client/screen. I guess that would be one of the cyberpunk setups ever made.
Supporting that use case is probably not happening while we're still in passthrough. It's worse than headphones for the eyes - any issues in processing the camera feed is a potential hazard. We're still struggling to get larger playspaces, though they are supporting that in some cases, and it's up to apps to implement.
100% this is definitely the main benefit of the Quest 3! I've been loving it for passthrough goodness like this and didn't originally buy it to replace my Index. Appreciate the positive talk on the matter. 😸👍
Bloody hell, I just sat down on the toilet pulled up a random video to watch while go and not even 10 seconds I get called out for it. Touchè, mate, touchè.
What I think is going on with the Q3 passthrough is some kind of noise reduction algorithm. That's why everything looks so blurry. It's very similar to DJI's O3 Unit noise reduction filter. I wonder if the algorithm/filter could be turned off.
What you described at the end about a screen less laptop is actually what a lot of people are already doing with MacBooks. A lot people are buying MacBooks with broken screens for cheap and then just disassembling it so only the base with the keyboard and trackpad remains and using it like a PC. It would be interesting to try with the quest since it is capable of tracking MacBook keyboards in VR, so it could theoretically be used in VR and AR.

Maybe when Quest 4 can handle Resident Evil 7 type graphics maybe I'll be interested, but I'll probly be too busy buying PSVR 3
@@ConservativeJuggaloPodcast just solid bs, u haven't touched psvr1 for a really long time if you're saying that. It was atrotiious experience even back than, like tha hell dude
Actually we dont/should not want to vr/Mr go main stream. Why?
People are not ready for smartphones even less this.
This is the terrible mistake enthusiasts always fall on.
@@corey4448 he's talking purely graphics, and he's right. Resident Evil 7 in VR looks better than anything currently on Quest 3. It's just a fact.
People are really interested in the ar part of it
just now realizing how insane apple vision pro is gonna be. mfs gonna actually wear that shit outside
I’m gonna use the Apple vision hand tracking with my pinky always up to make people feel I’m such a pompous glasshole

Though I wouldn't be surprised at all if it has the same new SOC that Quest 4 will have a year early to prevent the Quest Pro vs Quest 3 problem.
Pretty sure you mean Quest Pro. There's no such thing as a quest 2 pro or quest 3 pro (at least not yet)
I think it's mostly to convert them for desktop use but I can't see why you couldn't use it in the context you talk about
Passthrough video looks better on TH-cam than in VR because in VR the video is stretched around the entire 110° FOV, making the pixels fairly large.
Wait until you see deckard
@@THX-1138 I can rice my real life like my desktop
The thing with the Apple vision is that they decided to have a closed ecosystem with a specific OS. So basically it will be a terrible experience, like IpadOS, where it is kind of a computer, but you just can't work with that, so much app missing etc
"Desktop class applications" - nope. This is what we all hoped for, that Apple would put Mac OS, a full computer OS, on Vision Pro and turn it into a laptop from the future. But instead they reused iOS, so it will be just as limited as iPad, with many productivity apps never released there, some for ToS reasons (like tools that rely on python scripting etc.).
@kazioo2 just give it time to cook.. its still a nonexistent device at this point and the first of its kind from Apple.

Yeah, the anchoring is kind of near perfect!
We're slowly creeping closer to a VR Cyberpunk future
@WigganNuG yes I'm serious. further testing shows me that outdoor use works well, but it hates uneven ground. so find a fairly flat spot and have fun!
“Even i go outside and thats bad” every introvert nightmare 😂
You always get me excited for new capabilities and applications Brad. I also wonder if Disney would ever start selling Quest Mickey straps with ears and a face plate.
Nice thing about index was that I can turn off all the lights in my room and it still works.
Really freaked me out when he called me out for being on the toilet
Thanks for confirming that 2d recordings look better than "through the lens" - I suspected it, but it helps to understand. Interesting how Apple always showed a user at a desk, standing in one place or sitting on a sofa with windows open and not really walking around even indoors. Has Meta promoted anything recently about using a HMD as a passenger in a car?
On the other hand, some people say that the warping/distortion artifacts look worse (are more distracting) in 2D recordings than when actually using the headset.
@@kazioo2I’d say that’s true, I notice the graininess in headset but the warping I ignore very easily.
It's because when you watch it on a flat-screen there's no issue of DEPTH. The actual pass through while using the Q3 still leaves much to be desired, Eben if it's better thana Quest Pro.
the showed a person walking around a hotel room and house a couple times.
Your perspective is refreshingly ahead of the curve and I completely agree
I didn’t try to wear it in most rides. Just the “safest” one which I decided was people mover. And it didn’t work well at all.
man, i love the new AI voice you're using, it's almost like yours
i have been using ar glasses in public to watch anime while on a train. However those look like sunglasses, so far less weird.

