Absolutely Genius to xray the visor! I used your measurements, drilled a hole, installed and tightened the 5/8" post screw (with washers).... it worked PERFECTLY! Thank you
This is the most thorough and informative walkthrough for solving a problem that I have ever watched. Absolutely no useless information or filler, and the video contained every single piece of relevant info imaginable. Well done sir, and thank you.
Fantastic solution! Just repaired visor on sons 2011 Honda Accord Coupe (2dr) for less than $1.50 (post screw + washer + a little brut effort)! As someone stated earlier, hardest part was drilling hole for post screw. As a professional engineer, who appreciates root cause, I really enjoyed the visor xray and explanation.
Just did this! worked to perfection! went from 2-2.5 inches of sag to less than half an inch. I have no idea how they figured out using screws could fix this but whoever did that should get a job on the Honda design team. A few tips for anyone who might try this: When you're removing the visor, if you're doing the one on the driver's side, take a couple minutes, go under the hood, and remove the fuse for the horn (I don't know about other Accords but on my LX it was the only 20-amp fuse in that fuse box, so it was easy to locate). This allows you to get behind the visor while touching the steering wheel without blowing your eardrums out. The correct size the hole needs to be is 1/4 inch. Make sure you use a bit designed to drill through metal, it will make your life so much easier. I tried this with a standard bit, and while it did penetrate completely with some effort, it didn't entirely drill out everything, which caused issues. I then got a proper metal-cutting bit and it went through like a knife through butter. Definitely use some kind of masking tape (you can't use too much) over the point you're drilling on so you don't mess up the fabric. Start drilling on the side that doesn't have the mirror on it, there's less in the way on that side.
I was making an Amazon order for both visors for my 2009 Accord for $230 and thought to check you tube to see if there was a repair. This repair works very well and saved me $230. Doesn't look as good as new but perfect for a 10 year old vehicle. These visors have been replaced before and Honda should provide a free repair. Will definitely have a bearing on future purchase from Honda.
I just did exactly as pointed on your video on my wife's 2011 Acura TSX. It worked like a charm. Thanks for the X-ray detail. Very thoughtful. Thank you
Awesome fix... enjoyed your use of x-ray to find the exact location to drill. I was going to cut and re-glue..but this is the best and cleanest way to fix... very nicely done! Thanks!
Without a doubt this is the best explanation of how to fix a Honda Accord sun visor sagging issue. I haven't done it yet but you answered all my questions in your video on how to execute each step of the fix. Thank you for taking the time to help me and many other people who have the same problem. Best wished from Halifax NS Canada 🍁
Also works for 2014 Honda Pilot. One difference when drilling the hole is that instead of 1 inch down, you have to go 1 and 3/8ths inches down. For length 3 and 1/8th inches works fine as shown in the video. Also when drilling the hole use a thinner bit for the pilot hole first taking care not to rip the cloth on the opposite side. Hope this helps someone.
I would like to say a very Super Thanks to your Super Super Genius and Expert technic. It worked perfectly on my wife car with cost less than $2 instead of $150 dealer cost with labor. Followed exactly your Genius measurement, all work out perfectly except the hard part is drilling the hole. Look forward to your future uploaded videos. I hope I can give your more starts on this video instead only one😊!👍👍
You done such a good job of this very informative video. I’ve been meaning to repair my Honda’s visor for about a year and now I know exactly what to do. Thank you! 🙏
Excellent video and instructions! Took no time at all with the drill press. Based on other’s comments, I thought it might be more difficult. I had the same scratches on the screw head, but after installing, I sprayed a little on a Q-Tip to touch it up. Looks great, works great. I appreciate your post!
did the hack, it worked. thanks for the video. I would say though that before anyone does this have wax/oil, drill bits for stainless steel, and a drill press on hand.
This is awesome - and btw, it is still happening past 2012 models, bc my 2014 Honda Accord EX has the same exact issue. Seems like a design flaw that Honda refuses to address with a recall or official redesign. Probably so they can make more money off of new parts and labor at the dealerships...
Tinker Man. Thank you so much. I from México, and It worked for me in my accord 08, i have save 40 dólars in used sun visor, the hard part was to drill the metal, i used a conical 10-32 screw.
@Tinker Man: thank you, this was very useful. The same measurements and procedures worked on my 2015 Accord. It doesn't quite go all the way up just like in the video, but much better than it was.
A quick FYI for anyone doing this: The post screw that is used is meant for 1/4 inch holes according to the listing, and when I did this, the 1/4 seems to fit perfectly.
Worked great on my 2012 passenger visor. The drilling was tougher than I thought. What is Honda using as metal, Titanium??? The washer is essential when tightening the fastener as the fabric twists without it. Thanks!
I believe you had to cut the post and screw shorter. Can you, please, give me the lengths you cut the screw and post and if the screw is #8? Thank you.
How will i know where to drill the hole in mine? I see other comments saying they measured a different location for their model so i assume i can figure that out. Mines a 2013 honda crosstour.
I'm an x-ray tech too and trying this on my Acura RDX. Brought my visor into work with me today. What technique did you use? I was thinking about 60KV @ 4mAs 😅
Always admire doing things on the cheap. This repair made things better, but is not a satisfying fix. Fabric shreds even if U duck tape it. The visor still hangs down 1/8" lower, but is not in the way. All in all I did not have 2 pay Honda or eBay fifty bucks! Thanks.
Hey, I'm redoing the headliner on my 7th gen accord. I had to use a sawzaw to cut the sun visors open, as they were plastic welded shut. Well, I'm at the point where everything can go back together, but I feel I may be missing some components, or some other issue. On the arm of the sun visor, there is a black metal thing that the arm goes into. That black piece doesn't want to fit nicely in the actual sink visor, so I really can't close it. And also, if it does slightly close, the arm does not move. Is there a place where I could see what parts I need and order them? Everyone is saying to just get 2 new visors, but I put a lot of hard work into the ones I did, so I don't want them to go to waste. Thanks in advance.
@@PaulRevere2012 I did, and I actually figured it out! So the arms are Designed in a way to fit each side. You can't mix the sides up. One arm was 4.5", and the other one for the passenger side was 5, 3/16". So that explains why one arm wasn't fitting in the opposite visor lol. But yeah, got them all done, and they look awesome!
@TRUTH I got stuck at the drilling stage. Bought a new cobalt bit but could not get through the steel. Now I may have hardened the steel. About what drill speed did you use? Mine was at 1900 rpm which may have been too fast. Any advice would be appreciated
Was not successful with the nail, but had a friend with a drill press and was able to get the hole drilled. Your repair idea worked, thanks for taking the time to post it.
@@PaulRevere2012 thank you for all the tips. sadly it didnt work for me, and my fabric got twisted anyways. looks like i will be on the lookout for a replacement part. mine still sags. and when i flip it down to block sun or hold a sun visor its really weak and falls a bit (doesnt stay at full open).

In my case, that metal holder just clicked out off the held place, I disassembled the visor with accuracy, it holds on hot joint and removed the holder and clicked it up and then just connect 2 sides with a glue for plastic Now it looks like the new one and work fine, no bolts and holes
Cost of an X-ray for medical purposes: $300 to $1,000. Tinker Man just x-rayed his sunvisor for, presummably, free to repair his car. That being said, good use of technology and skillset.
the fact that this video has 112k views... why is there no recall for this. i have to leave mine down or i hit my head hard on it if i go over a bump, literally has left bruises. honda fix your shit.
