  • Christmas Cookies - Butter Cookies - Frosted Cookies - Sugar Cookies. These are the world's best Christmas cookies! They're soft and delicious and the cookie dough will keep in your refrigerator for weeks.
    I've been making these for years and they've become a part of our Christmas. They're good with or without frosting. I use butter cream frosting because it's "taste compatible" and butter cream is a healthier choice than store bought frosting.
    Ingredients:
    4 cups - All purpose flour (Don't use Gold Medal flour, it's too coarse)
    2 teaspoons - Baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon - Salt
    1 1/2 cup - Sugar
    1 1/2 cup - Real butter
    1/2 cup - Heavy cream
    2 - Eggs
    1 to 2 teaspoons - Real vanilla

    I am a WV mountain girl. All of your videos are so comforting and.bring back memories of my mom and granny's kitchen. I've always cooked this way and know almost all of your recipes. It's your humbleness and down to earth ways that also make them special. God bless you at this time and through the new year.

    I remember one specific Christmas time that I made so many sugar cookies with different shapes and different colored icing and sprinkles. Gave them away as presents to the extended family. Total count when I finished, was 178 cookies! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

    I recently watched your oatmeal cookie video and it was amazing! They sound wonderful and it is a recipe I must try. I was concerned about the comment on negativity. You are a strong Christian woman. You can tell by your quoting of scripture, but the best part is, your Christianity comes straight from your heart. Not only can we hear it, but it radiates from you. God bless you and ignore the negativity!

    I tried your sugar cookie recipe this year and definitely loved the creamy texture of the cookie dough, my family said they where the best I have ever made, I think the heavy cream and not over working the dough made all the difference, thank you for sharing. This is my first year watching and just want you to know how sorry to hear of your husband’s passing, my prayers are with you and your family. Your videos are amazing, my new go to videos. Thank you and God’s blessings for a wonderful new year.

    I have not baked mine yet. I did make the dough and I’m chilling them now. I usually have ziplock bags butl I am going to bake and decorate them. I did not have 2 teaspoons of vanilla either! I didn’t realize that I was low on the staples of baking. Anyway, I added 1 teaspoon of Pure Vanilla extract and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract. That dough tastes DELICIOUS!!! It does not taste like almond extract. It tastes like vanilla and butter cookies. It is YUMMO! Well, Thank You, Miss Brenda for this AWESOME RECIPE!!! I am adding some homemade candies and about 4-6 of these for a cookie and candy tray for gifts. I know they will be LOVED BY MY FAMILY.
    Merry Christmas and GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL OF YOUR LOVED ONES. 😊👍🏼💕❤️✝️🙏🏽🎄🧸🎁🌲⛄️❄️💕👋🏼

    Hi Becky. I think the secret to a really good sugar cookie is the Butter. Real good butter. I never tried heavy cream in mine. I love the rustic look of your cookies. I bet these were delicious with some cold milk. My favorite Christmas cookie. Thank You, Becky so much for this classic Christmas cookie. Don't forget to leave some for Santa Claus!! Merry Christmas Becky. :)

      +Lila Arce The quality of ingredients is crucial in everything you cook, especially in baking. I have made this recipe for at least 25 years and it always comes out great. This year I used Gold Metal flour that I got on sale in a batch and they were flat. The flour is too coarse. So lesson learned. I will never bake with it again.
      They are really simple and delicious. I use the bags to decorate them because not everyone has frosting tips, but everybody has a sandwich bag. When my kids were little there were times when I barely had enough money for a bag and I know I'm not the only one. Also, the bags are really easy to use and you can give all of the kids a bag with a different color and they can share with each other while they are decorating their cookies. It really makes decorating cookies fun and you have some wonderful memories to go with your cookies. I watched a Christmas Cookie video that warned not to let the kids get the frosting on anything... I have a pile of stained tablecloths and regularly have to bleach my countertops, but stains are part of life, they are memories :)
      Alex is home so I'm sure she will leave plenty of over frosted cookies for Santa again :) Merry Christmas!!!!

    Merry Christmas to you and your family.
    Thank you for this recipe and demonstration of cutting them out and decorating them. I have a lg. collection of cookie cutters since I inherited my mother's recently and wanted to put them to good use. I'm not sure why I was so intimidated by the process. You make it look so easy. I'm ready to give it a try now. 🥰
    May God Bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand.

    I was my mom's kitchen helper, youngest of six. Exciting times making these in the earlier 60s. (One Friday evening, Fall of kindergarten, my dad took my brothers to see The Alamo. But I had to stay home - even though Richard Boone was a favorite of mine ... So my mom said we'll make chocolate chip cookies - three half-sheet pans worth, hot and melty, with cold milk - I remember that Friday evening, being all happy when they got home.

    I've just finally bought a stand mixer after many years of mixing cookies by hand, and this will be the butter cookie recipe that I use. My Brother-in-law is an absolute Christmas butter cookie freak and eats every one I've ever made when he's here PDQ and always wants more--lol

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen
      @TheHillbillyKitchen  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Aunt Barbara I had a stand mixer when I was first married and it got broke or lost in a move and I was without one for years. Last year Samantha got me that one for Christmas. I had forgotten how great they are :) They really make life easier. I think Bret would live off these cookies, if I would let him. Everybody loves them and they eat them as fast as I can make them. When the kids were little we always gave a lot of them away but I would have to make three times as many I was giving away because they ate so many :)) I hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do.

    • @auntbarbara5696
      @auntbarbara5696 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I bet we will, and I'm seriously thinking of making the dough today, considering how long it will last in the fridge! Then the only problem will be trying to control ourselves enough not to make entire meals, like supper, out of them!

      @TheHillbillyKitchen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Aunt Barbara With my kids I usually didn't bake them until after dinner, but I did let them have some for breakfast on Christmas morning. I figured they had a little less sugar than their stocking candy :)

    @hillbillykitchen Ms. Becky, Do I have to use all purpose flour?? All I ever cook with is self-rising and I usually sift it. Is that alright to use and does sifting help with the flakiness for biscuits or even your cookies? I've never made homemade cookies before just biscuits and cobbler's. Thank you have a blessed night. • @TheHillbillyKitchen

      Did you put it in the refrigerator? Usually, I only need a little flour on the surface I am rolling them out on if the have been in the fridge for a few hours. Even after the dough rests in the fridge you will still need to coat everything with flour. Your wax paper or counter, rolling pin and cookie cutters. The dough is soft and a little sticky, but coating everything with flour makes it easy to work with. If you kneed so much flour into the dough that it is not sticky the cookies will be hard and dry. I hope this helps. Everybody who eats these loves them. If you still have some of your dough. Give it another try on a well floured surface. Dust any excess flour off you cookies before you bake them. I hope this helps. 😊 Merry Christmas!

    I used to have a white kitchen aid mixer but in 2007 after my daddy passed I moved out of my friends house so she could move in I went back to her house and said that I'd left my mixer on kitchen counter and she said that I couldn't come in to get it nor could I get my vcr either. Some friend she was, huh? Oh well I guess she needed more than us. So since then my husband and I mix stuff by hand and we are no spring chickens and are arthritic. LOL
