I am curious, do you fast all month long? ATF? Does it mess with hormones of you do this during the hormone feasting phase?
@@danieljonesjr508not sure if you are specifically asking me, or the post, but I do not fast all month long. I write out dr Mindy’s schedule according to my cycling dates. When I am fasting, I have (at least) one 36 hour fast,and three 24 hour fasts. I do not struggle with these fasts at all. I also enjoy the time I am not required to fast. I’m also not an emotional eater, or a snacker. Just trying to get on the right track as I’m turn 50 in two weeks. ❤

Love your videos! Truly eye-opening!!! Could you please make a video about the effects of fasting on lipedema!? So many women suffer from this silent disease without even knowing that they have it. They think they are fat and out of shape no matter how disciplined they are. Doctors tell you that the fat is incapsulated with lipedema and liposuction is the only solution! This video made total sense finally . Im 48 years old turning 49 in August. Im trying to loose 15 lbs im pre-diabetic, myn86 year old dad has dementia, my mom passed from diabetes at age 48! I have begun intermittent fasting again and am trying tioreduce carbs and increase my protein. I have ur book and will be buying your new book hoping it helps. I hate exercise but now i find walking better especially outside. ❤thank you so much for explaining everything.

Intermittent fasting works. Walking 3-4 miles a day works. And monitor how much you eat for a few weeks until you can gauge how much you are eating. I lost 45 pounds by walking and simply eating clean and not too much....and I am a lot older than you: It can be done. You will love it when you can fit into anything and look great.

I'm 44, obese, hashimotos, in very early signs perimenopause. 3 weeks keto, 1 week ketovore complete so far. Just figured out I wasnt eating enough. Started losing once I increased protein, and adjusted macros. Thanks for your help in it.

As a vegetarian, protein intake has always been an issue, especially when it comes to losing the perimenopausal weight gain.
I was a vegetarian for years and didn’t notice weight gain but bone loss and anemia and osteopenia in my late 30s early 40s . That is why I eat hard boiled eggs, egg whites, and fish.
Yeah vegetarian diet did not work for me. I felt so much better as soon as I began eating eggs. Then I realized I was devouring eggs because I needed nutrients so badly that I had to introduce meat as well and felt so much better. I know I don’t need eating well for my aging body to be any more difficult then it already is to pay for and get quality nutrients in the abundance we need with such depleted soil these days. Beef is truly needed. I became even more encouraged when I began to listen to the carnivore testimonials. Those really opened my eyes.
This video and your knowledge is a GAME CHANGER …Thanks! Wish I found you sooner (almost 60). I have been fasting for just over two weeks. Sometimes it is longer than 15 hours and sometimes not. I’m conscious of when I last eat not so much what I’m eating. Not craving anything anymore 😮 I break my fast with the avocado, hemp and sauerkraut (soon Kimchi). I will try the 4, 2, 1 method. There is power in not eating or thinking about what to cook or buy. Maybe more of a woman’s plight. Such a revelation 🎉 and a new found freedom. Great to see so much success with the other commenters. Yes my weight is down just not sure how much. That is not the main reason for doing this, although needed. Definitely upping my protein game😊 Great work Dr!

Amazing, I tried 36/12 last week and found myself binging on the eating day and finding it hard to recommence the fast of 36 hrs. Do you have any tips does the feeling of eating too much on the 12 hrs go away?
@antoinettefrancis5036 when you binge eat, do it with protein and add good fats like avocado it helps you feel fuller. Drink lots of water before you eat too. I also have apple cider vinegar to help with good gut bacteria. That usually helps make fasting better for me and changes my taste buds so I crave healthier foods. Best of luck!

🤯mind blown! Thank you! I'm 48 and this really resonated with me. I had my last baby at 43 and after he was born I could tell that I was in perimenopause. I'm still on birth control and the hot flashes and night sweats have stabilized but over the last couple of years I have been wondering if I had ADHD. Some days I feel crazy. I am disconnected from my husband and my kids so I have wondered if I'm depressed. I'm constantly wanting sugar probably to stimulate dopamine. And more recently I can't remember what someone's name is like an actor that I really like or a person who I haven't seen in awhile. Thank you! I'm so glad I'm not crazy and that I can work on these things.❤

Iodine deficiency is normal after pregnancy, according to what I have read, so it may not be perimenopause at all. Please look inte Dr Lara Briden and even Dr Dan Brownstein’s information on this.
Iodine helped me a lot a few years ago after I gave birth to my daughter at 42.

OMG, I have all these symptoms now, and I just turned 35! In fact, I've had these symptoms since my mid-20s, if not earlier. Now I realize there is nothing wrong with me; it's just that I've lost part of my hormones, and it has been really, really difficult for me. Every two weeks before my period, I experience severe pain throughout my whole body, depression, extreme suicidal thoughts, insomnia, and I can barely move out of bed. There's even more that I struggle with, and I'm not sure if I can fix it.
I went to my doctor a few days ago, and she told me that this is normal to feel. She gave me two options: either I take an injection so I won't get my period again-which would mean I wouldn't experience these ups and downs-or I could take a pill to suppress these phases. That didn't feel right at all, and I refused. I immediately felt my soul rejecting her options. It felt like the options presented to me were part of an oppressive regime toward my body, soul, and mind.
I am now reading Fast Like a Girl and starting to fast like a girl. Thank you so much for all the information you are providing us!

