They never once question whether or bother to explain just why China is a threat. China has some joint port projects around the world. China buys or leases those ports, and it's used for cargo like Greece Piraeus port. No one in EU or USA would help Greece out. Instead they forced Greece into austerity. China bailed Greece out, and now the port is thriving, along with it's many workers and all the industry supporterd downstream. Same with usa. China bailed USA out 1 trillion in 2008, else usa would have imploded even harder. They still owe China like 800 billion, since China sold some off since then, after trump started the trade war I believe.
No one bothers to ask if usa is the threat. Only China. No one bothers to ask if USA is righteous by trying to contain China and keep them technologically and economically weak and poor. USA wants China to stay on 16,000 per capita income or less. Since if China gets 32,000 per capita income, Chinese gdp would be double America's with China having 4.5 times USAs total population. If China was as rich as USA, it would be 4.5 times usas gsp. China is 20% of humanity by itself. Obvious basic facts I know. But it still needs to be said because some people are deluded and think they can go war or contain or kill them. And China won't be alone. The WHOLE west combined with Japan, sk, Australia etc is only 15% or so. Again, China alone is 20%. Look up the Korean war, and now China is 100x stronger while usa is still at the same level but far weaker. No Houthi rebels would be bombing USA in 1950 and getting away with it. USA could easily invade any country in 1950 and only China could resist and had the balls to. Don't forget USA was a nuclear capable country who just nuked Japan 5 years earlier. Yet China still chose to fight them directly in Korea with just poorly armed infantry. Not enough food or clothes, most frozen to death.
Now look how far china has come, and all through peaceful trade.. no wars since 1979 war which lasted one month and was in response to Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia.

China is a good partner for the EU and Arctic Neighbours for development and a new way of life.
The end of the documentary sums it up quite well. The US will remain passive in the development of the Arctic while china and Russia pushes ahead. It’s ironic how in the early centuries, China tried to close its borders to western trade and we see where that got China. It seems the roles have reversed.
What can the US realistically do to combat China? We can't compete on an economic level, and we see how badly the sanctions on Russia backfired against the EU, similar sanctions on China would just spiral the US and its vassals into an economic depression worse than any living person in the west has ever seen before.
We can't combat them militarily, hell we couldn't even take out the taliban and the proxy war in the Ukraine isn't looking good for the west either despite sinking hundreds of billions into it and depleteting much of the EUs weapon stocks, now imagine taking on a nuclear super power like China with a industrial base larger than that of the US during ww2. we can't cut oil like we did to Imperial Japan since they'll just buy it from Russia and the middle east for cheaper than we could ever sell and in quantities we could never produce.
Face facts, we got to play the hand that the boomers dealt and its a lousy one at that. They took us from am economic powerhouse to a global pariah in less than 50 years.

Two thirds of Russia's landmass is in Siberia with a population of 8 million plus resources like Nat Gas, farm land, mining and oil. The Chinese provinces along the border with Russia have a population of 200 million and are already buying up Russian land. As the aging Russian populations of Siberia pass away and any children thy had have already moved away it is pretty obvious what is likely to happen and it has nothing to do with studying in Svaalbad.

Not so mysterious, perhaps, if you observe how the government of China has behaved domestically and in international relations.
Well done documentary, underlining the motto of china's threat. Otherwise, it envisions the world as divided in two blocks: 1.china- russia; 2.western countries led by US. And that in my view is a pessimistic, non-proved way to face the future, showing that the sun rises from east.
About the passive USA, we should have in mind that it isn't anymore a great producer of goods to export, it's a country of consumers instead, in a great way. Except about weapons. And we'll see the weaponizing of Arctic in crescendo, to fight the "threats".
China don't spread wars, others do. China needs peace and prosperity in the rest of the world to better trade, and this is my argument, surged from the observation of the historical facts and the practice in recent era until now.

China's traditional wisdom prefers to a more peaceful and less expensive way to make the country wealthy and healthy.
