I have the watch and really love the watch! I do not have any "high-end" timepices except for a Tag Aquaracer. I do have a lot of $100-$600 watches and really do like my Rotary Super Scuba 7. All of my watches's bracelets I soak in an oil to help lubricate and make buttery smooth. The Rotary as with my Tag are no different - both soaked and buttery smooth. My complaint or niggle is that the crown is slightly undersized and is not a three-piece oyster and not screw links (as you point out) and the the micro-adjust is lacking. However, the hacking is not an issue nor is the movement and I love the cermaic bezel at this price. I do think the orange is a an awesome orange color (not too red nor too yellow) and the lum as you point out is excellent, esp. due to the ceramic bezel. I too think it's a great value for anyone wanting an orange dive-style without spending $1000+ (I'm looking at you Doxa!)
I have an Islander with a red dial. It's an outstanding watch for the money. I just ordered one of these in green, called the Hulk, so I am looking forward to wearing it too!
I have continued to read very good things about Islander. I looked into some of their non-dive watches as well. Very competitive specs for the pricing.
I think I’m getting the green faced rotary super 7 for high school graduation in a few months! :) looks like a solid first watch thanks for the video on a more under the radar brand/ product.
Ah I've looked at that green (I went orange in part because I wanted a dive watch in orange but I already happened to have a green dial watch as well). The lume is killer and the watch has a lot of robust stats, particularly for the price point, so I think you'll enjoy it should you end up going this direction!
I just bought the Orange Seiko GMT for a friend's 40th bday present, and to be honest, I'm quite unimpressed with the quality. I hadn't seen this Rotary before, but from this video review and the photos I've seen I feel confident this Rotary is the better option.
I don't have experience with the Seiko GMT so I can't do a direct comparison. The Rotary had a lot going for it. I'd say probably the biggest areas of concern would be the movement (mine was quite accurate but the second-hand "stutter" might not appeal to some) and the bracelet (it has a pretty robust micro-adjust but at this price point bracelet comfort isn't always the best... though affordable third party straps are always an option). I ended up gifting this to a friend of mine with a much larger wrist than mine; figured the thickness would better suit him. Remains the best lumed dive watch I've ever owned.
Thanks for the reply. That's very helpful. I'm going to purchase the Rotary, this way I can do a side by side as I still have several weeks to decide which one to keep for the gift.
Thanks, my blind guess is pricing. I believe Watchnation, when collaborating on the watch, had one of their goals being something they'd be able to price at under 250 pounds. Doing it quick search (and likely not bulk pricing so not a perfect examination), the Miyota 8205 seems to run around $40 whereas the NH36A runs more around $66. So if that $20 was the difference to meeting their pricing target I'd guess that was the decision.
Haha not sure I can be any more helpful. I still wear the watch. Love the orange dial and the lume is great. It is a pretty heavy watch though and from a wearing perspective I prefer my other two dive watches more. But for the price this packs a lot of punch!
@@thetimebombardier sure I have a Tudor Black Bay Bronze and a Zodiac Super Sea Wolf (reviews of both are up on the channel). But the price point on both is quite a bit higher than the Rotary so one would expect improvements.
Why on earth would there be Spanish on the day feature !? - that must be the US version - If they did such a thing on the UK version (where they're from) they would have Indian , pakistani , Polish by law and they might consider English
Interesting point, though I just loaded the watch up at the Watch Nation site (who Rotary collaborated on the watch with), which is a UK store and lists the watch in British pounds, and the description there also says the days are English and Spanish. I can only assume that's just the day disc that comes with the movement they chose. Amazing review got all the info I needed
Glad you found it helpful, I have tried to get better at covering the key aspects potential buyers want to know/see.
Why they never used a NH36 in this lovely time piece is beyond me..great review though...

Because the miyota is arguably the better movement overall
Really good review of an interesting watch
Thanks! I even went lake swimming with it yesterday. It did well though the water was so murky even an orange dial only went so far for legibility.
Excellent review!
nice review dude and I like it but still undecided LOL!!