All this is amazingly true n on point! Thank you so much for clarifying n teaching us all these great realities of life n body. I'm Imelda, a 57, single, hispanic,mother of 5. I have struggled all my life with diverse issues to this day. I have felt often disadvantaged, n my life has never been average. Besides much instability in many ways like health,human relations, housing etc, I'm feeling totally disconnected, hardly see anybody meaningful etc. My system/ mind is getting worse by the minute, with weight gain,memory lost, no concentration etc. I'm going to follow closely all your teachings n see how alse I can improve n transform my system n life.

Thank you Dr. Mindy! I’m so happy I stumbled across you on TH-cam. I’ve listened to tons of your videos. I bought both your books on audible and then got hardcopies so I could reference them easier. I was 210 pounds 63 years old and very insulin resistant. I’ve done the yo-yo dieting and Had the motivation to lose the weight, but didn’t have the combination of what I needed to get that done. I gradually worked up my fasting to the point where I could do the 3,3,1 back to back until the sca finally moved. Thank goodness! I am currently doing 311 and then take two days of no fasting, I still eat clean, but I eat a lot more carbs than I normally would during eating windows. My blood sugar, blood pressure are down in normal ranges, and I am now consistently reporting ketones. I am a happy girl and I have now flipped the proverbial switch. Now that my body is feeling better and moving better, the next challenge is starting to exercise.

I am somebody who is not overweight but deals with severe & chronic sinus issues...I am constantly trying to see what I can do that might bring histamine down and support my immune system especially having been stuck on cycles of prednisone for over 4 years now. I'm 71 y/o. I decided to do intermittent fasting, NOT necessarily to lose weight, but to mitigate insulin resistance and promote longevity(!) Turns out I lost perhaps TOO MUCH weight (I'm 5'8" and now weigh 150 lbs.). If I can add dense (muscle) mass above the waist, I'll be O.K. I AM eating more protein, and doing SOME hiit on my upper body. At least I feel better being a bit underweight than overweight; I just want to make sure I'm on the right track(!) Keep up your good work, Dr. Mindy.

150 lbs at 5'8" is not underweight at all.
@@linnie14I came here to say this! You’re right. The lowest a 5’8” should be is like around 125 lbs or something like that.
Don't worry you are not underweight. But building muscle is important as you do not want to lose muscle as you get older. I do a lot of weight training and eat protein as I don't want to lose weight and muscle is heavier than fat. I am 5.9 and weigh 132 and am just right with good muscle ratio.

It's not a one size fits all, so what works for one may not for another. Variation is key.. too much of the same thing and we get stuck. I encourage you to put the scale away, ease the cortisol of focusing on that number that does not indicate health and continue to try several different variations, you will find what works best for you! It may require a deeper dive, looking at toxic load, stress, etc.

My mom is 76, she had a total hysterectomy in her 40's. She is just now borderline diabetic but doesn't restrict eating anything. She is normal weight and height. How are her hormones being created? She's pretty much always in a good happy mood. I just don't get it. I try to watch everything I eat but I've had psoriasis, hypothyroidism, and now suffering from what I believe to be psoriatic arthritis.
The good news about soy was surprising. I've been avoiding soy like the plague.

Dr Pelz, I’m a breast cancer survivor. The cancer Dr recommended to limited red meat because it will feet the cancer cells. I’m confused of what I should do, I had been in remission for 8 years. I will like to loose 20 lbs, Because the cancer history, my doctor didn’t recommended any kind of hormones, and I’m 58 years old. Thanks for your recommendations, I enjoy your videos.

You don;t have to eat red meat if you are concerned. Get your protein from Salmon, Sardines, Chicken , lentils, beans etc.

As of this morning, I have lost 126 pounds, and have approximately 34 to go. Currently at 20 hours on this fast. Pretty much, the only fat stores I have left are in my belly. I always knew that it would be the last to go. Thank you Dr. Mindy and the many others that I trust and follow. 🩵💜🩵

How do we fast and get our ideal body weight in protein in each day?
Hello, I have a question! I am 57 and I take 5 mg of estradiol and 100 mg of progesterone per day and I haven’t had a period in 5 years. ( I have your new book and I’ve watched many videos. I’m pretty new to your channel and so glad I found it!) My question is this: do I need to stop fasting a week during my cycle or can I just keep going? I really don’t even know what my cycle would look like. I am doing the 16:8 fasting and sometimes 17-18 hours then back to 16:8.
I am 66, complete hysterectomy about 20 years ago. Please direct me as to what the best fasting schedule would be for me. Thank you
You can do the 30 Day Reset as outlined in Dr Mindy's book, Fast like a Girl, using the 'New Moon' as your Day 1 (use search engine to find the day of new moon) or you can do a weekly variation like the 5-1-1 or the 4-2-1 Protocol.
The 5-1-1 is 5 Days of various fasting lengths, 1 Day of 24 hours fasting and 1 Day of NO fasting. In the 4-2-1 it is 4 Days of various fasting lengths, 2 Days of long fasts and 1 Day of 24 hour fasting.

