Hiya, your grandpa was... and still is a legend, I been playing music now for 50 years, played on over 20 albums produced 6 and 2 gold. I always thought thought Mr Byrd had a more interesting voice than James ... but Mr Brown sure could dance. All I hope is they're up there in heaven taking the house. down.. You can be very proud of his legacy 🌹 RIP Bobby Byrd. 👑🙏🙏
Growing up in 1960s Detroit, James Brown is the first music I remember in my lifetime. These days my FAVORITE JB clips are with Mr. Bobby Byrd in them.
Thank you for paying tribute to the amazing Bobby Byrd. I am the founder of the record label Samarian Entertainment, and the biggest James Brown fan alive, but I am also a huge fan of the incomparable Bobby Byrd. I happen to be one of the few people who knows the history of this legendary artist and his contribution to the career of James Brown and to music in general. His official title should be “The Pioneer of Soul”❤
I love this and let me just add one correction: Many people believe that James Brown would never have had the same level of success without Bobby Byrd. That’s incorrect. The truth is that James Brown would have never been heard of AT ALL without Byrd. Byrd discovered James and gave James a career. Without Bobby Byrd, there’s a strong possibility that James would have stayed in prison and become a career criminal. That’s Bobby Byrd’s contribution to music
Brother, thank you... class, character, good soul and definitely a good heart you have for giving Mr. Bird, his recognition... he will never be forgotten by me and mine.
You told "nothing but the truth", brother. I've loved James Brown since the moment I saw him . . . and I've loved Bobby Byrd!! He has been there throughout most of JB's career - often hyping JB as much as anybody could!! Bobby, there is a large number of people that know who you are, and what you did for funk music! I KNOW you got soul!!!
I love James Brown, but without Bobby Byrd James Brown would've never reach his level of success with Bobby Byrd, Double salutes U sir. U are truly a Legend. RIP Sir.
Bobby's father was a well-respected church leader in the community. He wrote a letter to the warden of the juvenile detention center, where Brown was serving time. In the letter Bobby's father said, in his letter, that he felt Brown was a changed young man and guaranteed him place to live upon his release. This helped Brown get an early release.
You fotgot to mention the fact that Bobby and the FAMOUS FLAMES were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2012, and The RHYTHM & BLUES HALL of FAME in 2020.
Another Important Fact that this video did NOT point out…was that THE FAMOUS FLAMES (including BOBBY BYRD), were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012…and The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2020.
I visited James Browns band with Bobby Bird in the concert hall of Amsterdam 1970. Fantastic workmanship together. And dont forget with Lynn Collins. Later I saw Bobbybirdband with his wife, ladysinger, in Maastricht in his old age.⁷
Well done documentation. And as important as the already existing documentations of other J.B.s members that created a lot James stands for today in the public.
Nice video. I’m always interested in hearing about artists that worked with JB since he is such an iconic figure and an inspiration to people like me that grew up listening to his music.
Today, James Brown is known as “The Godfather of Soul.” But, in the Fifties and Sixties, NOBODY called him by that nickname. NOBODY!! That nickname was a ‘70’s-80’s thing. Back in the FIFTIES and SIXTIES, James was known as “ MISTER DYNAMITE!!”
Real good information, Bobby Byrd l always liked his singing as well as James Brown, didn’t like the way JB treated his musicians, l saw Bobby Byrd perform 1 times with James Brown in Seattle Washington back in the 80’s at the Show Box, never saw Bobby Byrd live after that, l don’t understand, well maybe l do, that entertainers make it and treat people so bad, l guess it’s a all about me thing?
Made respect for Jay Z for offering 65% of the royalties to Bobby Byrd. That man truly is unsung. James Brown is foul as hell....as much as I love him as an artist.
Byrd was a good man and my friend. He would come around from time to time trying to get his money from Brown but always managed to get away. I feel sorry for Bobby, but he was not the only one that got gotten as I had my moments with Brown, not as big but still! More later in my book one day!
Bobby Byrd was to laid back and James Brown took advantage of his kindness, Bobby should have grabbed James by his collar a few times, since James cowardly whooped up on women, history would have been rewritten about thier relationship.
ANOTHER fact that this video DIDN’T point out…was that, although THE FLAMES first BEGAN as a Vocal/Instrumental group, that group BROKE UP after just THREE SESSIONS. After that , ALL FUTURE VERSIONS of THE FAMOUS FLAMES were VOCAL GROUPS ONLY…with NO instrumental members, as Brown then hired the JC DAVIS BAND to back him and the now all-vocal FAMOUS FLAMES from then on. See “The FAMOUS FLAMES” in Wikipedia.
He knew he could be a good performer but recognized JB,s talent and knew JB could take them to the next level and beyond. That is why JB became the lead and star of the group. It's a shame that Bobby was not rightfully compensated for his part in the group as well as the others.
Not saying James Brown wasn't incredible but he appeared to have taken not given credit or taken care of Bobby Byrd and the Flames; are they all at least in the R&R HOF by name?
Hi there, I’m the granddaughter of Bobby Byrd and want to thank you for keeping his legacy, our family’s legacy, alive 🫶🏾

