    I once waited at a red light in Queens around 4 am when a white Rolls Royce pulled up next to me. James Brown was sitting in the back seat drinking cocktails with two incredible looking women. Man, he sure looked happy.

    I've seen hundreds of concerts, but still to this day the best, most energetic, entertaining show by far was Mr Brown in Detroit in 1980. Nobody else comes close. A 2 & 1/2 hour set, a 10 minute break then he comes back onstage in a fresh white satin suit for a 45 minute encore. Incredible!

    I think James Brown was really affected more by the death of his son Teddy in a car accident than he ever let on. My opinion is that is what turned him to using drugs. This was briefly touched on in the "Get on up" movie. Like many men of his generation, I think he tended to bury his emotions, often through self medicating. Still the 🐐

    • @timmy841212

      I don’t care what the reason is . There is no reason he should’ve been putting his hands on no woman. You not going to use the excuse that your son died to abuse that woman. See women back at that time and further back wasn’t encouraged to defend themselves by use of a firearm. I wish that they would have. Him, just like a lot of bitchass men didn’t want to go get help.

    • @ansonjackson6254
      @ansonjackson6254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      @@The1stClassVillain Not sure how you made an assumption that my comment about James Brown mourning the death of his son by self medicating was a defense of violence against women. I do NOT condone violence against women on any level. My point was about "old school" men not knowing how to deal with their emotions and using self destructive behavior to rationalize their feelings. If you want to start a thread about James beating his women, that's fine. That aspect of his personality takes away from his legacy in my opinion. But it has nothing to do with what I originally stated. Stop being triggered so easily.

    • @The1stClassVillain
      @The1stClassVillain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ansonjackson6254 No maybe you need to clarify yourself in the comment you made. I’m not triggered by shit. I stated my opinion. I interpreted your comment based on what I read and it sounded like you was excusing his behavior. My response to that is still the same. I don’t care what he was going through. That’s never a reason to put your hands on a woman. If that took away from his legacy that’s his fault. It was a legacy he created. All he did was give those white people something to talk about. As we are seeing in this video. When black men do dumb shit, white media can’t wait to talk about it.

    A rule of life: Be mindful of who you donate your power to. What I mean is we all have a life force. We all have talent. We all have the ability to offer something to this world. If you give your power into someone who is insecure, they'll often try to make you think you don't have anything to give that they didn't give you. They'll control you with abuse, make you think you're nothing without them and they'll take the best for themselves because they're convinced they've earned that right. James Brown is one of the greatest entertainers ever to live but he didn't get there alone. No one ever does.

      It's no mystery that James struggled terribly during his childhood -- hunger, soul-crushing poverty -- and as close as he was with his father in his later years, his father was also very cruel and abusive to James when he was young. Put simply, he carried a lot of anger around inside, and it came out ugly all too often. Not making excuses for the man, not saying it was okay -- just suggesting that that's where a lot of it came from.

    James should have just smoked some weed instead of pcp,cocaine,and other hard drugs!But them evil music execs always get their artists hooked on drugs to control their mind and money!Them drugs made James agitated,especially coming down off that high!A few of my cousins on that coke and they wanna act a fool!

    My question is this, if working for JB was such hell, why did Bobby Byrd stay with him as long as he did (1956-57, 1959-68, 1970-73, 1980-81). Remember the saying, "Fool me one, shame on you, but fool me twice, shame on me."

    A simpler, less sinister world. Take note especially in the demeanor of the police officers. The Law of our past knew the difference between someone hired by the state to kill, & or die in that process of killing, & someone hired by the state to protect & serve during the process of enforcing the law. Those officers interviewed were approachable, polite & once off duty, seemed like the type o'guys that'd have some great stories over a few brews. Lawmen today have an arrogant, "us against you" type mentality, & feel that they themselves embody a hero soldier, at war with an enemy public, all of which are at odds with today's law enforcers 1 & only true ally- Other police officers. Think about what exactly I've stated here, & the siege mentality between Lawmen of today & then...

    His behavior from about 1980 until the 90s was classic PCP behavior. Erratic, inclined to rage, delusional- these were all a part of JBs life. So ironic that a man who had preached against drugs was hobbled by them.
