    I was surprised how easy it was to melt the lead. I have the same camping cooker I thought you would need something more powerful then that. I am a scuba diver and it’s always handy to have spare weight. I don’t wear a weight belt a wear a weight harness (drysuit diving ) I will be definitely trying this out. Thanks for the video 👍🤿

    Simple design but very effective, great work mate!

    The simplest, and probably BEST design I've seen. It's such a PITA to change weights when you dive with different wetsuits or gear. This is excellent!

    Great idea for when you are diving at different depths, where you can quickly add, or take off weights, (keep them in the float) for next to nothing as far as cash is concerned and a little time invested on the weekend. I’ve had lead in my garage for years and the tyre man will always give me old tyre weights so quite easy project really. I’ve made weights for years, but I like this quick fit.

      @@germanspearfishingchannel5359 - Greetings to you. Not sure of the meaning of your question, but I used to make ordinary standard weights with the normal slits, that thread onto the belt using a wooden moulds and odd scrap. They are too fiddly to thread quickly and easily while off the float and your idea was a massive difference in ease and time in adding extra weight if needed, when my diving buddy could add it for me. I used a few standard weights as a base and then had a couple of your weights if my my buddy or I needed to add. Thanks again for the simple but great idea.

    Brilliant idea! I made three using my old 177 and 22 pellets and some fishing weights, melted lead in an old cooking pot then filled 3 empty tins, worked great.

    Great design! I prefer putting in the wax when the lead is already molten and mostly cleaned from dross. Stirring with the way will bring out all the residual stuff from the bottom to the surface.

    • @germanspearfishingchannel5359
      @germanspearfishingchannel5359  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you explain how the wax works?

    • @Flederratte
      @Flederratte 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@germanspearfishingchannel5359 I do not know the reason why it works.
      I assume it is a bit like the flux used for soldering which dissolves the oxide layer on the surface of the liquid metal and therefore enables the droplets of molten metal to stick together. The liquid metal then combines to a big volume and because of surface tension wants to minimize its surface area. Therefore it separates from the debris which is less dense and floats on top of the melt where it can be skimmed off.
      I assume there is also a lubrication mechanism by the wax flowing into the space between crucible and solid junk.
      Maybe the wax also helps to reduce already oxidized lead back to metallic lead.
      Anyway the wax is a extremely useful additive to minimize loss of lead and for cleaning of dirty lead. However it makes the debris very powder like and difficult to skim off the liquid metal surface. Also the powdered lead waste is a greater hazard for contaminating the place with lead or even breathing the dust.
      I recommend melting dirty lead in a high crucible until all the lead is liquid. Then adding a good amount if wax and immediately stir the molten contents also scraping the sides and bottom of the crucible. This brings all the dirt to float on top of the melt. The wax will most certainly catch on fire which is good because it will then not smoke as much. Just be careful with the burning liquid wax and never add water to it!
      After it has finished burning most of the dirt can be removed with a bend spoon which is screwed onto a long handle. Do not worry about removing all the dirt.
      I then recommend to simply pour the lead into ingots which will then solidify and can be separated from the remaining dirt (maybe with a wire brush). For projects then melt the cleaned ingots.
      Always try to avoid breathing lead dust and handling lead oxide! Try to contain every bit of lead waste and dispose of it properly!
