I prefer the look of the Commuter.
I just got the defender case yesterday and I love it these types of case are my favorite very protective and not too bulky

Hey Ricky, I wanted to see have you ever looked into Scooch Cases?
It is a local company from Noblesville Indiana but have similar protection ratings to slim-mid but have the built in tail. That tail acts as a Kick stand for both vertical and horizontal placement along side working as a car mount with the vent.
It is what I am using on my note currently and the grip is way stronger than what I feel on the symmetry but does not have as much bulk as the commuter. Only downside I have to it (can be a big catch to some) is that wireless charging does not work with that case as they use metal backing on some alongside some metal in the tail.
I have never dropped a phone well I have a couple of times but it does fall out of my pocket from time to time while getting out of my car and sometimes in my car between my seats great review thanks for showing your followers the easy way to take the defender apart made my life easier many thanks.
I would go with the commuter case definitely.

I used to use Commuters for a lot of phones, then I started getting DualPros from Incipio. They're that same middle-range of protection but waaayyy sleeker & more comfortable.
Only 3 colors for defender but seems worth the purchase for a high end phone.
Will wireless charging be affected when leaving the case on (without the belt clip)?
also is the alpha glass screen protector worth it? will it affect the precision of the spen with it attached?
I'll be getting the Defender when I get the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The Defender is the case I always get for my phones.
I always go with Defender Case that way I have no worries!
Question. I usually go with a commuter case, but I've never had a phone with the "edge" screen. Do these cases cover up any part of the screen to not give you the full experience of the phone? That's my main concern. Would love your thoughts about the commuter in particular. Thanks in advance!

Imran Ahmad Unless you have a rider on your homeowners, cellphone insurance is a total scam. 7-14 bucks a month, and 200-250 deductible for full replacement sometimes after paying a monthly fee for years! Being without a phone while they decide how much money you owe them, and the actual limitations for filing a claim... Break two phones in a 30 day period and see how good the "insurance" is...
...or you can spend 55 bucks and not have to worry about it.

Wish commuter had a clip like they did for s5. Oh well, I think I might go with defender as I've loved the case and all the otterboxes actually make the pen easy to access which my incipio isn't so easy to access

Symmetry. As a bonus, TMo had a version that was slightly sparkly. This is the case I'll use around the house, where it's carpeted and I'm not as likely to drop it.
I'm a commuter guy, but I have concerns about the sides. will the commuter protect the sides of the screen enough? but Conversely,, are the screen edges accessible enough to activate edge screen functions without making it uncomfortable to dig in between the case and the phone
What color is the defender? Big spur?
I thought the plastic on big spur was tan not white?
If you use the Gear Vr on a regular basis?, I Don't recommend the Defender case, due to the inter plastic case, (breaks easily !).. and difficult to remove!
I have to admit that I am a huge otterbox fan. However, they have lost their minds if they think people are going to pay $60 for the defender with no built in screen protector. I have had to figure out another setup for my beauty Note 8.
Kevin Reese Sr. Try the unicorn beetle sup case. It has a built in screen protector for the note and I feel its built better than otter box and its only twenty bucks on Amazon
Kevin Reese Sr. You can go on ebay and get a generic unbranded version of the otter box for like 15 bucks... Which is what's its worth...
I sell for Verizon and have some experience with this. With note phones, the stylus use is impaired over time with the built in protectors because they are plastic. Not having it built in allows for the use of a tempered glass instead. Better functionality for sure. Also protection. The built in protector works well for scratching but nowhere near as well for impact.

I have the defender one on mine. I believe the reason why they don't have the screen protector piece is because of the slim edge the screen has. I have a tempered glass screen protector on mine. Defender series are usually what I always get.

The best screen protector is the white stone dome glass. unfortunately it isn't compatible with otterbox cases :( it lifts
and the alpha glass is not responsive. they have sent me 3 replacements and each is the same as the other because it doesn't have adhesive on the whole protector only on the edges.

My screen doesn't pick up my touches with my commuter case. It's extremely difficult to text. When I take off the cases I have no issues. Anyone had this issue?
Turn the defender sideways to charge on wireless charger.
Yep samsung pay and wireless charging work for the Defender! However the case makes it taller and does not sit in the right spot on last years fast wireless charger, you have to turn sideways(profile), the new convertible charger has to be flat.
Spigen is also a option(cheaper)
Medium case is the way to go. Rugged case is also good. Slim case waste of time and money.

I prefer the OtterBox Defender Series as I have the black version on mines. this phone retails at $930--$960 why wouldn't you put the most armored type off protection on that ..duh

OtterBox Defender isn't worth it anymore it's still around $50.00 or $30.00 which is ridiculous for a case with no built in screen protector if it had a built in screen protector like it use to it would still be worth it but OtterBox bought LifeProof so I think that's why LifeProof has the built in screen protector's now instead of OtterBox even tho LifeProof is more expensive I'd rather have my screen protected plus LifeProof is water proof OtterBox is not. I got my first ever LifeProof case a month or so ago for my S8 and it's definitely worth the money.
I dropped my note from around a yard drop in a commuter case, I did not see a crack but it wasthere in the morning. By the way, the notes screen is not very strong - beware.
The first one i use because I don't drop my phone or rough on my phone...

I have the defender I usually don't like otter box this is a fantastic protector and I touched it and I was sold kind of sticky rubber feel to it wow I don't use the clip at all.
Defender hands down,sure it makes the device twice its size but it protects like a mofo.

OtterBox cases suck, if you want a great case that's slim and super good when comes to drops. Get a UAG case,there amazing cases and they don't hold on to dirt like the OtterBox does.

I hate clear cases. Slim cases does not make a sense to me. If you want a slim profile just put a skin. Skin makes the phone more beautiful.
Emon Khan The point is that rubber or silicone cases offer shock absorbtion.Dbrand skins do not.They only offer scratch protection.Not much protection for a $1,000 phone.
not a fan of the otterboxes, hate how they cover the ports. goddammit the phone is water resistent there is no reason to cover the ports.
I just bought the clear it looks and feels very unreliable I wouldn't recommend it...
