  • This video is the Final in the series for building a Bushfire preventative Trailer.
Some may say that it's a Fire Fighter Trailer and they would also be right but either way it's a "Just in Case" measure.
A big thanks to Garry from AMC Restorations Australia for painting the Trailer for us. Also for letting me record his burn off for my video.

Nice fire trailer! Good bit of kit as the British would say.

Hi, just came across this video. Thanks for sharing.
I have a fire trailer too, single axle though, tandem axle is a future project. Tomorrows job. I have a big burn pile waiting for autumn, I think I’ll do a practical test too, a real life test would be useful. Chris TRP.

Just a tip , put a litre of dishwashing soap in your tank that would be the equivalent of having 0.1% class A foam and that will make your water more effective for fire fighting.

It is a great device that I hope we only need to use for fun and not for serious application but I know that if needed its ready for action..
Thanks for letting me try it mate. Great work..

Well done with the trailer, Jim. Definitely a great asset for yourself and your neighbours...let's just hope you don't need to use it in anger.

Just watched the video its got me intrigued about drafting from open supply currently got my trailer unit at local engineering business for pump change over the idea of a 2 way ball valve has got me thinking about doing same thing but my tank has a supply line that runs to pump how would I would go about converting it into both supply and suction line as rear of tank is at back of trailer

    • @DoinStuff
      @DoinStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

Start with the 2 way ball valve into the pump feed in and wrk from there. One side comes from the tank as it currently is and the second has a line with a hose and cam lock that connects from a stationary supply. The othe thing to keep in mind is that you also need 2 outlets, one to the reel or fire hose and the other to the top of your tank to fill it. I hope this helps.

@@DoinStuffYep it helps I've got a t piece on my tank with one being supply and other meant for bulkie refills so might reassign outlet 2 and fix up an old 19mm hose with cam locks to act as relay for refill
I've got a 7.5 hp twin impeller fire pump currently getting fitted by a local engineering business that has an inlet as well as 3 hose outlets on top

@@DoinStuff Ended up getting an ARAG brand 3 way ball valve from the local farm supplies shop gonna be interesting to see how it works as the tap system seems tricky in comparison to how you've done it in the video just waiting on my fire trailer to have its pump swapped

@@DoinStuff Hi mate been a fair while since my last comment I've finished the setup its now fully plumbed up with camlocks and capable of suction from an open supply with a return line coming out of discharge outlet and back into the tank
I tested it out using a plastic rubbish bin filled with water and it worked

hello this was over a year ago that you published this video.. I want to add some things that you might consider. there's things called basketball balls you put them in the tank and they help prevent the sloshing around the water.. I'll check you might want to put some hand tools on there like shovel a pickaxe and a stiff pine break in a shop time break.. you might want to add some hose to that flat hose like inch and a half hose in one inch hose if you want it inch and a half hose you can use that as a feeder hose you put a white connection at the end and it'll stretch it out so far and then you can use one inch off that and then you can always break the one inch down to what you would call garden hose size I know the in sky shoes metric over there just don't know the metric to those particular sizes.. a chainsaw will come and helpful also extra fuel and then add on to that maybe it's luxury item a gas powered or battery powered weed cutter maybe with a blade on it instead of the string.. that'll you cut a fire line with that through a brush area.. another thing you might want to consider is generator not a big one fire happens at the most inconvenient time a lot of times at night.. so if you have a small kid already you can make up some light stands with some spotlights maybe $250 watt spot lights to light up an area or floodlight.. and maybe a quarter you make a stand that you can take the lights off the trailer and set it up somewhere. I don't want it over overweight your trailer but need some things to think about if you could go with the gas powered weed cutter and chainsaw try to find ones that are four stroke that way you only have to keep one fuel source on them on the trailer you don't have to have another can to make some gas and oil together and.. don't forget some safety equipment and also remember get yourself a pair of all cotton jeans or all women jeans you don't want too much man made fibers in there shut those aside as your firefighting pants with work boots and something like a flannel shirt I know it may be hot at the time brush fire or you call them bushfires and Australia. and a helmet with a face shield for the chainsaw make sure the face piece to come off easy that you can put it somewhere and just use the helmet I'm going to need some adapters and some other nozzles or a water safe or just want it in reducer complex I try powder fire extinguisher and in this country we call him Indian tanks they hold 5 gallons of water and they have a small pump well very also make agricultural sprays with a little gasoline engine on it that's another luxury item but you can always put some tool boxes on here wheel covers. oh yeah and keep yourself a box of dust masks going to keep all the smoke out but it's going to keep the large particles from your face and put it this way if you could if it feels really hard on your face you're too close back up and get some more pressure on your pump .. I'm using the talk to text so if there's any scary sentences sorry I just read around it and you make it the idea of what I was about to say.. have a nice day God bless

Also if you think about it and want a cheap prior resistant gear you can use Walters pants and coat and gloves remember eye protection as well
