Being a pad player myself, I can't do any of the fancy stuff that high-level players do. Seeing a guy on a plain pad from an older console take down a Team MCZ guy like MPie is just that much more impressive.
I was responding to the comment that Marlinpie invented all of DOOM 'S tech.. I'm not trying to discredit anyone; if anything Marlinpie has helped improve tech, and helped a lot of the best Marvel players level up. Everyone from Champ, Rog, Tokido to even Clockw0rk use the Doom TAC and infinite variations Marlinpie enhanced. And we now consider that high level of execution practical because of him.. I'm just not with people not looking into the tech but saying 'Marlin made it'.
I dont think its because people out think him, Marlinpie is more of an "entertainer" than a competitor, his focus is more of 'how can i hype up the crowd?" rather than "how can i beat this guy?"
Marlinpie invented Magneto's Hypergrav loop (Marn claimed his flight loop). However, Marlinpie wasn't even using Doom in vanilla nor when Ultimate first came out- the Doom/Ammy tech was Clockw0rk. The Doom corner TAC combos were invented by Doomface, the midscreen ones were innovated by TheEpicRamen. Though I'm not disputing how good he is, people seem to credit him for everything he does when he doesn't actually create it.
He may not have created the tech but although other ppl have created a variation of the tech, Marlinpie is the only one that can showcase it in real matches, and makes better versions of the tech that other ppl create, so yeah hes definitely gonna take credit for them because other ppl only see it from marlinpie, no one really cares who created it, because marlinpie showcases them better than all those people you mentioned.
Marlinpie is known for t-bagging though. He does it a lot. There's that one week of "The Break" weekly tournament where he x-factored with Doom and started his doom combo with the s.H OTG then stared straight at the other player, not even looking at the screen. And then the other time where he came in on a fucking tricycle and started playing on that. He does this shit all the damn time.
This may be dumb of me to say, but if anyone wants to doubt how good MarlinPie is at this game, just look at those Doom combos. He can pull things out of his hat that I doubt 99% of people playing this game could do after studying this video. He may not win every match, but he has skill, he has style, and he has Doom.
It gets the crowd hyped. A fight without hype might as well just be another Chris G spam show. Not saying that makes it right, but it makes it interesting; and props to Goa for stepping up to the challenge.
Goa's had a great year locally in Toronto. I think this match was only able to happen because he got a sponsor to cover travel expenses. Also, to put his skill in perspective, Goa's doing all this on a Dualshock 2 pad plus a converter...

In SCR, Marlinpie got 3rd. Saying he wins 1 out of every 5 and that he always loses is just preposterous. Plus, he beat Combofiend in a first to 10. Marlinpie's skill is there. He has more than just combos. We've refuted everything you said. He's won a major (Curleh Mustach), he wins more than 1 out of 5 matches, and he's beaten Combofiend in a FT10. Not saying he's the best, just giving credit where credit is due. You should do the same. Why don't you play him if he sucks so much?

Having a pad or a stick doesn't make you better or worse, it's all about execution. If you can land your combos with a pad you'll do fine, assuming you can block perfectly. Fanatiq is a pad player and he's one of the best players in Marvel.