Hi Dr. Mindy! I read Fast Like a Girl and was predominantly keto over the last 1.5 years. My estrogen, progesterone and testosterone tanked due to a stressful year. I’m a 45 year old female, still cycling, and when I started eating more healthy carbs during ovulation and the week before my cycle, I now started craving more sugar/healthy carbs and fatty dairy. I packed on 15 pounds mostly in butt,hips,thighs but now around waist too. I went from 119 in February to 135 in July. I am on hrt because I messed up my hormones about 2 years ago from work/breakup stress. I’m assuming my issue is estrogen dominance due to low progesterone, but how do I eat to build my progesterone without throwing me out of balance with my cravings. I wear a cgm for optimal health, but I must not be metabolically flexible enough to switch back and forth with eating healthy carbs. I also craved fatty dairy which may be a cause. I have since gotten off dairy, but now struggle with eating keto once I add in a sweet potato, beans, etc. I also feel hungry all the time, so my leptin seems to be wonky. A recent blood test said my leptin was 2.5, low. Any tips or videos you suggest to help with this metabolic switching? I really struggle to fast the first week of my cycle after a week of eating healthy carbs. I did great on straight keto, except it wasn’t helping my hormones. Help! 🙏🏼 This single gal needs to be able to fit in her jeans again.

On the 4 day autophagy fast, is it under 20g of protein for first meal only and then increase in next meal? My goal is fat loss and repairing gut microbes. Thank you in advance xx
Hi there, if your goal is Autophagy benefits, then keep protein under 20grams per day. Otherwise, if you go above 20 grams of protein, then it will stimulate mTor and kick you out of Autophagy. 💙Dr. Mindy's Team
I’ve been on plateau for 3 months! I’ve done IF, cycling in and out, and had lost 34 in 13 months. I’m way beyond menopause and have 19 lbs to go. Occasional 24 hr once in 6 months 36 + hrs. Alternate 16,18, 15, 17 over and over. Exercise moderate. Hormones fine per naturopath.

I am a 65 year old woman. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting since April and have been losing steadily. I hit a plateau a few weeks ago. I read Mindy’s book and threw in a 36 hour fast as she suggested…Boom!! It worked!!! It definitely has jump started my weight loss again. 😊

Are there any recommendations on how to break the fast on the 2 days of intermittent fasting for 13-hours?
Also, when Dr. Pelz talks about autophagy, she mentioned that we need to break the fast with fat AND “eat no more than 20 grams of protein”. Does she mean 20 grams of protein for the whole day? Or just for the meal when we break our fast?

Yes, if the goal is autophagy you only need to eat 20 grams of protein within your eating window. But, it should not be every day. 🙂

I have hypothyroidism and I’ve been told I can’t eat soy. Which is disappointing because I love soy milk and tofu. 😢
Now I am confused. In other videos you say no more than 20 grams of protein for a woman yet here you are speaking about 30 grams per meal. I would love higher protein.

I understood that during the 4 days of autophagy fasting you should keep it under 20, whereas on the 2 days on light 13 h fasting you should make sure you have 30. Makes sense ?
we r out hunting, +a cricket lands on leaf, +U get lucky, 10 Grams of protein! Bt Ur also exercising to hunt a real meal. Ur in survival mode!! think like r ancestors, +it all becomes common sense. Thank you for this information. This video in particular has me hooked, subscribed to your channel, and I may be purchasing your book. I am post menopause 1 year in, 50 yrs young, and taking HRT along with some great supplements/vitamins. I still feel that disconnect, mild sadness/depression, and sometimes mild anxiety. I noticed that it usually happens when I bingon carbs and processed food. I have recently started taking CBD gummies to help with feeling more relaxed and chill but now I want to try the micro dosing of psilocybin. The store where I buy my CBD gummies has started selling psilocybin gummies which I am assuming must be at a microdose. I will have to go and find out.

It is your choice based on your personal goals. As a cycling woman, we would suggest Fasting like a Girl. It is optional if you want to fit the 4-2-1 into that Reset.

I m 64, I need to lose about 20lbs ( 30lbs would be nice😉) I haven't taken any meds/ painkillers etc in decades, I m healthy, perfect blood tests, I had a hysterectomy at 43. I try to eat healthy, no wheat, no sugars, only milk in tea and coffee. I ve been doing 16:8 for about 5 weeks. Is it okay to keep on doimg this indefinitely? I have no issues since I started..