Mr. Bobby Byrd the "unsung" hero the forgotten Famous Flame.
Bobby Byrd deserves equal credit along with JB for bringing us the FUNK! There would be no FUNK without BOBBY BYRD! Rest well, MR. BYRD! ❤
Bobby Byrd all time favorite
I love this and let me just add one correction:
Many people believe that James Brown would never have had the same level of success without Bobby Byrd.
"If You Don't Work, You Can't Eat" is my favorite song by Bobby Byrd. My brothers played this and actually this is what life is kinda about
Brother, thank you... class, character, good soul and definitely a good heart you have for giving Mr. Bird, his recognition... he will never be forgotten by me and mine.
"I know you got soul" by Bobby Byrd is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Yes indeed I dearly love me some Bobby Byrd. ❤❤❤❤

Mr Byrd’s voice is phenomenal! Thank you for sharing this video! ❤

The LEGENDARY Mr Bobby Byrd ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good documentation on the late great Bobby Byrd.
Byrd was the hype man but not just that 🫡
You fotgot to mention the fact that Bobby and the FAMOUS FLAMES were inducted into the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2012, and The RHYTHM & BLUES HALL of FAME in 2020.
Mr Bobby Byrd what's a great man. James Brown was truly blessed to have Mr.Brown as a friend. 😢😢😅😅 R.I.P.
WHAT WE WANT, ❤SOUL POWER, WHAT WE NEED, ❤SOUL POWER 😁😁❤😁😁
James Brown was a low down dude I read about Bobby Byrd , Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and the JB that he didn't pay them
He was also very abusive
le plus grand duo de l'histoire de la soul musique
I like Bobby birds I can't Get enough 👍🏾
Thank you so much for spotlighting a much unheralded talent in soul and funk music. Favorite Byrd song-“Hot Pants-I’m Coming” (1970).
Not surprised so many entertainers have been ripped off by their bosses 🚬

Bobby was The Man. “I Know You Got Soul.”

Thank you for your support!

BadAzz Bobby Byrd
James treated bobby FOUL
Today, James Brown is known as “The Godfather of Soul.”
But, in the Fifties and Sixties, NOBODY called him by that nickname.
NOBODY!! That nickname was a ‘70’s-80’s thing.
Back in the FIFTIES and SIXTIES, James was known as
“ MISTER DYNAMITE!!”

Dope and thanks for sharing this knowledge I never knew this
Great tribute

Thank you for sharing this comment! Love it!
I'm about to watch it again...🥳
Brown didn't respect Byrd... He treated him like trash.. Byrd took a lot of crap
No way in hell I’d let James Brown take over my group. Should have put him under contract
Great job!!!
He also wrote Take Your Time Do It Right for SOS BAND
Who wrote that song Bobby ?
Love them both ❤❤❤ thank you 🙏
Someone said Bobby Byrd probably saved James life!
Sam Cooke is the original soul man
Bobby Byrd was to laid back and James Brown took advantage of his kindness, Bobby should have grabbed James by his collar a few times, since James cowardly whooped up on women, history would have been rewritten about thier relationship.

Great video
My question for Mr. Byrd is: if Mr. Brown was that bad, how come he couldn’t leave very early on, and forge his own career??
He knew he could be a good performer but recognized JB,s talent and knew JB could take them to the next level and beyond. That is why JB became the lead and star of the group. It's a shame that Bobby was not rightfully compensated for his part in the group as well as the others.
Mr. Byrd was done so wrong by James Brown!!
Nice! But the comment about them being "being a match made in heaven" may be a matter of opinion, huh?
Salute 🫡
Not saying James Brown wasn't incredible but he appeared to have taken not given credit or taken care of Bobby Byrd and the Flames; are they all at least in the R&R HOF by name?
Byrd and Brown = Pippen and Jordan?
James Brown was selfish. He didn’t pay him right
We can buy the DVD from Barnes and noble. I have been a dvd collector for a long time. Find something else to do
No Bobby Byrd no James brown it that simple
HEY MY GOOD BROTHER... YOU FORGOT THE PRINCE OF SOUL... MR MARVIN GAYE!!! JUST ASK THE LADY'S...😊😊😊
