When he passed away from lung cancer in 2016, the whole nation of the Netherlands was in pure shock and grief for a full week. He was arguably our most famous and honored sportsman of the country post war. Beloved by just about anyone. Especially by people that support Ajax. At that club, my club he is a total legend and his presence is still felt in our style of play today. See our CL semi final run in 2019. That was Cruyff’s doing

I know plenty of people who did not like him one bit and I am Dutch (and not from Feyenoord). There were plenty of Barcelona fans feeling he same, due to his arrogance. Also because he was always into trouble and forced Willy van der Kuylen and Janvan Bevere from PSV ou of the 1974 squad. Mnd you: Van der Kuylen was probably the second best player in The Netherlands but also very modest and without a doubt Van Beveren was our best goalie. But Cruyff needed a fight. And that happened almost everywhere he went: great things on one hand but almost always with a downside and that downside meant victims...He is without a doubt the best football player we ever head for sure. He is in my top three actually. What is more amazing to me that surely the Death of Cruyff made a huge impact, but amazingly the death of Maradona was headline news for weeks and we could see documentaries about Diego even a year after his passing. NLs is one of the many footballnations in the world. It is the nr1 sport (well in winter it is probably icespeedskating).
If he won a World Cup, he would be in the running for the best footballer of all time.

But we're talking about a different matter here. Johan cruyff laid the foundation of tiki taka which another great footballler in messi took the enormous benefits culminating in 5 champions League. But cruyff is on a different level here when it comes to thinking how a whole team should play and influencing many generations of football history eg barca , spain 2010 and probably Germany 2014.

Ah, I don't know why but everytime I hear the name "Cruyff", I feel like something tells me the guy has a hidden talent, that there is a mystery linked with the name "Cruyff". It's inexplicable really, I've never seen him play but have watched his goals in TH-cam. Extra-ordinary footballer and a genius! He played Football and used to make it look so easy. It's definitely sad that the Netherlands couldn't win the World Cup. They definitely deserved it. I pray that he is happy in heaven. The name "Cruyff" will always be in our hearts and minds. O yes, believe me Cruyff really was as good as they say he was. I first became aware of his genius back in 1971 when I watched him help Ajax beat Panathanaikos in the European Cup Final at Wembley. After that game I knew I had witnessed something truly extraordinary.
