Klara Samuels was my physics teacher in high school and she was an amazing character. I wish I had been better at the subject at the time.

This is one of my favorite interviews. I love how she speaks. I love how open and honest she is. I love hearing how her perspective shifted. What a lovely soul.

That brought a smile to my face when she was talking about prank phone calls before the Holocaust. We used to make them with our friends, like asking, “Do you have Prince Albert in a can? If so, please let him out!” or the old standard, “iI your refrigerator running? If so, please catch it!”
Thank you for sharing with us your life story, we must never forget those who didn't survive.

I totally agree .. she is so smart and lovely.. I wish more gentiles would listen to these testimonies .. As a gentile I have learned so much about mankind through these testimonies .. my heart aches for all the Jewish people of the past and I worry for their future..

6 years later but I definitely agree. I have always had an interest in the holocaust and a lot of that is psychological interest on how people were able to survive and help each other even at their worst momente. I can say that listening to these testimonials has undoubtedly made me a better person, more compassionate and has given me insight into so many different areas of life. I wish EVERYONE had to watch at least one of these in their life and truly think it would make the world a better place.

I enjoyed listening to this testimony more so, because the audibility of this video is super good and Klara has spoken very clearly.
Klara must be 94 now.
I wish her many healthy, happy years ahead.
Klara unfortunately passed away at age 84. These videos that are posted are quite older. But wow what a wonderful lady! I feel lucky to have gotten to hear her story. I hope she is resting in peace now whatever the afterlife might be 🤍

This interviewer is one of the most annoying I've heard of these testimonies.
She sounds utterly annoyed to be in the presence of this strong survivor. Klara was taking it as well as she could. I don't mind the interviewer inturupting occasionally for questions but she sounds pissed off every time she talks 🙄 some or these interviewers irritate me so bad. These people are telling you the most horrific and worst parts of their life. Least they could have done was shown basic kindness.
What a great lady! Her memory is a gift to us all.
An intelligent women, fascinating story
A fascinating story. Her summary towards the end 2:20:00 onwards, was extremely insightful.
I've watched about 50 of these interviews (and counting), and I'm encouraged and glad to see through it all, they've kept (or gained) their sense of humor.
I love her point about having power over life or death making people (nazis) capricious. Makes total sense.
Its hard to imagine anyone in those camps feeling as though they had a privileged existence during that time of extraordinary suffering. She's a remarkable compassionate survivor.
It is so hard to imagine for sure. The way the human mind adapts is simply incredible.

he probably should have been a painter from the start what an amazing portrait what an amazing woman with an amazing life and an amazing family God bless her and if you think she is done are you often wonder after listening to these testimonies you know if if they're still alive which would make them extremely ol it'll be nice if they can sort of put in the in the captions so whatever you call it the naming of the video somewhere you know what they have done since then if they're still alive and if not when they passed away but again wow what an amazing woman and life God bless her

I wish I had known you .. you are a wonderful speaker..it is so strange how ignorant people today can take charge of a country and the country be democratic.. so I can see how this could happen and I am so sorry you and your family and all the Jewish people had to go through these horrors ! My heart breaks every time I listen to another survivor and though I’m not Jewish I think all children must listen as it has happened again on a smaller scale in Africa and Bosnia ..I am a great supporter of the State of Israel! God bless and keep his chosen ones!!

@@jmckendrick165it's highly unlikely people are out here just supporting war 🙄 for instance, you can like the German people and culture and still hate what they did especially during WW2. Secondly, not every single person in Israel has anything to do with the war. Supporting a region doesn't mean people support every single thing about it. I'm American and there's plenty about America that I hate and plenty that I love. What is the point of your comment? Did you even watch the testimony? Why don't I see a comment on Klaras extraordinary testimony rather than this?
Lovely woman
I've watched many now (since Covid especially I try to do 1 or part of 1 every night) and a common theme to survival that many identify is simply "luck" along with one's "wit" or quick intelligence (1:05:30) .... Also noticed that it always helped to have some means or economic power.
Finally, of course, esp with stories going into the camps later in the war, it helps to be not too young and not too old (both to survive hunger/health challenges or, in the camps, the "selection" process right from the start). We are seeing the stories of the "lucky" ones, the survivors.
I know... It really makes me think. Luck was a huge part and it is so unfortunate for all the lives lost but I am still very grateful for those who survived to tell their story. I am now 28 years old and a female and since I was maybe 14 I have been contemplating if I could have survived it and I don't think I could. I think I would have curled up and gave up and yet I have a decent amount of strength so the strength of those who survived never ceases to amaze me.
My heart is in my mouth as her father went to see the Gestapo to be transported to the Warsaw Ghetto! And then in the end her father sent them into danger again from their safe hiding place by trusting the Germans again! You can't make this up. And they survived, in spite of this. What a story.

I’ve known Al for 30 years and always loved his talent! He’s played Times Square, Central Park etc. I was always amazed and never knew his rich music history. I hope he posts the old videos so we can listen again!

Are you for real ! I have been listening to dozens of those testimonies and this interviewer is clearly the worse I have heard. Always cutting this lovely woman. Talking like if she was totally done with the interview and pressing the survivor to go to the point.
She mentioned Slonim . That’s where my paternal grandfather’s family was from. I wonder if she met my relatives.

I love the way she describes Poland and she keep coming back there. That is telling that whatever happened she loves country of her birth. That is what all Jewish born in Poland should do
I think perhaps if you were from a small village and were rounded up and killed by your neighbors that you might not have such fond memories of Poland and probably would want to forget most of it. I always hate it when somebody says SHOULD. I SAY TO EACH OWN.
Klara gave such a clear picture of facts surrounding her youth and young adult hood. What a joy she is. Her clarity, her ability, even as a young woman, to be able to evaluate people and happenings with such insight. This is one of my favourite interviews!

How utterly disrespectful to allege such a crime, these people were really exposed to experience the atrocities against human beings they should tell their stories as best of their recollection to have the world learn the lesson of what happens when hatred , political propaganda is used to kill millions of people who were innocent they're the victims of a deranged mans idea to produce the master race and eliminate those considered less than acceptable humans