Move out from da hood nn brotha!
Timing couldnt be better. Stooled a perfect dive-in no splash while you said your intro 👌
I was thinking that recording passthrough is clearer than inside the headset because it does not have to re-project the outside world onto the lenses, it only needs to record what it sees. Hope this makes sense, not sure if it is true, just my gut.
It definitely is skipping some sort of reprojection. Or maybe just the scaling doesn't have to be as stretched?
It's also just down to pixel density. A 4k video looks great on a 4k screen, but that same resolution looks terrible on a headset.
There was a firefox VR browser at some point (I don't remember it was on sidequest or the official store) but sadly Mozilla had to pull the plug. They already have a bad time without worrying of our niche on a Meta platform that may kill their app at will
I had it on my quest 2 and was able to install on quest 3. It does give a warning about being unsupported now.
There's Wolvic now, that I think is the replacement.
next step is driving.
Being able to walk around the part with a map of the part following you would be pretty cool for example. Curious how Apple's headset will react
Apple will just copy features, and charge you a fuck-ton for it.
I hope meta listens to this
How... How did you know I was in the toilet?
Like he said he’s watching us right now
“I’m watching everything your doing, including you watching this on the toilet”
You had my curiosity but now you have my attention 🧐
The thought of the fact I could see and run into someone wearing a Quest 3 anywhere in public is actually hilarious sounding.
Thank you for being you. I mean that in the best way possible.
someone needs to make a MR running app. it would connect to your phone or watch to show distance ran, speed, heart rate. and also have cool animations to motivate you to finish the run.
you know, we have smart watches for that.
Mybe this motivates meta to find their stride for ar as a utility/ productivity and VR the immersive entertainment factor. I was hoping quest 3 would have a follow you mode and maybe an object scanning feature for 3D modelling.
Besides I really support your channel and content, this is the most forever alone video I've ever seen in my life.😂
Well, the fact that the headset works outside under bright sunlight conditions is actually HUGE. The biggest reason I want to use it outside is because people have these things called "backyards" sometimes. I happen to have one, and it its got a big flat top that is perfect for VR with a huge guardian, but I can only play at night with a couple workshop lights on a tripod that lights the whole place up. The Quest 2 does NOT work in direct sunlight because its too bright and it wont track the controllers. I wonder if the quest 3 will track the controllers outside, and not just only your hands.
10:20 the Framework Laptop would be wonderful for this! They already sell the full-fledged motherboard, you'd just need a keyboard and battery and you're set!
yo the 5:15 clip is insane, that's dope, the remoting into your pc from the outside
@SadlyItsBradley how are you browsing outside? Are you connected to wifi or 5G?
Use the hotspot on your phone! It's not rocketscience.
I love this and can't wait to try it out. Super dope. Whoever builds that app that anchors floating "desk" items to you while walking around is going to have one more user (me). LOL
I’m afraid to take my device outside. It’s like carrying around a PS5 you just bought from the store and saying hey rob me.
I thought I heard that the sun can ruin the cameras or depth sensor. Is that not the case? I know it will destroy the lenses so not asking about that.
Those components should be totally fine. Otherwise most smartphones, or iPhones with depth projectors would also be screwed
@SadlyItsBradley Makes sense. I was so worried just to have the sun hit the outside of my headset through my window. 😂
I think it's light hitting the eye facing lenses, resulting in damage to the screens
How long did the battery last at Disney Land, 2h? We need something sustainable, powered by body movement, or else.
Probably around 2.5 hours with battery elite strap and using Passthrough the whole time
As some one born in the late 80's i knew this was going to happen as a teenager.
Awesome. Thanks!@@thejaysehansen
For a laptop without a screen have you seen the Spacetop? Basically the keyboard half of a laptop with AR glasses built-in
I hadn't even considered the possibility to connect a Quest to a Steam Deck.
Having more screens and moving around is already a killer app.
People driving with the quest 3 and then they see "Tracking lost" while driving past a red light at a busy intersection at 80 mph
Imagine hacking someone's MR headset and it hides a vehicle from their vision and they get run over.
You can use 're-center' option to get your screen to your present area.
Uh... yeah been doing that for 2 years with virtual desktop when I travel. An I missing something?
I’d give it more like 5-10 years!
I was indeed on the toilet.

I'm also using immersed, have you tested steam link? If you have do you find it better?
@@Levi-hs6mg I haven't gotten around to it yet, I would only consider steamdeck when remotely away from my PC tbh, immersed has so much more customisation and control so would definitely prefer it when on the same network.
@HeadsetHistorian I tested it our and I found that to be the case. Immersed is better, unless you want to carry around a screen while on the quest native web browser or something like that
I was thinking about building a cyberdeck and this video now made me realize I could use the headset as SSH client/screen. I guess that would be one of the cyberpunk setups ever made.

Windows Mixed Reality headsets have the option of making windows follow you around
Supporting that use case is probably not happening while we're still in passthrough. It's worse than headphones for the eyes - any issues in processing the camera feed is a potential hazard.
We're still struggling to get larger playspaces, though they are supporting that in some cases, and it's up to apps to implement.
0:30 You must understand, I have been regularly fantasizing about doing this exact thing for years.
100% this is definitely the main benefit of the Quest 3! I've been loving it for passthrough goodness like this and didn't originally buy it to replace my Index.

What you described at the end about a screen less laptop is actually what a lot of people are already doing with MacBooks. It would be interesting to try with the quest since it is capable of tracking MacBook keyboards in VR, so it could theoretically be used in VR and AR.
