On this episode, we’ll be speaking on the history of the legendary R&B artist “Bobby Byrd”, who is better known for composing and writing classic hits for James Brown like "Sex Machine" and "Please, Please, Please". We’ll be taking a deep dive on what made Bobby a musical genius, and why he wasn’t given much credit in the music industry.
Hi there, I’m the granddaughter of Bobby Byrd and want to thank you for keeping his legacy, our family’s legacy, alive 🫶🏾
Hiya, your grandpa was... and still is a legend, I been playing music now for 50 years, played on over 20 albums produced 6 and 2 gold. I always thought thought Mr Byrd had a more interesting voice than James ... but Mr Brown sure could dance.
All I hope is they're up there in heaven taking the house. down.. You can be very proud of his legacy 🌹 RIP Bobby Byrd. 👑🙏🙏
Im so glad you loved the video! Thank you so much for your comment! Much Love to you and the family.
Mr. Bobby Byrd the "unsung" hero the forgotten Famous Flame.
Bobby Byrd is a Icon
Bobby Bryd, is an Funk Legend
"I know you got soul" by Bobby Byrd is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Real music lovers honor BYRD THE GOAT 👑
So true !
"Big Dog" Byrd, nice upload👍🏼
I love James Brown, but without Bobby Byrd James Brown would've never reach his level of success with Bobby Byrd, Double salutes U sir. U are truly a Legend. RIP Sir.
Good documentation on the late great Bobby Byrd.
The LEGENDARY Mr Bobby Byrd ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for spotlighting a much unheralded talent in soul and funk music. Favorite Byrd song-“Hot Pants-I’m Coming” (1970).
Well done documentation. And as important as the already existing documentations of other J.B.s members that created a lot James stands for today in the public.
Thanks alot! very glad you enjoyed it!!!
Thank you for your support!
You told "nothing but the truth", brother. I've loved James Brown since the moment I saw him . . . and I've loved Bobby Byrd!! He has been there throughout most of JB's career - often hyping JB as much as anybody could!! Bobby, there is a large number of people that know who you are, and what you did for funk music! I KNOW you got soul!!!
Bobby Byrd deserves equal credit along with JB for bringing us the FUNK! There would be no FUNK without BOBBY BYRD! Rest well, MR. BYRD! ❤
le plus grand duo de l'histoire de la soul musique
Mr Byrd’s voice is phenomenal! Thank you for sharing this video! ❤
BadAzz Bobby Byrd
Great job!!!
Bobby Byrd was to laid back and James Brown took advantage of his kindness, Bobby should have grabbed James by his collar a few times, since James cowardly whooped up on women, history would have been rewritten about thier relationship.
Great video
James Brown was a low down dude I read about Bobby Byrd , Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and the JB that he didn't pay them
He was also very abusive
You fotgot to mention the fact that Bobby and the FAMOUS FLAMES were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2012, and The RHYTHM & BLUES HALL of FAME in 2020.
Love them both ❤❤❤ thank you 🙏
He also wrote Take Your Time Do It Right for SOS BAND
Who wrote that song Bobby ?
ANOTHER fact that this video DIDN’T point out…was that, although THE FLAMES first BEGAN as a Vocal/Instrumental group, that group BROKE UP after just THREE SESSIONS. After that , ALL FUTURE VERSIONS of THE FAMOUS FLAMES were VOCAL GROUPS ONLY…with NO instrumental members, as Brown then hired the JC DAVIS BAND to back him and the now all-vocal FAMOUS FLAMES from then on.
See “The FAMOUS FLAMES” in Wikipedia.
Salute 🫡
Made respect for Jay Z for offering 65% of the royalties to Bobby Byrd. That man truly is unsung. James Brown is foul as hell....as much as I love him as an artist.
Dope and thanks for sharing this knowledge I never knew this
Bobby's father was a well-respected church leader in the community. He wrote a letter to the warden of the juvenile detention center, where Brown was serving time. In the letter Bobby's father said, in his letter, that he felt Brown was a changed young man and guaranteed him place to live upon his release. This helped Brown get an early release.
Another Important Fact
that this video did NOT point out…was that
THE FAMOUS FLAMES (including BOBBY BYRD), were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012…and The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2020.
No way in hell I’d let James Brown take over my group. Should have put him under contract
Today, James Brown is known as “The Godfather of Soul.”
But, in the Fifties and Sixties, NOBODY called him by that nickname.
NOBODY!! That nickname was a ‘70’s-80’s thing.
Back in the FIFTIES and SIXTIES, James was known as
“ MISTER DYNAMITE!!”
Byrd was a good man and my friend. He would come around from time to time trying to get his money from Brown but always managed to get away. I feel sorry for Bobby, but he was not the only one that got gotten as I had my moments with Brown, not as big but still! More later in my book one day!
Thank you for sharing this comment! Love it!
My question for Mr. Byrd is: if Mr. Brown was that bad, how come he couldn’t leave very early on, and forge his own career??
Brown didn't respect Byrd... He treated him like trash.. Byrd took a lot of crap
Nice! But the comment about them being "being a match made in heaven" may be a matter of opinion, huh?
James treated bobby FOUL
We can buy the DVD from Barnes and noble. I have been a dvd collector for a long time. Find something else to do
Sam Cooke is the original soul man
Mr. Byrd was done so wrong by James Brown!!
Secret weapon, or lovers?
James Brown was selfish. He didn’t pay him right
