I first watched this video two months ago and cried. I am watching it again for the n-time and I am still crying. It is like angels singing about love here in below. Kuddos and may these singers sing forever and ever here on Earth thanks to TH-cam. #admiration
Plutarch testifies that thus in 401 BC. e. The Persian warrior Mithridates was executed for killing Cyrus the Younger on the battlefield, but the Persian king Artaxerxes II decided to attribute the murder of Cyrus to himself and remove the witnesses. The unfortunate man died only 17 days later[1][2].
This is an aria of exceptional beauty in an opera packed with magnificent arias. Outstandingly sung by Cencic, with great warmth. The two characters are both broken hearted at this point, and this is superbly conveyed by the silent Sabadus.
"In 1730, when Artaserse, Leonardo Vinci's last opera (1690-1730, nothing to do with the painter), on a Metastasis booklet, was premiered in Rome, women were prohibited from performing ... by virtue of a papal ordinance which was not to be denied in 1798. All the roles were thus devolved to male singers, in particular these famous castrati who shared the prominent male characters ... and female figures. "I wanted to recreate one of these Roman operas" 100% men ", explains Max Emanuel Cencic, initiator of the project. It is possible today, thanks to the excellent countertenors who can assume the virtuosity required by this formidable score. Furthermore, Artaserse’s very effective political and sentimental intrigue, with its plots, its betrayals, but also its aspiration to virtue and forgiveness, goes very well in our time. Between ancient Persia and our 21st century, there are many similarities… ”
I have seen criticism of Maestro Cencic's performance in this production. Just in case anyone wants to, just remember he was ill with influenza, but still turned out a stellar performance.

I loved the idea of men playing women, as it was done in the 18th century Rome, for me the most historically accurate is always the best... But... Well, sorry, the actual result is... questionable, if not ridiculous. Cencic looks too manly in any field to be credible here. That really looks like a joke, you know, the quarterback in drag for Halloween.
18th Century singers didn't have 21st Century technology (mores the pity) shoved in uncomfortable and exquisite close up. Re-imagine the performers candlelit and incandescent with their voices soaring and majestic, or achingly beautiful, as it is here, above the stage...
@@darthdiddums845 Well, actually that's true, you're right. The problem is the close-ups, it was not planned like that at the time. From a distance, on stage, the illusion had to work.

Very True
Majestuoso, sobrenatural, bella voz, interpretación y puesta en escena. Absolutamente eterno 😍😍😍😍
Senza tema di smentita :delicata e semplice interpretazione. Assolutamente meravigliosa!!!
Was für eine unaussprechlich schöne Stimme !

Such a voice, knowledge of singing & artistry. What a wonder.

Maybe try thinking outside of the "cisgender" box and you might understand it one day.
Better to stick to country and western, I'd say..
